Pulling the car to a stop, I take in a shaky breath as Jake lets out a slight sigh.
"Are you sure about this?" He asks, skeptically looking up at the dark apartment block. I swallow the lump in my throat and nod slowly, unbuckling my belt and opening the car door. Once outside, I wait for Jake before we ascend the stairs and come to a stop outside the penthouse door. I wipe my hair from my face as I look around. No lights. No sound. No sign of life.
"I'll look in the windows," Jake says quietly and I nod, watching as he dissapears around the side of the balcony. I ponder for a moment before convincing myself that this needed to be done. I didn't know exactly what I was planning on doing once inside, but I knew it had to be done. After a few moments of deliberating, I step closer to the door and try to push it open.
Locked, of course.
Sighing, I kick the door slightly in frustration. I had no idea what I was doing here. I mean.. it had been 4 years. 4 whole years. What would I say to him?
What could I say to him?
What if it all went badl-
My thoughts are cut off when I catch sight of damage on the door and doorframe. I peer closer at it before running my hand gently over the dents and exposed hard-wood.
"What the hell," I mumble, tracing the rough exposed wood. It looked like someone had already tried to get in.
"Jake," I hiss, but there's no reply. Instead of waiting for him, my curiosity grows the better of me as I kick the door gently. The door cringes again; showing signs of letting up. I bite my lip and ram my side into the door, letting out a huff of breath as it comes unlocked. I re-compose myself as I push the door open and peer inside.
"Oh god," I murmur, the smell hitting me nearly immediately.
"Crystal?" Jake says in surprise, coming to stand behind me and looking inside the door. I just shrug, swallowing the lump in my throat before stepping inside.
Heading back down the stairs, I smile wearily at Louis as he makes his way up.
"He's coming round a little." I tell him and he nods his acknowledgement before continuing up the stairs. Running a hand through my hair, I walk into the kitchen to find Susie and Eleanor sat at the dining room table.
"How is he?" Susie asks as she looks up, bouncing Darcy slightly on her knee.
"He was waking up a little bit, Louis just went up there." I reply, opening the fridge and pulling out a bottle of coke. I pour myself some before sighing deeply.
"We're gunna have to call her." I state and El dips her eyebrows down at me from where she was sat beside Susie.
"I don't think she needs the worry," El objects but I shake my head.
"She needs to know, El. It's the only thing that could help him right now." I say and El looks striken for a moment before slowly nodding, sighing slightly.
"But how?" Susie asks, brushing her curly hair behind her ear.
"I'll have to ring her." I say as I reach for my phone in my pocket. Pulling it out, I dial her number and wait for her to answer.
"Voice mail," I tell them before trying again, willing her to pick up.
"Perrie?" She answers, sending nerves through me.
"Crystal, hey. Where are you?" I ask her, she sounded as though she was getting into a car.
"Would you believe me if I told you I'm at Niall's?"
