Mari's POV

*two months later*

My eyes shoot open to the feeling of a set of finger tips trailing up and down my bare stomach. Zayn has me pulled very closely to his body, one of his arms wrapped so tightly around my waist that I cannot even move one bit. The feeling of his nice and defined chest resting up against my back makes a tingle shoot down my spine.

"Good morning," he says very closely to my ear, his beautiful voice filling my ear. He places a single kiss behind my ear and it makes a smile spread across my lips.

"Good morning," I reply back to him. His fingers are now drawing circles on my stomach and I have to  bite my lip to keep a laugh from leaving my lips. Am I ticklish you might be asking? Very.

"What's wrong?" he asks before letting his arm go from around my waist. I cannot even move the slightest bit before Zayn rolls me over so that I am directly facing him, my hands laying on his bare chest. I trace my finger over the tattoos on his collarbone and I feel him instantly shudder underneath my touch. "What's wrong Mari?" he presses once more, his eyebrow slightly raised at me. "Are you ticklish?" A smirk spreads across his lips and I laugh at him.

"Maybe," I reply honestly, keeping eye contact with his captivating brown eyes. "B-But that's not all Zayn..."

I realize that my hands are no longer on his chest and look down at my hands to notice that I am now fumbling with my fingers.

        "Mari? What's going o-"

"Do you know what today is?" I ask, cutting him off completely.

"What?" he asks while raising his eyebrow.  "Did you start your period again Mari?" My eyes widen at his words and he smirks.  "Mari it's completely normal for any girl to have a p-"

I scrunch my face up in disgust at his words and he just laughs, his wonderful laughter immediately filling my ears. "No it's not that you dick," I say before hitting him playfully in the chest. "It's something serious."

"Well?" he says. "What is it?"

"You seriously don't know?" I ask him seriously.

        "No...I don't Mari."

How could he not remember a date that effected both of us? This is the anniversary of the day that changed our lives forever...

"Our parents died exactly 8 years ago today."

The second those words leave my mouth, Zayn is completely at loss of words. His mouth opens and closes as he thinks of responding to me, but then he doesn't.

"I-I...w-wow...I-uh...I can't believe I didn't remember," he says while raking his fingers through his thick black hair.

"How could you not remember?" I ask,  then biting my tongue to keep any other words from flying out of my mouth off of impulse. But sadly that didn't help one fucking bit. "They were your parents Zayn for Christ's sake!" I immediately regret saying those words after they leave my mouth...but I can't take them back now...

"What are you trying to say Mari?" he asks, all the playfulness that was once on his face completely washed away. "Are you trying to say that I don't care about my fucking parents?!"  His tone catches me off guard, and it causes me to pull away from him.

        "N-No," I stutter. "T-That's not what I meant Za-"

"Well then what the hell did you mean exactly Mari?" he asks before clenching his jaw. His eyes are now burning into mine, and now I know that I definitely shouldn't have said that to him. He is mad. Wait no...he's pissed. Fucking pissed.

        "Just listen to me Za-"

"Do you want to know why I forgot Mari?" he asks while raising his eyebrow. His tone is still making me flinch, the space between us somewhat getting smaller and smaller as time continues. "It's because of you."

How is this my fault? Before I can even ask what he means by that, he sends me a warning glare which causes me to swallow my words right on the spot.

"Before I even met you Mari, my parents' deaths were all I could think about," he says, his eyes staring intensely into mine. "I used to have nightmares about their deaths unfolding in front of me, images of the night continuously moving throughout my mind. I-I never thought I would ever be able to get over the fact that they were no longer alive. That day is something I will never forget as long as I live." He swallows slowly before licking his lips. "It was traumatic, overwhelming." I see his eyes fill with pain...hurt...and sorrow. The very sight makes my eyes water and it takes my breath away. "But when I met you Mari," he continues, taking one more step towards me, "everything changed." The gap between us is now closed and his hands have wrapped themselves around my own. "You brought happiness to my life. You made me feel like I had a purpose to live again. I immediately felt revived the first time I laid eyes on you. Something about you was just unique...and I just had to have you as a part of my life. I tried to deny it, but I couldn't. And I'm so glad I didn't Mari because you mean the world to me."

A single tear rolls down my cheek as his sweet words put me in a trance as I just stare at him breathlessly and surprised. "That's what I needed-happiness. I was no longer happy after my parents died. I acted like I was...but I never was genuinely happy. But you make me genuinely happy Mari. And I guess that since your very presence makes me so happy, I forget about the world around us. You put me into a state of pure bliss...and I absolutely love that." His thumb wipes away another tear that manages to escape my eye and he flashes a soft smile at me. "Does that answer your question Mari?"

