Chapter 44 (Burnt Cookies)
I walked over to the mirror and fixed the hem of my costume which seem to be kinda loose already. Am I getting skinnier? I need more exercise. I sighed as I grabbed my hair tie and braided my hair naturally on each side so I really could look like a cowgirl. Once I had agreed to my look, I went over to Demi's room. As I walked in, I found Demi on the computer watching something on YouTube.
"Hey Dems." I said as I walked into the room, hearing my heels cling clang. Demi turned around as I saw a full preview of her costume.
"Oh my gosh Demi! You look so pretty." I praised her as I ran to her. She laughed as she stood up and gave me a hug.
"You look a princess yourself too." She complimented me back. I giggled as I peered over to the computer screen. Demi was watching a video of XFactor, hope not its those silly clowns shes been watching since we got here.
"What are you watching?" I asked as I got up close to the computer screen. Demi then brush past me and clicked exit on the window.
"Um nothing, its just a boy band sing on the XFactor." She said urgently. Is this a joke.
"Demi. I already know about Harry entering for XFactor. You don't have to hide it from me." I sighed with a smile. Even though Harry didn't make it or pass, I still wish him good luck. He is my boyfrien- I mean best friend. We ended it a long time ago, actually I ended it. I stared at the ground as Demi gave me a weird look.
"Are you alright Selena?" She asked. I snapped out of trance and looked back at her.
"Yeah I'm fine." I said as I tried to stop the tears from coming out. I wiped them off until I heard a buzzer go off. I looked at Demi confused as I looked around.
"Demi. Did you hear that?" I asked as looked over at my purse. Nope my phone isn't ringing. As I was about to shake it off, Demi's eyes went wide.
"My cookies!" She yelled as she ran past me out the door. Cookies? She made cookies? I sighed as I followed her over to the kitchen. As I entered the kitchen, there was Demi coughing as she pulled a tray of burnt cookies out of the oven.
"Aww there burnt." She exclaimed as she removed her oven mittens. I coughed as I walked over to her.
"You made cookies? For what?" I questioned. She gave me a small smile but then wiped it off her face.
"Its for the party tonight. I made them while you were taking a shower." She said gloomy. I stared at the cookies on the tray as Demi tried to pick them up.
"Ow." She said as she dropped it. She groaned as she tried to pick it up again and throw them into the garbage. To be honest, I have never seen Demi upset in a real problem.
"Demi, why not we go buy some from the bakery. They can be decorated if you want?" I asked as I smile. She gave me a giggle making me smile widely. Demi's lips began to part as if she was going to speak but then she paused when my phone began to ring. I ran over to my phone and grabbed it as I peered over to the corner of my eye and found that Demi was frowning. I looked at the screen finding the name Justin flashing on the screen of my phone. I tapped answer and place my phone on my ear.
"Hello?" I said firstly as I sat on the stool.
"Hey Selena. I'm right outside your house right now. Coming?" Justin alerted me. I smiled.
"Yeah I'll be there in 5. See you." I said as I ended the call. I grabbed my purse and placed my phone in it.
"Where are you going?" Demi said as she grabbed her purse to and her coat. I looked at her with a smile.
"Justin's here." I mentioned as she gave me a small smile and went over to the front of the door. I placed my cow girl boots on and opened the door. Demi turned all of the lights off and walked outside. I lock the door then ran down the patio stairs to Justin's car which was parked right at the front of the house like he said.
"Hey Selena." Justin greeted me as he walked over to me with his hands in his pocket. I scanned his body which was covered with a oddly hipster outfit. I gave him a confused look but with a smirk on my face.
"Let me guess, hipster or gangster?" I asked as Demi walked over to me. Justin's eyes brows went up and then back down as he looked down to his costume.
"Oh This. Yeah its uh hipster like you said." He smiled. I giggled as I heard Demi sigh. I peered over to her who had a stern face and his eyes with hatred.
"Hi Demi." Justin greeted her. I watched Demi's features carefully, finding nothing changing as she spoke softly.
"Justin." She said before she made her way inside the car. I shook my head a bit as I returned over to Justin.
"I'm sorry about Demi. Um her cookies that she was going to bring to the party...... burned." I explained to him. He nodded his head in understanding.
"Why not we head over to the bakery before we go to the party. Its a bit early right now actually so no harm done." Justin Offered. Is he really doing this, for Demi? I wonder how Demi is going to react.
"You would really? For Demi?" I asked. He smiled as he nodded his head. Is Justin being sweet or what.
"I'm serious. Why not we head on our way so Demi won't have to wait." Justin tilted his head over to the car and then walked over to the passengers seat. He kindly opened the car door for me as I gratefully accepted it. I mouthed a small thank you to him as he closed the car door slowly. I adjusted my seat belt and made myself comfortable beside Demi in a rather small car. To be honest, it smells like Justin even though I have never smelled him. I mean, why would I smell Justin?
"Radio?" Justin asked as he peered over to Demi and I by the rear mirror. I nodded as I gave him a small smile. I watched his hand carefully go over to the radio, turning it on and boosting the volume up. The song that began to play hit me. It was the song that Demi and I sang long ago back at Harry's car. It was Rockstar by Hannah Montana although she doesn't exist anymore, hardly she ever will be the same since she cut her hair and became obsess with clothing that was see through.
