4. Pep Rally

The summer ended pretty quickly because before we knew it school had started and the first three weeks passed with ease, it was the last day of September and the day of our fist pep rally. Oh course I was dreading it but Arianna loved pep rallies and to make fun of how skanky the cheerleaders looked. I was laying on her bed as she sat at her dresser brushing her hair, she had put on one of her black skirts and a purple Mickey Mouse t-shirt. She was always one for boots and was wearing her favorite black ones that came to her ankles, she looked great like always.

I for was hated skirts and preferred my black skinnies, a black off the shoulder shirt, and my converse. The only thing I liked to wear with color was the makeup Arianna put on me, especially eyeliner and lip gloss. She had her hair pinned off to the side hanging to her left, but like always I had my hair in a ponytail.

"Hey you ready to go?" She asked.

"Yeah let's go." We skipped down the stairs shouting a goodbye to Kelly before running to her Jeep and speeding down the street, Arianna was always one for fun and taking risk. If it were up to her she'd have a dirt bike instead of a Jeep, but of course her mom said no but would think about letting her get a motor cycle at eighteen. I turned on the radio and Radioactive started blasting through the stereos, we both screamed out happily and started singing along.

The drive to school didn't take long when we pulled into the parking lot and climbed out, "Ready to face the wolves?"

She didn't answer all she did was glare out the front window, "More like am I ready to face Luke."

I laughed and she scowled at me, "It's not funny I just wish he would stop it's getting old and I just really want him to stop."

Luke was this guy in our grade who had been trying to get Arianna to go on a date with him since sophomore year, but she has never given him the light of day. He's a jerk and one of the most loved boys at our school, he's gone out with basically every girl here by junior year and Arianna was his next target. But she knows all about his history and won't even talk to him when he tries to get her attention, and he has made many efforts like causing a scene in the lunchroom one day shouting over everyone asking her to prom, she said no.

He came to her house and asked Kelly if he had permission to date Arianna, oh course Kelly found it hilarious and Arianna just kicked him out.

On her birthday he did a whole musical number singing to her about making her his, she took the cupcake she had and smashed it in his face.

His last effort was to ask me to talk her into giving him a chance, I laughed in his face and walked away.

So to speak he's made quite an effort for no reason, looking out the window I saw him jogging over to her Jeep and she groaned ducking further in her seat. His face appeared at her window and knocked mouthing roll it down, I shook my head and he knocked again. This time Arianna straightened up and rolled down the window.

 "Hello Luke."

"Good morning to you too sweetheart, how are you Ruby?"

I faked a smile, "Fabulous Luke don't you have a fan girl group over there waiting for you." I pointed to the group of girls all smiling and ogling him, he waved them off and looked back at Arianna.

"So Annie when are you gonna give me a chance?"

"When Shakespeare comes back alive with Romeo and Juliet by his side." She remarked making him confused I giggled and climbed out the truck, "Now if you'll excuse me Ruby and I have classes to get to."

She smiled and looped her hand in mine walking away, I looked back at him but he had a smirk on his face I was confused when he yelled.

"Keep running Arianna I love the chase!"

She shook her head irritated, "Just ignore him he'll get the hint someday, I only have nine more months of high school left and he'll have to get over me by graduation."

I nodded and she led us to our first class.

The day went by quickly it amazed me when I climbed the bleachers to where Arianna sat, she had a smile on and patted the seat next to her frantically, "Come here I have to talk to you."

 "What is it?"

"I heard there's gonna be a big announcement and a big surprise for some girl."

Her excitement was like sunshine rolling off her in huge dosses as she talked about it, "You just love love don't you?"

"Oh come on there's some lucky girl in here who is probably going to have her boyfriend make a big deal about their anniversary and maybe even better."

"We need to get you a boyfriend so he can do that stuff for you." I whispered teasing her, she nudged me playful and a whistle blared through the gym hurting my ears, "Why must they always do that?"

She laughed as the cheerleaders came out and did their 'dance routine' in their short skirts and fake boobs, the football players came out and so did the principals and anybody else who was important.

The principal came up to the microphone and cleared his voice, "Okay students settle down settle down our football team has an announcement and I hope you will respectful."

I booed as Arianna put both her thumbs down, the lights were cut off and everyone stood quiet. A spot light came down and it was on three guys, I couldn't see their faces but one had a microphone, "Ladies and gentlemen we want you all to know that there is a very special girl somewhere in the audience in for a big surprise. Now if you would please help bring her to the gym floor we'd really appreciate it."

