“You can’t come past the barrier because i won’t let you. My mind is much stronger than yours.” a voice said behind Rae. Not just a voice though, it was the voice. She turned, finally seeing the person who’d been in her head for the past few days. He was tall, taller than Sam, so he must have been around 6 foot. Caramel skin looked out of place with the white background of the snow. He wore a simple black tshirt and jeans that contrasted his ice blue eyes. Whoever this was could be a model, he was gorgeous, but she didn’t focus on any of this. All she saw was his hair, platinum blonde...that faded into blue.
He continued, “This is a kind of wall that was made so only Rae can pass through. I don’t have time for any useless humans to wander in now do I? But of course they couldn’t understand this, so they made an excuse of volcanic activity. Stupid little humans.”
Sam stood up “You say that like you aren’t one of us” the voice incarnate raised his eyebrows as if impressed by Sam’s reasoning powers.
“One of us? Surely you don’t mean to say you think Rae is human as well?”
She started laughing “I’m right here guys, you could include me in the conversation too ya know. What do you mean I’m not human?”
He sighed and rolled his eyes, “Come take a walk with me, I’ll explain some things. Oh, but your little pet can’t come along, sorry” he sneered at Sam. Ugh, boys.
She turned back to her friend, “Okay, I’ll be back in a little while” she said crawling over to him to give him a hug. Loosening his hold on her, he breathed “But before you go...” and leaned towards her. He kissed her. Rae felt....nothing. It was really awkward. She moved back and looked at him. He looked as uncomfortable as she did.
“Well that was...” she struggled for the right word, not wanting to hurt him.
“Weird” he finished for her. She laughed, relieved he didn’t feel anything either. “But seriously Rae, before you go..”
“Oh God Sam, please don’t say you love me.” He sputtered, looking more and more uncomfortable.
Finally he said “Umm no, I was gonna say good luck and be careful.”
“Oh okay, I will.” She was pretty sure they had just used up their life’s supply of awkwardness in those few moments.
She got up and followed the boy who was just a shadow now. That jerk had started walking without her, but at least he hadn't seen the whole scene with Sam. She jogged to catch up. Question time. “Okay, how were you in my head all that time? It was kinda annoying.”
OH, THIS IRRITATES YOU? GOOD TO KNOW.
“Could you not do that? It gives me a headache.”
NO, I THINK I’LL KEEP TALKING LIKE THIS. TO ANSWER YOUR FIRST QUESTION, AS I SAID BEFORE, I HAVE STRENGTHENED MY BRAIN SO IT IS SIGNIFICANTLY MORE CAPABLE THAN A HUMAN’S.
“There, you did it again, using the word human objectively. If you’re not human, what are you?”
WE, MY DEAR GIRL. I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO ISN'T HUMAN, WE ARE THE SAME.
“‘My dear girl’, really? You’re like my age.”
ACTUALLY I’M ALMOST EXACTLY YOUR AGE. A FEW MINUTES OLDER, BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT. YOU SEE, WE'RE OPPOSITES.
"No kidding" she snorted.
HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED WHY YOUR HAIR IS THAT LOVELY SHADE OF RED? IT'S QUITE INTERESTING REALLY, WE ARE OPPOSITES. YOU ARE FIRE AND I AM ICE. TOGETHER WE COULD DO PRACTICALLY ANYTHING, THE PERFECT TEAM. WE COULD RULE THE WORLD TOGETHER.
"Wait, are you asking me to be your evil queen? Cause no offense, but you're not really my type."
WELL I'M GLAD YOU AREN'T ATTRACTED TO ME, THAT WOULD MAKE THINGS DIFFICULT WITH US BEING TWINS AND ALL.
