My heart pounding, I opened my eyes with pain, wincing. I felt weak, lying there, and not daring to move as I was too afraid of what would happen if I did.
Suddenly, Louis' face appeared above my head, making me freak out. All I did was scream and push myself away from him. But I fell off the bed and my body violently hit the floor.
"At least, you're awake, now." I heard him whispering to himself. He walked toward me and grabbed my arm to lift me up. We now were face to face and I felt fear growing in me. He was impressive.
"You snore." He suddenly appeared less impressive. I wasn't expecting something like that from him.
"I don't," I snapped back and he didn't reply.
I decided to change subject, "what happened to Zayn? Where is he?" Louis shrugged his shoulders.
"He's with Liam."
"And what about Niall and Harry? What happened to them?"
"You'll find out soon enough." There was no expression on his face as he talked about his old mates.
"Follow me. We're going in another room," he told me and turned around to walk away. But I didn't move.
He noticed it and turned around near the door after a few seconds. "Scarlett," he muttered in a deep tone.
"How can you be so insensitive, Louis? Is your heart made of ice or what?" I asked him that question I had wondered since the beginning.
He just stared at me and shock had just appeared on his face.
"Have you always been like that or is it just a facade to hide your true feeling?" I slowly moved closer to him and he still didn't answer. I carried on in a gentle voice, "doesn't friendship mean something to you? Have you never loved anyone?"
But at the sound of the word love, his eyes sparkled with sadness. For the first time, he seemed to be human. He looked down at the ground, without moving an inch.
I reached his side and tried to catch his eyes. But as his eyes met mine, all the emotions on his face disappeared and he looked as cold as ever.
"Let's go," was all he whispered before grabbing my wrist and pulling out of the room.
We rushed down the stairs and I recognised the familiar narrow corridor as we kept on walking.
"Here we are," Louis whispered, opening the door where I knew I would find the three men -if they still were alive. Anxiety overran me as I stepped in.
I first saw Liam standing with his back at me. He turned around and started to walk away when he saw me.
"You have a few hours ahead of you before Paul arrive here." And he stepped out, closing the door behind him.
"Scarlett! You're still alive!" A familiar voice yelled and I felt arms around me, hugging me tightly.
"Yes, I am," I replied, feeling the curls against my cheeks. I hugged him back for a while, feeling happiness growing in me. I was so happy Harry still was alive.
He pulled himself away and smiled at me. But I couldn't hold back a gasp.
"Harry... what happened to you?" I muttered with shock, looking at his nasty black eyes.
"They thought I had asked you to flee with Niall when you came to talk to me. They didn't want to believe me."
"I'm so sorry, Harry," I whispered, leaning against his chest. I made everything worse for him. I felt him putting his arms around me again.
"That's nothing. At least, you tried something and I thank you for that. I'm sorry for being mad at you."
"Actually, it's all my fault!" Niall's voice exclaimed. I looked behind Harry and saw him sitting on the floor beside Zayn.
I rushed toward him and knelt down by his side. I could see a huge bandage under his T-shirt, which seemed to go from his shoulder to his elbow. Tears started to stream down my face as I looked at him.
"I owe you so much, Niall. I'm sorry I failed," I sobbed and he chuckled gently.
"Stop apologizing, Scarlett. And this wasn't made to happen, actually." I raised and eyebrow when he pointed out at his bandage.
"They knew the room we were in so there was no need for them to use force. They must have asked at the reception. But when they saw the door was locked, one of them shot at it and I was right behind it..." Niall moved a little to sit in a better position but winced with pain.
"Don't move, Niall," Harry told him, coming to sit down as well.
"And how are you Zayn?" I ask the last one. He smiled weakly and shrugged his shoulders.
"I don't have anything. Not like those two..." I nodded, feeling relieved for him.
"What did you do after you left?" Niall asked.
"I went to Sheffield. I spent a few years there and that's the only place that came to my mind at that moment." The three of them nodded and I carried on, "I went at my best friend's. He helped me going back to London but...but..." I didn't have to tell them about Andrew calling Paul.
More and more tears rolled down my cheek at the mere thought of that night.
"But they shot him down once I was away. They...killed...him," I stuttered the last sentence.
Harry put his arm around my shoulder and I cried in his chest.
"We're sorry about that. He didn't deserve to end that way."
I kept on crying but I felt well in Harry's arms. For the first time, I felt kind of safe with him by my side.
"I don't understand... why are they doing this? How come they changed that much?" Zayn said with bitterness in his voice.
"I wish I knew the answer," Niall replied.
I looked at the three young men and saw how hurt they seem. It must be so hard for them as they knew Liam and Louis before.
"What will happen to us?" Niall murmured. Sadly, we all knew the answer to that question...
"Scarlett, how did you get involved in this?" Zayn asked me after a short while.
I wiped my tears away and started to explain them all that had happened and all I knew about their plans.