The spot light moved to the side to show none other than Luke, "Oh no."

I looked at Arianna who I could barely make out a frown on her face, she grabbed my hand as we stood from our seats trying to make our way through the crowd.

"Ladies and gentlemen I'm looking for one girl and one girl only, Arianna Taylor where are you?" He asked and a spotlight started roaming the crowd, Arianna pushed fast through the crowd yanking me with her almost making me fall. I tried my best to keep up but she was too fast but we made it through the crowd and to the stairs the light came down on us and we froze.

“Oh crap."

I wanted to face palm myself, “Double crap."

“And there she ladies and gentlemen, CJ Fred can you please help Annie down here please." Just as he said it two guys from the football team appeared and took Arianna from my grasp, she snatched her arm away and spirit made her way down the stairs. I could hear people rooting for her to shoot him down again and others hoped she would give in, they've been at this for two years so while school was used to Arianna's rejections and Luke's dad attempts to win her over. I tried to catch up to her but one of the football players grabbed my arms and held me back, my struggle was no match for his muscles.

I watched as her blonde curls bounced against her back as she angrily walked over to Luke's side, “Luke what's the meaning of this?"

"Arianna Taylor I'm standing before this entire school hoping that you will agree to go on a date with me."
She stomped her foot impatiently but smirked, “Give me one God reason why I should say yes."
This made him freeze and both me and her to snicker, he thought quickly before saying, “Because I really like you."
“You like a lot of girls."
He stumbled back a little, “I've gone through the trouble to do this for you."
 She laughed, “Not good enough."
Just as she started to walk away he reached for her arm and spun her around, she lifted her leg quickly and into his crotch. He screamed out and the room filed with ohhs and ahhs, Arianna ran to me as I smacked away the jock's grip on my arm. My gaze found Luke's and saw the hatred in his eyes thinking he was really mad at Arianna, but it was much more than that. I ran after her out of the gym and to the school parking lot, she was laughing and I burst out in giggles with her. The doors opened to have our entire school run to their cars while their laughter filled my ears, some gave Anna thumbs up and others looked at us in disgust.

I just laughed in their faces, I looked at Arianna and her smile spread on her face as she yanked my arm back to her Jeep throwing me in. All that I saw was the bright smile on her face and I knew exactly where we were going, we pulled up to Fannie's Ice Cream Shoppe to see Freddy the same boy we always saw when we came here.

"Well haven't seen you girls in a while what's it been a day?" He laughed.

"Freddy you know better it's been a couple of hours we came here last night." She giggled back, "We want the usually brownie sundae with...."

"Make sure I put extra brownies and hot fudge, yeah Ann I know."

She blushed and I could see the small smirk Freddy was trying to hide, I knew they liked each other but he wouldn't make a  move and Arianna didn't believe he liked her. It's a big circle that only I knew about but I still enjoyed watching them flirt.

"Hey flirty can we go to our park?" She looked up shocked and smacked my arm, "Oww."

"Don't say that again or I'll kill you with my..."

"Gross smelling feet, I swear your feet smell like death." I snickered and she looked least she was about to stab me when Freddy came with our ice cream.

"Here you guys go the A and R usual." He smirked, I handed him a ten and told him keep the change. He smiled and Arianna watched him until we walked out the front door.

 "Yeah so not obvious."

She rolled her eyes and started the Jeep, I began to eat my sundae it was my and Anna's favorite A triple Chocolate Brownie Sundae with chocolate ice cream, hot fudge, brownie chunks, and whipped cream. The taste was phenomenal and delicious it was the only thing we spent hundreds of dollars on every week, Our parents don't help our addiction either. They still hand us each fifty dollars each week, but the only thing that was better than our sundaes was our park.

Livington Park, the park that me and Arianna loved to go to and used to spend every hour of every day at. When we pulled up to it I leaped out and took in the entire park lovingly, the bright blue sky, all the different colors that graced the tree tops ranging from red to green to orange, the emptiness and peaceful silence of its grounds.

Since it was still early no kids were here yet and it'd just be me and Arianna for a while, I looked at her and she smiled at me her eyes sparkling as we ran to the spinning wheel. I laid down on my back as Arianna ran in a circle screaming at the top of her lungs and jumping on, I laughed loudly and looked up at Anna as her caramel curls spun around her head and her laughter filled me ears.

This is one of the best memories I have of her, curiosity and innocence shining in her eyes, her laughter loud the whole world could hear her, and her love radiating off of her in heaps and coming directly at me.

This was the best day we had before that night, I just wish I could have told her how much I loved her right then and there.
