4. Chapter Four

At precisely 12 PM, I shot out of bed scrambling around for a decent outfit. The first thing I find being a pair of lace tights. I smiled wickedly when I found my red skinny jeans that I cut up at the knees. I quickly pulled the tights and jeans on and stood in my hot pink bra looking for a shirt. I rummaged through my band merch t-shirts and couldn’t decide between Pierce The Veil or Sleeping With Sirens. There was a soft knock on my door followed by, I’m guessing Luke’s morning voice. “Melody? You up yet?” he asked groggily. “Yeah, I’m up.” I replied looking between the two shirts. “Okay, good.” He said opening the door. I was still looking between the shirts. I think he almost had a heart attack seeing me half naked. All he did was stare. “Which one do you think?” I asked holding them up for him to see. I wasn’t the shy girl I used to be. I was proud of my assets. “The.. uhm.. Pierce The Veil one.” He said blushing. I pulled the shirt over my head quickly and slipped my ankle boots on. “Are you going somewhere?” “Yeah, I’m meeting Erick in about 30 minutes.” I said running around my room for my phone and Nirvana bag. “Erick?” he asked following me with his eyes. “Friend from VampireFreaks.” I shrugged grabbing my eyeliner and mascara from the vanity. “Do you need a ride?” he asked. So many questions! “No, I’m okay thanks. We’re meeting in the park just down the road so yeah I’m fine.” I said getting more irritated by the second. Luke just nodded and walked downstairs. I rolled my eyes and checked the time before running downstairs and to the kitchen. They boys were all there seated at the breakfast bar. “Morning Melody.” They chorused. “Yeah.. morning.” I grumbled grabbing two chocolate chip muffins and stuffing them in my bag. “Someone’s on her time.” Ashton stated. “Oh shut up. What would you know about my time?” I spat at him before heading out the door. I sighed as I started the short walk to the park where I would meet Erick again. This was going to take some time getting used to. After I got to the park and to the tree he said we’d meet at, I looked around for him, but to my disappointment, he was nowhere in sight. I sat down and started picking at one of the muffins looking around every few minutes to check if I saw him. I sat for a good two hours, ate both muffins and played on my phone so much it died after an hour. You might be wondering why I didn’t just get up and leave, but he promised he was going to show. I sighed gathering my things and stuffing it back in my bag when I saw Luke coming towards me. He seemed worried. This was strange. I sat with my back against the tree and smiled at him. “Heeeyyyy Lukeyyy.” I smiled. “Hey miss.” He said sitting down next to me. “Why’s your phone off?” “It died about an hour ago. See? Shiny expensive brick.” I said holding it out to him. He just shook his head and smiled. “Why are you here alone? Weren’t you gonna meet Erick?” he asked. “I was supposed to, but he never showed.” I sighed. “Well, what did you and Erick have planned?” “I was gonna get snakebites today.” I pouted biting at my lip. “You can still get them. I’ll take you to the place I got my lip done at.” He said standing up and offering his hand. I looked up at him not really understanding this different boy. I took his hand and he pulled me up. He didn’t let me carry my bag. He wouldn’t hear it when I complained. We walked back to the house, clumsy old me almost falling down a few times. I waited at the door while he fetched his car, but of course I wouldn’t be waiting alone. Michael was standing next to me within 2 minutes. It wasn’t long before Ashton and Calum had joined us as well. They stood around me like they were a group of security guards. I eyed them suspiciously. Michael just gave me a wicked grin and looked away. I sighed and looked at the floor. It was one of those days where I didn’t feel good enough. Like I shouldn’t be on this earth. One of those days where I felt like I couldn’t do anything except sit in my room and stare at my flesh. As much as I hated to admit it, I still missed Harry sometimes. Even though he hurt me a lot. I didn’t know how to stop these thoughts or feelings I had suddenly acquired. I found the paving quite interesting for a while. Luke was taking so long to get the car, but when I looked up it wasn’t the car I had been drooling about earlier, but a black SUV. I frowned and stared at the other boys who were already getting inside. The only seat left was all the way in the back. I didn’t mind. I could be alone with my thoughts for a little while. I got in and sat staring out of the window. The car pulled out of the driveway and we were speeding down the road. I saw people on the sidewalk, but I didn’t really care about what they were doing. They were just unfortunate people who became my focal point. When I looked up, I saw Luke glance at me from the rear view mirror. He looked concerned, but what would I know? My last boyfriend felt like he needed to cheat on me. Why would this person who hasn’t even known me for a week care about me? I sighed and continued my staring game. Eventually we reached an old rundown looking building that was secluded from the city. The place had an eerie vibe to it. It was only 4, but it seemed like it was 6. As I got out of the car, Luke was at my side immediately. “This place looks creepy..” I mumbled looking at the tall trees blocking out the little piece of sun that was left. Luke took my hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. “Don’t worry. Jake is cool.” He smiled and pulled me towards the door. I knew a Jake once. He was pretty good looking. Met him under at the Eye. Oh! He had a motorcycle. I remembered him a lot better now. “Luke! Man, where you been lately?” I heard a familiar voice from the backroom as we entered. “Jake! How’d you know it was me?” Luke said letting go of my hand and walking to the backroom. I heard voices, but I couldn’t hear the rest of the conversation. The other three boys had disappeared a long time ago. God only knows where to. I was left in a blood red painted room with what looked like torture devices everywhere. It was normal. A tattoo and piercing place just had to look like that, otherwise it wouldn’t have been called that. I was looking at different piercings when Luke came back out to me. “M, you don’t have to wait here like a loner, you know..” he said waving me over to the room. “I like being a loner.” I pouted and walked over to him. “WAIT! I know that voice!” I heard Jake yell. I laughed and walked in through the makeshift curtain. “Jake!” I yelled running and jumping him. “Melody!” he yelled back catching me mid jump and giving me a hug. “How’ve you been? Why haven’t you called? Texted? Been to the Eye again?” “Slow down. Too many questions at once.” I giggled and took a breath. “ Okay. Starting from the beginning. I’ve been.. eh. Things have been rough in the past 6 months and I haven’t been myself lately. Hope I covered it all.” “ But look at you! You’re so… thin! It’s unhealthy. But I gotta love the new look.” He winked and took an overall look at me. “Wait, wait, wait. You know Jake? Jake, you know Melody?” Luke asked his head cocked to the side and I swear the cutest confused expression on his face. We faced him and nodded. “Yeah we met a while back.” I smiled. “And ran into each other literally.” Jake said. Luke nodded slowly not completely understanding. “I’ll tell you later, okay?” I insisted and he just nodded again. “Anyway… So Mel, how’s that boyfriend of yours?” Jake asked remembering Harry. I felt the tears build up, but just shook it off. He wasn’t worth my tears anymore. “Uhm.. yeah. Not together anymore. It didn’t last long anyway.” I sighed. “Oh, well then. Now I can try my luck.” He winked elbowing me in the side. “Oh you wish!” I laughed, but blushed slightly. “I do yes.” He smiled. “So, what brings you here?” “Melody wants to get snakebites.” Luke said seeming to come out of his dazed state. Jake’s eyes widened. “You… want to get snakebites?” he asked his jaw practically on the floor. “Yep.” I said smiling. “My fuck..” he gasped. “Let’s get you in a chair then!” I laughed at his excitement and sat in the chair he lead me to. “Scared?” Luke asked standing next to me. "Nope. Not at all." I said smiling as Jake got everything ready. It wasn't long before he was standing infront of me with a needle and some numbing spray. "Ready?" he asked. I nodded and waited for him to stab be and get it done with.
