Interlude

There's no other person Holly loves more than Eli, even though at first she wants to hate him with every fiber in her being. Her teenage heart still lives inside her, sometimes when you're so in love you need to pause and just feel.

Let Me In by Grouplove

Gimme, gimme that love, I'll be waitin' for ya'
Catch my hand, I'll be fightin' for ya'
Let me in, yeah, let me get closer
Got me runnin' wild like I feel it all over
Catch my hand, I'll be fightin' for ya'

All this time been trippin' and slippin' around
You got me, now I'm swimmin', swimmin' in clouds

Gimme, gimme that love, I'll be waitin' for ya'
Catch my hand, I'll be fightin' for ya'

And I'm findin' out that all I know is right at home
But I'm tellin' the man my plan to never feel alone
Let me in, yeah, let me get closer
Got my hands high like I ride a roller coaster
Cannot be it, cannot be lonely
Lookin' like you're lovin', you're livin' the moment

Got me, now I'm swimmin', swimmin' in clouds

Gimme, gimme that love, I'll be waitin' for ya'
Catch my hand, I'll be fightin' for ya'

Holdin' my breath till there's nothin' left
Hold your breath, now there's nothin' left
Gimme that love, I'll be waitin' for ya'

Holly

I had only spent that night at Sam’s house; she held me as I once again fell apart and told her the story the next day. She offered her guest room to me, but I knew I could never. I kindly declined and assured her I would be fine living back with Victoria.

Victoria was a raging whirlwind throwing blame and her badly folded laundry around.

“How could he? That bastard,” she shouted waving around a hand towel.

“I don’t care anymore, I’m sort of defeated,” I said in a monotone.

“Don’t be that way darling. He was definitely not worth it and just wait till we go back to work tomorrow, he’ll be getting it from me,” she said angrily folding the rest of her laundry.

“No one is stopping you but don’t get us fired,” I said laughing as I followed her upstairs to her room and my very bare one.

“I won’t, but just watch,” she threatened.

“Where would I be without you?” I teased.

“Probably off homeless on a corner,” she joked.

“Probably, well I’m going to call it a night,” I agreed while closing my door.

I took a quick shower and curled up on my bed and turned off the light. It still stung, and I couldn’t help but cry a little more. I didn’t want to be this way; I didn’t want to be weak any longer. I was going to face him tomorrow and look him in the eye and just treat him like I would any other attending, with professionalism. He was not the man who cheated on me, he was not an ex-partner, and he was just another doctor.

The day went by fast, I didn’t see him and for that I was secretly glad. I stuck around taking the night shift as well, to both please my attending and to not go home. I was walking out of the neo-natal room as I was about to go into the locker room and go home. I ran into Eli.

“Hey what’re you doing here? At five in the morning?” I asked balling up the pink scrub coat I was wearing only seconds before.

“I was bringing you coffee actually. I was going to ask you to dinner last night, but Victoria informed me you were working the night shift,” he said handing me a coffee cup.

“Thanks and dinner? What’s the occasion?” I asked after taking a long sip of the rich coffee.

“No reason, just want to catch up,” he said flashing me a crooked smile.

“I’ve been here almost a year and you still want to catch up?” I asked furrowing my brow.

“I don’t know anything about you anymore,” he confessed.

“I think I like it that way,” I said sheepishly.

“Well I definitely don’t. Please just dinner, no strings attached,” he pleaded.

“Okay, just dinner,” I agreed as we stopped in front of the locker room.

“Great. Tonight at 7pm. I’ll pick you up,” he said before swiftly kissing my cheek and walking away.

I rolled my eyes and headed inside to change. As I was changing into my street clothes I couldn’t help but smile at how persistent he was. Maybe it was time to forget the past and start new with him.

“Well don’t you look lovely,” Victoria said from my door.

“I’m going to dinner,” I announced happily as I put on my right earring.

“With whom may I dare ask?” she said dramatically flopping on my bed.

“Eli, it’s nothing serious,” I said standing up and flattening down my black skirt.

“It’s serious if you’re wearing those black see-through tights under your skirt,” she said.

“I want to look classy,” I said looking at my outfit of choice in the mirror.

I had gone with a long sleeved plain burgundy shirt, a black flared circle skirt, black tights, and knee high brown riding boots. I tugged on the skirt until I was satisfied and smiled, and then the door bell rang.

“I’ll get it,” I said grabbing my purse and running downstairs.

“Good luck!” Vic shouted from my room.

“Hi,” I said opening the door.

“Hey...You look lovely,” Eli said kissing my cheek before handing me a small bouquet of sunflowers.

“Thank you. You certainly look dashing,” I teased as he took a small spin.

He was wearing a dark red dress shirt, sleeves rolled up, black trousers that fit him extremely well, and his hair looked like a perfect mess. We bantered a little more before we hopped into his car and he took us to his apartment.

“After you,” he said once we were at his door.

I immediately spotted his dinner table set up with plates and wine glasses. He helped me into my chair and then sat across from me.

“This is a nice thing you have going on,” I joked gesturing towards the table.

“I’ll admit I had help,” he said as a waiter appeared from the door behind him and served us our dinner and a red wine.

“A waiter? An at home waiter? You are unbelievable,” I teased.

“Well it was either that or Hamburger Helper,” he joked.

The rest of the time was spent with light banter which was caused by the wine. After we finished dinner he led me to the balcony.

“How have you been?” he asked bringing out a champagne bottle.

“Pretty good, what about you?” I responded as he poured it into two flutes.

“Never better,” he admitted.

“If I didn’t know better I would think you were trying to get me drunk and sweeten me up with a dinner and dessert,” I joked as he handed me my flute and the waiter brought out a cheesecake and left promptly.

“You never know, I just might be,” he said with a wink.

My heart flopped and the butterflies erupted. I coughed as the bubbles in the champagne rushed to my nose and tickled it. I put a hand over my mouth and I didn’t know whether it was to stop the champagne from spilling from my lips or the butterflies from flying out of my mouth.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

“The bubbles tickled my nose,” I said giggling.

“Okay, that’s enough for you,” he said taking my flute as I pouted.

“I’m fine,” I said.

“I should probably take you home,” he said running his hands through his already perfectly messy hair.

I didn't argue and he led me downstairs and to his car. The car ride was silent and the air had changed, it was tenser than anything.

“Well here we are,” he said as he pulled up in my driveway.

“Thanks, I really needed this,” I said picking at the cheesecake box he’d given me.

“I had a nice time,” he said awkwardly.

“Well good night,” I said before opening the car door and stepping out.

He waved as I walked up the driveway and I sighed as he left. I went inside and changed for bed after putting the cheesecake in bed. I pulled open my nightstand drawer and sifted through the empty Marlboro boxes looking for the new one I purchased a couple days ago. There were only two left. I cursed under my breath and lit one of the two. I closed my eyes and then I found myself downstairs pulling out a half empty vodka bottle. I didn't bother with a glass as I made my way back upstairs. I spent the rest of my night reminiscing about Eli and Eric until my eyes were heavy with smoke and vodka.

(Oh no Eli didn't kiss her good night! ): Well this is really just a sort of filler the good stuff is coming next! The song was for both of them to let each other in btw, and this is the start of Holly's/Sydney's addiction o: so trigger warning. Please don't forget to like, comment, and add this to your favourite lists, and recommend to others! Thank you and have a great day lovelies! - Vic xoxo)
