3. Chapter 2
While on my morning rounds, I ran into them. The king of Hell's goons. As if the new stranger wasn't the worst part of my day. Thank god no one was around.
"You are not driving me away again." I growled. The ground shook beneath me and knocked the bastards off their feet.
"Crowley's not gonna stop 'till you're his." One of them said.
"Like hell he is." I pulled out one of the daggers I always kept in my boot, drenched with holy water and carved with runes, and stabbed the one closest to me in the arm. Not very affective honestly.
They got up from their places on the ground and came at me again. One pinned me to the ground. I was sure they had me when my opponent burst into flames. It seemed to have been made specifically to hurt him because I was unharmed. But how would plain old fire hurt a soldier of Hell?
"Sorry boys!" A voice called. "But not today!" I recognized the voice. The boy from the diner, Tyler.
"Duck!" He told me, producing a ball of energy in his hand. I hit the ground as he threw it at the demons.
"What the hell?!" My hands errupted into flames and I threw it at the remaining demons. Causing them to flee.
"Are you alright?" Tyler asked, helping me up.
"How the hell did you do that?" I questioned, pushing him off me.
"Do what? Save you life?"
"How do you know how to do magic? How do you know about demons? And hell?" I pushed the stray hair out of my face. He smiled and I huffed.
"I was raised by it."
"You're parents taught you about all this?" I raised an eyebrow.
"My parents hunted these bastards." He confirmed. "They were killed last spring. I've been after the demon that did it ever since."
"And what brought you here?" I sat on the curb, checking myself for injuries.
"I'm not sure exactly. Something drew me here. I got a bunch of clues leading me here. They said I'd find what I was looking for. I hoped it meant the demon." He smirked. "Now I'm thinking it meant you." I felt a blush creeping across my cheeks and turned away from him.
"That sounds ridiculous." I finally said. "Why would they lead you to me?"
"I dont know. It's just, since I met you, I haven't been able to think straight." I tried to ignore his flirtations when something clicked in my mind.
"Did you say your parents died last spring?" I asked.
"Yeah, a demon broke in and killed them." He looked at me curiously. "Why?"
"My parents were killed around the same time."
"Do you think it's connected?" He rasied an eyebrow.
"Possibly. I don't know. I didn't just find myself here either." I admitted. "Something led me here. They told me I could escape it all here. Find what I wanted."
"It was leading us to each other." His eyes widened.
"But why would it? Why put us together? What's so special about us?"
"You mean besides the fact that were magic?" Any retort I had died on my lips when I heard a scream.
"It's coming from the diner!" I said in a panic. I grabbed his arm and ran to the building, just in time to see it go up in a blazing inferno. I looked around, hoping to see someone had made it out. No one was there.
Tears stung in my eyes. Once again any sense of normality was ripped from my grasp.
"What do we do know?" Tyler asked.
"The only thin we can." I replied, fighting back tears. "We run."