My lips immediately meet his as I completely get rid of the gap between us. His hands find their way to my hips and he rests them there as our lips start to move in sync. My arms wrap around his neck and pull myself closer to him. How lucky am I to have such an amazing boyfriend? Like I don't deserve him. I don't deserve him one bit. But somehow he still loves me, which continues to amaze me every single day I spend with him.

He breaks the kiss and rests his forehead against mine, both of us breathless from the intimate kiss we just shared together. "I love you so much Mari DeSanta. I love you so much that it hurts."

"Stop being so fucking corny," I whisper against his lips, a smile forming on both of our lips as I recall the words I said to Zayn the first night we met.

"You know that you are the first girl to ever call me 'corny' right?" he asks while raising his eyebrow.

        "I'm just being honest."

Zayn pulls away from me and puts his hand on his chest as if my words hurt him. "Ouch," he says before biting his lip. "That really hurt Mari. I'd like to think that most ladies find my words very charming."

"Well that's because they are stupid and can't see right past your bullshit like I can. And besides I have a pair of balls unlike them."

"You have balls?" he asks, a boyish smirk playing on his lips. I send him a warning glare and he puts his hands up defensively, a small chuckle leaving his lips. "I'm kidding," he says. "And I know you can see right through me. That's one of the reasons why I love you."

"There you go with the corny shit again."

"I'm sorry!" he says defensively while smiling at me. "I can't help it! It's a habit!"

I playfully roll my eyes at his remark and he presses a soft kiss on my lips again before walking towards the closet of our new bedroom.

Oh yeah, I forgot all about it. Well the boys', me and Zayn all came back to the States after we were all healthy enough to leave. Brian, Reyna and Zayn's sisters stayed behind in London. Brian happily paid for a new house for all of us to live in which I am very thankful for. I love this new mansion that we live in. It's absolutely beautiful.

"I have some business to take care of," Zayn says while picking through the closet.

        "What kind of business?"

"Not that kind of business," he says referring to the drugs he used to sell. "I told you I was going to quit doing that shit remember? I want a new beginning. A clean slate."

Zayn said a couple weeks ago that he wanted to start off fresh once we arrived back in Jersey. So he cut all of his ties with all of his clients and he is ready to start looking for a real job.

"Are you going job searching again?"

"Of course!" he says before winking at me. "I can't just sit on my ass all day can I?" he laughs. "What are you going to do while I'm gone?"

"Uhhh...maybe I'll go an visit my parents at the cemetery?"

"Do you want me to go with you?"

"No, no," I reassure him. "You have more important things to deal with.

        "Are you sure?"

"Yes. I'm as sure as I'll ever be Zayn," I laugh. I walk over to him and wrap my arms around his waist before pressing a kiss on his bare shoulder. "Good luck today."

"Thanks babe. I'm sure I'll be fine."

"Well...if you don't get the job, you're stuff will be on the front porch tonight."

He snickers at my words and I give him one last squeeze before leaving the room and starting to deal with my own agenda for today...

I pull up to the cemetery and I pull my grey sweat jacket closer to my body as the wind hits me directly in the face. I try to come here as often as I can, especially on the anniversary of their deaths. Each time I come, something new has happened in my life and I tell them every single bit. As I near their tombstones, anticipation rushes through my body. Every time I come here I get nervous. I mean my parents are buried here. I mean...I know they aren't actually here still. But they are still my parents you know?

My parents' headstones are very distinct compared to everyone else's and that's how I immediately spot them. I kneel down onto the ground and take in the sight in front of me. 8 years. I have lived 8 years of my life without any of my parents. Wow.

"Hi Mom. Hi Dad," I say, a small smile over my lips. "How are you guys?"

Sometimes I wonder why I am talking to their headstones like they are real people. But in my mind, they can hear every word I'm saying right now. And besides, it's comforting...

"Things have been well...pretty hectic the past year I must say. Running for your live is not the most ideal situation I've ever wanted to be a part of. But eh? I'm alive aren't I?" I laugh at my words and I can just imagine my parents standing beside me and laughing along with me. "I've missed you guys so much it's unbelievable. I remember how you guys used to tell me "You never miss something until it's gone." Well, now that you guys are both gone, I miss you more than ever." Tears have begun to brim my eyes and I sniffle a little before clearing my throat. "Will's okay. Zayn is okay. Everybody is okay now...including me. I'm better than ever. Now that Damon is dead I feel a lot better. The person who killed you guys...and Zayn's parents is now rotting in hell where he belongs. What more could I ask for?" I sigh before running a hand through my hair and placing my hands over my face.

