"Get back inside, sweety." She hid here feelings. "Mum, what is it?" I asked, knowing what it said. "Oh, I'm so sorry." Was all she could say before she threw her arms around me and sobbed. "It was just one stupid bill! I've kept up with them so well until now, I didn't think it would come to this." She looked at me in the eyes and let me read the paper thoroughly. Then I commented, "Then we better get packing." "Okay." she said looking determined." "Mum, we have twenty four hours to pack up everything valuable in this house and get the heck out. Were going to have to pack up everything from pots and pans to pillow cases. We'll stuff everything in your car and mine, we have no choice but to leave the important things; computers, television, ect. That all has to stay behind... ready?" I speeched.
There was literally no time to think or cry, only do. I knew I couldn't break down, even though I wanted to, because if my mum saw me crying she would start, too. And we couldn't waste time standing around feeling bad for ourselves; that much I knew.
We made a million trips from the house to the cars, loading things in and packing them up. We were both out of breath within only the first 20 minutes, we were running around everywhere; upstairs, downstairs then back up again. It was a never ending cycle of "Where's that?" or "Oh, I forgot this!"
Nine o'clock rolled around too quickly, but we were dead tired. I went up to my room promising that it would only be a quick nap. But when I got under my cozy sheets, all I remember seeing was the sight of my half emptied room, and like a light, I was out.
It was ten minutes before the 24 hour mark. Most of what we wanted was in our cars and our plan was just to drive somewhere until we found an apartment for rent. Right before I was about to get into my car, I realized I had forgotten about my phone. I had put it down somewhere and completely forgot because I was so focussed on packing. I went back into the house and called after my mum, "Can you call my phone?" "Sure." She screamed back. But almost instantly I heard my phone ring. How did she call it so fast? I quickly pushed my thoughts aside and listened for the ringer. I ran upstairs and into my room. I walked over to my bed and found it in my balled up sheets. I was about to pick up the phone and tell my mum I found it, but I suddenly saw that my mum's face wasn't popping up. It was a random number, who though?
I clicked the home button and was greeted with 28 new text meassages, from the same unknown number. As I scrolled through them it came into crystal clear view as to who it was: Harry.
He was asking me where I was and why I hadn't returned any messages and so on. One text read "Lieza gave me your number."
I wanted to reply so badly, but we probably only had 5 more minutes before they came and literally forced us out. And I knew for a fact that trying to explain this to Harry would take well over 5 minutes. Suddenly I heard, "Three more minutes, Sara get yourself down here!!!" My mum screamed. I was forced to leave my room for the last time and meet my mum downstairs. "I'm ready." I said looking at her. She opened the door and led me out. I turned around and she slowly closed it, realizing that it would be the last time she closed it.
I got into my car and mum got into hers. She led the way and I followed. It was killing me that I was still unable to respond to Harry. Then my phone rang for a text and I allowed myself to read it.
"I'm coming over."
Those three simple words made my heart stop. I was picturing Harry just walking up to the abandoned structure, pounding on the door, not knowing where I was. What if he thinks I'm ignoring him, or cheating on him, or worse... kidnapped even killed. My mind couldn't stop flickering through images that made me nauseous. I felt my eyes become glassy and my vision automatically changed to blurry.
My heart sunk again, I had worried so much about Harry that my mum's car had gone completely out of sight. I was literally alone now. I shuttered as I stopped the car, analyzing my situation. I had no house, my mum was gone, Harry was looking for me and I had no idea where I was. This day couldn't get worse.
I figured I could find my mum by calling her but first I needed to Facetime with Harry. That was my priority. I was able to get into the Wi-Fi coming from the house I was parked next to. I scrolled through my contacts and stopped when I saw a curly haired boy. It was only half a ring before he picked up.
"Sara, oh my gosh where are you?!" He asked sounding half relieved.
"Harry, I'm just gonna say it, okay?"
He turned pale and started before I could. "I knew it, your breaking up!"
"Sara just forget it."
"I was so stupid! I thought that what we had was real!"
"Harry we do! Let me expl..."
And that was all I could get out before I heard the 'beep beep beep' and the call had ended. I was wrong, this day could in fact, get worse.
Thanks for reading! Sorry I couldn't update sooner... my next chapter should be up sometime tomorrow. Hope everyone's enjoying it. :)
