Chapter 5 - Taree
I glared at Logan as I walked into James’s place.
“Taree!” James called after me. Whipping around I looked at him. He was shutting his front door.
“I am not in the mood, James.”
“I was just going to ask if you are okay.”
“Okay? I just had the biggest fight with Ema, yeah. I’m just peachy.” I plopped myself down on his couch.
“Taree, what are you going to do?” James sat next to me.
“Move in with you.” I crossed my arm.
“As much as I would love that, you can’t.”
“Cuase’ I say so.”
“So, you're just going to kick me out.”
“No, you’re going back to your place.”
“Nope.” I got up walking outside to find Kendall, Carlos and Logan all waiting.
“Can I stay…”
“No! Say no.” James said behind me.
I head back in not ready to even think about seeing Ema. Sitting back down next to James.
“Listen, I know your made at the world and all, but are you really going to let this little fight stand in the way of your friendship.”
“Didn’t you hear…”
“I heard everything, my neighbors heard everything, but that’s not the point. She thought she was helping you…”
“By leaving me…”
“Stop thinking about you and what happened to you. Think about how hard it must of been for Ema to leave you there. Alone.”
I just looked at him. I was the one ditched and somehow I was to feel sorry for her?
“Ema has never left you, not when you weren’t invited to the coolest parties and even when you were, when you had to miss that overnight field trip, not for your first dance, date, breakups, who was there for all of those and more?”
“Ema.” I crossed my legs, turning to look at him.
“Now how do you feel?” I felt like cry or throwing up; it was a mix feeling. I was being such a baby. Acting like this was all about me when she thought she was being nice. She thought she was watching out for me. Like that time she over heard a prank that some girls were going to pull on me, she was there; stopped it before it happens. She's pulled more all nighters with me then anyone. Plus part Logan's fault too. This one little thing wasn't going to put an end to us.
“Like your a pain.”
He gave me a look.
“This isn’t just about me.”
Quietness filled the air as I think about even more things Ema has ever done for me, gilt for the words I said hits me.
“James, what do I do now?”
“Well, you get a large pizza, tub of strawberry ice-cream, M&Ms, and go home.”
I smiled at him.
Walking away I turned, “You know it’s odd that you know our comfort.”
“That’s what I’m here for.”
I was about to shut the door when he held “Love ya’, cuz.”
“Back at ya cuz.”
If I sat here any longer the pizza was going to start going cold. A note the size of Texa sat in my stomach. Opening the door, it’s the same way it was before.
“Ema!” I called, surprise no answer.
I went into the kitchen and got to spoons. She wasn’t in the living-room or bathroom, so that meant she was in her room.
“Ema?” Her back was to me, her face lit up by her cellphone.
“What do you want?”
“I come in peace.” Nothing.
“Ema, I got pizza.” Still nothing.
“I got strawberry ice-cream.” For a moment I thought she wasn’t going to speak.
“Like I could forget.” She sat up.
I came in and sat on her bed
“I’m sorry.” She just looked at me. I opened the pizza, and sat the strawberry ice-cream and M&Ms down. Holding out the spoon. Time stopped.
“I am too.” She took the spoon.
I smiled at her.
“I wasn't thinking about…” I waved the spoon around.
She pulled open the lid to the ice-cream.
I opened the M&Ms and dumped them right on top of the ice-cream.
We took a scoop, pick with a dash of red, blue, green, orange, brown.
“I forgive you.” She said.
“It’s not because of this?” I points to the tub of ice-cream with my spoon.
“No, there’s the pizza too.” For the first time that night she smiled at me.