"Now onto Zayn," I continue. "Zayn is the guy who put me through hell and back at one point. We weren't supposed to be together. No one was willing to respect our relationship. But now, we are finally able to be together. Finally," I say completely satisfied and relaxed. "I am proud to say that Zayn is the most amazing person I have ever met in my entire life. I know that we were not destined to be together whatsoever. But, I love him. I love him so much that it scares my damned self sometimes." A laugh escapes my lips once more and I clasp my hands together. "I love him so much that I cannot even picture my life without him anymore. We've been through hell and back together which made our love for each other grow. I could definitely see myself spending the rest of my life with him. And I hope you guys can see the same vision as I do."

Suddenly, I hear the sound of footsteps coming towards me in the grass and I turn around to find Will with a white t-shirt on and some jeans. "Well look who decided to show up mom and dad," I say while smirking at Will.

I stand up and begin to walk towards Will who has a big smile on his face. As soon as I reach him, I wrap my arms around him and pull him in for a hug. Everything with Damon has changed our relationship as well. We are closer than ever now since we both were on the verge of death at some point during this entire ordeal.

"You know," he says, his eyes looking down at our parents' gravestones, "they would be very proud of you right now Mari."

        "You really think so?"

"I know so," he replies before smiling at me. "I am very proud of you as well. I now know that you can protect yourself," he laughs. "You're as tough as me little sis."

"You're just now finding that out?" I ask him while chuckling. "I'm as smart as you too William."

"Don't push it," he says while smirking at me.

"How did you know I was here?"

"Well Zayn told me and he wanted me to check on you."

"Well...I'm fine Will," I say reassuringly.

"That's not all he wanted me to come for though," Will continues. A glint of amusement flashes in his eye and I question what that is all about. "He wants me to bring you back to the house too. He says that he has some news for you."

"Did he get the job?!" I ask excitedly.

"I can not say," Will says. "I was told to just bring you back home and that's it. Sorry Mar."

I pout at my brother's words and sigh in defeat. "Fine. Take me home then."

As soon as we pull up to the house, the sight of a couple cars in the driveway catches my eye. What the hell is going on?

"Who the hell are all these people Will?" I ask while looking out the window. Will doesn't say anything back to me. He just keeps his eyes glued on the road in front of u, but I can still clearly see the devilish smirk that has spread itself across his lips.

He stops the car in the driveway and I take this as my opportunity to hop out of the car. As soon as my feet hit the concrete beneath me, I make my way towards the front door. I take my house key out of my purse and put it in the key hole before twisting it and hearing the door unlock. I immediately step into the house to see no one in sight.

In front of me right now is Doniya, Brian, Rebekkah, Elijah, Reyna, Danielle, Safaa and Waliyah. And oh yeah, don't let me forget all of the boys' too.

"What the hell are you guys doing here?!" I ask in excitement.

"We wanted to surprise you sweetheart!" Reyna speaks up before stepping forward. The sight of her rather large belly catches my eyes and I smile.

        "How's little Brian Jr. doing?"

"He's great!" she says enthusiastically while smiling. She is practically glowing. People do say that pregnant women do have some sort of glow to them though. "I have about 5 more months left!"

So it turns out Reyna was throwing up a few months ago because she was pregnant. Go figure?

"That's great!" I say while giving her a genuine smile.

"Okay Reyna. It's my turn to talk to Mari." I look beside Reyna to find Doniya with a big smile plastered on her face as she looks at me directly in the eyes.

"Hi Doniya," I say before pulling her into a quick hug. She hugs me back and the fact that she is actually hugging me still takes me by shock. I think that is something that I will never get used to.

        "How's everything going with you?"

"Everything's going great!" she squeals. "I'm actually signing up for university in a few weeks. I get to actually do something I want to do with my life for a change Mari." A relieved expression washes over her face and I smile. I'm very happy for Doniya honestly. She finally has the opportunity to be happy again.

"Hey you!" I hear Harry say as he wraps his arms around Doniya's waist.

"Hey," she replies back to him. Harry places a kiss on Doniya's cheek and she blushes a little. Awww! How cute!

"Do you guys know where Zayn is?"

"Uhmmm, he's somewhere in the backyard I think."

I flash the two lovebirds a smile before walking away and heading towards the backyard. I reach the back of the house to realize that the back door is already open. Yep, Zayn is back here. I walk through the doorway and my feet hit immediately hit some grass. I look up to find Zayn standing in front of me, a crisp and clean black suit fully clothing his body. His black hair is styled to perfection as the very sight of him in a suit...standing directly in front of me I might add is mouth watering. Jesus he cleans up well. He reaches behind him to only bring forward a dozen red roses and I just stand there speechless. I cannot move.

I think he realizes this because he begins to walk towards me and I become more and more consumed by the person that is Zayn Malik. He stares at me intimately, a soft smile on his lips. He looks like something that just completely came out of a dream!

I dreaming? I better not be dreaming because that would be completely messed up!

"Hi Mari," he says before swiping his tongue across his lips. "How was the cemetery?"