"Way to smart to be waiting around." I mumbled the words as the song kept playing. Once I had said those words, I kind of regretted singing it.
"You like this song?" Justin asked as he made a left turn. I looked over to Demi who was giving me eye contact to say no. I know Demi and I love this song, we sang this constantly in Harry's car last time. But this ain't Harry's car, this is Justin's car whom is taking us to a party. Hopefully he is not kidnapping us.
"Um no actually but it is quite catchy." I answered. Please he bought it, please he bought it. He began to shake his head. I could feel Demi's hand brush mine, to my surprise it was cold. I could feel that she is scared, I looked over to Demi who was in a deep thought right now. As Justin parked in a corner, he turned the engine off along with the unfinished song from the radio.
"Were here guys." Justin exclaim. Yeah I can see why we stopped Justin. I sighed as I grabbed my purse and open the car door, letting the cold air come by me.
"Oh Let me-" He started off as he almost got out of the car.
"No Justin. I'll go by myself." I explained to him, he gave me a light smile as I was fully out of the car.
"Wanna come Demi?" I asked. I knew she would say yes because I know she wouldn't want to be in the same environment with Justin. She looked over to Justin then back at me.
"Yes Please." She smiled as she hurried out of the car. She took over the car door and slammed it shut. Gosh! That was..... something.
"Come on." Demi breathed out as she grabbed my hand and hurried over to the bakery. I don't really know why Demi is acting like this but all I know that she is in a hurry to get some cookies. As We rushed into the bakery, the smell of biscuits went through my nose. I closed my eyes enjoying the smell of awesomeness, if that made any sense.
"Selena. I get a feeling that this Justin boy is up to no good." Demi breathed out.
"Don't Demi me Selena. Remember what happened last time. You almosy got raped by him." Demi warned me. I don't know whats gotten into Demi. She knows that Justin has changed.
"Demi, don't you see. Justin has changed." I reminded her. She rolled her eyes.
"Don't you trust me." Demi spoke softly. I stared at the ground. What if Demi was right I was taken the blame for. I don't know what to expect anymore but to intend a halloween party and have fun.
"I do trust you Demi but I just don't know when..." I whispered. We both stood there silently infront of the entrance door until a old lady came up to us.
"Hello ladies. Is there anything you want for tonight?" She asked kindly. I gave her a light smile as I walked over to the counter, staring at the biscuits and pastries. They all look so delighted and delicious.
"Do you have any cookies for Halloween today." I asked as Demi looked over all the cookies and donuts.
"Oh Yes I do, let me just take them out. There are fresh from the oven right now so your just in time." She said amused as she hurried over to the kitchen. I smiled widely at her reaction. I looked around the room, adoring the photos of how this bakery had looked like long ago.
"This Place reminds me of the bakery that Harry works at." Demi sighed out. It was true, this place did looked similar to the bakery back home. Especially when the walls are perfectly painted in the colour creme just like back home. The lady came back in with a box that had the bakery's label on it. Platine Cookies is the name.
"Here you go darling." She said happily as she passes the giant box over to me. I gently opened the box revealing, cookies that was decorated beautifully. There were haunted houses, witches, goblins, frankienstein. Almost anything that describes Halloween apperently.
"Demi...." I called her, she went up to me as she took a glimps of the freshly baked cookies. She smiled at me as she nodded. I looked over to the old lady and nodded.
"Will take it." I said as she started pushing down buttons on the cashier. I pulled out my wallet from my purse and gave the lady the amount of money that she needs.
"Thank you." I said as I took the box and walked out of the bakery followed by Demi.
"Thanks for buying the cookies. I owe you now." Demi said as she came up beside me.
"No need to, I already owe you something a long time ago." I said as we walked all the way over to the parking lot. As we got over to where the public garbage disposal was, I began to hear Justin talk to someone else.
"Oh Really. What is it the-"
"Shush." I said putting my index finger against my lips. Demi looked over to me with a confused look. I leaned over to a brick wall and peeked over to the corner, finding Justin talking to the phone and leaning on the side of his car.
"Yeah yeah. I have them. There just getting some cookies for the party. Cookies ain't stupid, there actually good. Fine but when you see them, I promise you that you are going to be falling in heels for them. Remember, the cowgirl one is mine. See you later." He said as he hung up to the person he was talking to. Justin mentioned about me, I was the cowgirl. I peered over to Demi who was horrified.
"I Told you...." Demi whispered softly, not changing any facial expression accept for fear. I took a deep breathe. Was this just a trick? Did Justin really change or was it just a act just to get into my pants?
"Just stay calm and act normal. For now until I get to the bottom of this." I told her as she nodded. I gave her a small smile as I got off the brick wall and walked over to Justin's car as if nothing happened and we just bought some cookies.
"Hey Justin. Bought the cookies." I said as I gestured over to the box. He chuckled as he walked over to me. I gave Demi eye contact as she responded by grabbing the box from my hands. Justin's hand almost came in contact with the box but I didn't want him to see it.
"Wait till the party." I made sure he understands as he nodded. I faked smiled as we all went back over to the car.
