Chapter Two-- The House Visit
I wake up and try to wipe the sleep out of my eyes. I turn my head and look at my alarm clock, it was 2:30 in the morning. I sigh.
I can't sleep, once I'm awake I'm awake and there's no way I can fall back asleep.
I stand up unwillingly and walk to the kitchen. I get myself a glass of water, I would get coffee but it's way too early for caffein. I take a drink of the water to moisten my dry desert-like throat.
I walk into the bathroom and I look in the mirror, I put on my glasses. I mess around with my hair a bit but it's 2:30 in the morning so I don't really care how I looked.
All that was on my mind was in fact that girl I saw. Angelica, I think was her name.
She couldn't have been bleeding that much blood if she just fell, unless she fell into a pile of nails, but that was unlikely.
I sit on my couch and I pull out my laptop and headphones and I start watching anime, more specifically, Clannad. I'm so obsessed with that show. Whenever I watch it my eyes basically get glued to my laptop screen and reality fades.
Before I knew it, it was 10 o'clock.
"Dang..." I whisper.
I couldn't believe I basically wasted my entire day.
I get up to get a cup of coffee and a pack of M&Ms, needless to say I was too lazy to make anything.
It's so cold in here.
I start up a fire in the fire place. I sit in front of the crackling fire while the warmth kisses my cold skin.
Even when I was watching Clannad for some reason that name kept popping into my mind. I had to hold back the vomit thinking of all that blood that covered her arm front the shoulder down.
I start to hear yelling, that means mom and dad woke up.
Why the h-
My thoughts are interrupted with the sound of broken glass. That means mom must've thrown something.
I roll my eyes.
This is pathetic… All this fighting! That's all that these people seem to do!
"I'm heading out!" I yell up the stairs to mom and dad, they probably don't even hear me through all that screaming.
I walk outside, it's actually really warm, like... Wow. The autumn leaves fall, red, yellow, orange they all fall to the earth. You could have mistaken it for spring if the leaves hadn't covering this empty town. I walk the streets. Yet again... No one is to be seen. I hear the dead leaves crunch under my feet. A rush of cold wind hits my face. A shiver runs down my spine, I should've gotten a coat while I could.
While I'm walking I notice I'm walking on the sidewalk that Angelica walked on yesterday. Dried blood left a trail on the ground. I follow the trail and it leads me to a big house, I hear the screaming and laughter of children. I lift up my arm to knock but I stop myself. I sigh and turn around then start walking away.
Linda was actually being a mother today. It's five o'clock and she hasn't handed the kids over to me, I'm guessing she's realized I'm just a 17 year old kid and I need a break.
I walk outside and I see the back of a man's head... Is that Aaron.
"McLaughlin?" I ask.
He stops. He slowly turns around. He looks at my arm.
"The blood dried on your arm..." He says.
I look down.
"Yeah it's still bleeding a little bit but it's mostly done bleeding." I say.
He looks at my arm and back up at me.
"Um..." He starts to say something but seems to stop himself.
He bites his lip, I don't think he wants to talk...
"Do you want me to help you clean your arm off?" He asks quietly.
I nod slightly.
"Sure," I answer, "You're not one to talk much are you?" I ask.
He shakes his head, "Easy to tell?" He asks chuckling a bit in embarrassment.
Yes, duh. I want to say yes but I keep myself from doing that, "No. I've been practically raising eight shy kids for two years, I'm good at guessing when someone is shy." Which is basically the truth I guess...
"Oh, eight?" He asks.
He starts to walk into my house but I stop him.
"How about your house?" I ask.
He goes to shake his head no, but he stops himself. He sighs and puts his head down.
"Okay..." He mumbles.
We walk I to his house, he gives me my coat, that I took off on the walk to his house, to cover my arm.
We stand outside of his house. He takes a deep breath and slowly opens the door.
Silence, it's very quiet. Finally I'm not in a crazy loud house.
I see his mom and dad sitting on a couch watching TV.
I look at Aaron, shock has filled his blue eyes.
"Hello Aaron, who's your friend?" His mother asks.
"Um," he starts to say but stops himself.
"Son, you're going to have to speak if you want to have friends, or maybe to have this pretty girl to be your girlfriend.
His face gets bright red, my face reddens a bit too. His father laughs.
"We're just going to go upstairs…" Aaron mumbles.
"Okay just behave." His mother says.
I walk upstairs into the bathroom with him. He turns on the sink water and I take off my jacket. He removes the gauzes I had wrapped on my arm. He gasps when he sees my cut.
"This is from falling?" He asks.
I nod real quick, he nods back. I can tell he doesn't believe me, only a complete moron would believe someone got a cut like this just from falling.
He wiped the dry blood and placed the rag on my wound. The white wag quickly grows red from my blood.
"Still bleeding a little?" He asks emphasizing on the world "little" because what I had said earlier. I could tell he was shocked on the amount of blood.
"Yeah, I know..." I mumble.
"I think you need stitches." Aaron says.
"McLaughlin... I'm fine." I say.
"No you're not! I know you didn't fall and that's a fact! I have no idea what did happen to you, and I'm sure I never will but, gosh Angelica you need to see a doctor!" He yells. He covers his mouth in shock he yelled at me.
I couldn't believe he just yelled... He barely does anything more than a whisper.
"I'm sorry..." He says quietly.
"It's fine..." I mumble, "If you want me to and you walk with me... Then I'll go to the damn hospital..." I mumble.
His face lights up like fireworks on the Fourth of July.
He wraps my arm back up and put the jacket back on me and he grabs his jacket then we're out the door.