"Forget about the cemetery!" I say, a big smile on my lips. "Tell me what this is all about!"

He laughs at my excitement and he takes one more step closer, making the gap between us even smaller. "Well," he says, "I just wanted to make sure that I had your attention."

"You wanted my attention for wh-"

        I said it too soon.

Zayn begins to kneel in front of me, the beautiful red roses still in his hand.

        "W-What are you doing Z-Zayn?" I squeak.

He reaches into the pocket of his suit jacket and pulls out a beautiful and huge (and by huge I mean HUGE) diamond ring. What the hell?!

"Mari DeSanta," he says while staring into my eyes. "I know that this is not how things were supposed to go. But they did...and now I'm so happy that they did. Mari, I want to be able to spend my every breathing moment with you for the rest of my life. I want to wake up by your side every morning and see your beautiful face. I want the entire world to know that you are my amazing and beautiful wife. I want us to grow old with each other, settle down and have kids together. I'm not a guy who's really good at these types of things. But...what I am really trying to say Mari is that I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. W-Will you marry me?"

        Holy shit.

"Y-Yes!" I spit out "Yes! Yes! Yes!" I am practically bouncing up and down like a child now as Zayn slides the ginormous ring on my finger. Once he's done he stands up and I immediately jump into his arms, my lips meeting his. Our lips fit perfectly together as he kisses me back. "I love you so much," I say against his lips before I kiss him once more.

Did I just agree to marry Zayn? Zayn fucking Malik? Yes. Yes I did. And I could not be more happier with my decision.

Suddenly the sound of multiple hand claps fill my ears and I turn around to find everybody clapping for both Zayn and I. I flash smiles at everyone and Will is the first one to step forward.

"So I'm guessing that you said 'yes' huh?" he asks while looking at me. I nod my head in response to his question and he smiles. "See? Now you see why I couldn't tell you why we were coming back here. It would have ruined the whole entire surprise now wouldn't it?" He turns his attention towards Zayn who's hand his wrapped tightly around mine. "And you," he says referring to Zayn. "You better take care of my sister or I will beat your ass," he laughs.

"Don't worry Will," Zayn replies before glancing over at me, "I'll take good care of her."

"Good," Will replies and then pats Zayn on the shoulder. "Welcome to the family man."

Haha that's crazy. Will used to hate Zayn's guts. But now they are mutual towards each other. That means an improvement has occurred. Thank God.

"I think we should all do a toast for Zayn and Mari eh?" Brian says while smiling at me. Elijah walks outside with a bottle of champagne and a couple of glasses in hand. Rebekkah follows closely behind him with some more glasses and they set them down on a nearby table. Once each glass is filled with a drink, everyone picks up a glass. Zayn hands me one with a beautiful smile on his lips.

"So congrats to Zayn and Mari!" Brian says while raising his glass in the air. "We all hope that you both have a wonderful future together! But enjoy your freedom while it lasts because once you get married you can't do sh-"

"Brian!" Reyna scolds him while punching him playfully in the stomach.

        "I'm kidding! I'm kidding!"

As soon as Reyna turns away he winks at both me and Zayn and we laugh.

"Cheers everybody!" Danielle says, her arm wrapped around Liam's waist.

Zayn turns and looks over at me, his eyes studying my face curiously. "I can't believe that I am going to see your beautiful face for the rest of my life," he says in amazement.

"There you go again being corny," I say while flashing a smile at him. "But that's one of the reason's why I love you."

Zayn raises his champagne glass in front of him and he smiles. "To us?"

"To us," I say, and our glasses clink together before we both take a sip of our drinks.

"Are you going to stay with me  forever Mari?" Zayn asks me seriously.

"Now what kind of question is that Zayn?" I ask while chuckling. "Of course!"

"Always and forever?" His arm snakes its way around my waist, and then he pulls me really close to him. His brown eyes are practically glowing know as I get a good look at them and my eyes scan his god-like face. Haha he's all mine.
        "Always and forever Zayn."

"Good," he says before covering my lips with his. His wonderful smelling cologne fills my nose and he wraps both of his arms tightly around my waist before lifting me off the ground and spinning me in the air.

Yeah, I know that this is very cliche. But I don't give a shit! I am glad to say that I am actually happy! I no longer have to pretend that I am happy for anybody...and I cannot explain how great this feels.

The universe is now on my side and because of that I have this wonderful man that I get to spend the rest of my life with.

I can already see mini me's and mini Zayn's running around! But that will come in time.

However right now, I am enjoying this very moment...the moment where I feel as if me and Zayn are in a world of our own. And luckily, we will stay in this world together infinitely...

        Always and forever.

the epilogue is the next chapter (and is the last chapter too)!  it should be up right now ;)  xx)
