A knock at the door wakes me from me light sleep. Light leaks through a small gap between the curtains. Morning and still neither of my parents are home. Another knock grabs my attention and I begin to fumble around for the keys. I manage to pull the door open and on the doorstep stands an old man wearing a crisp suit and a grim expression. "Are you Elsa Mauseth?" he asks. I nod. "I have some terrible news I must tell you." he says, looking uncomfortable. I allow him and lead him into the kitchen. "Have you had any contact from your parents since they left?" He asks me. "No, none. Why?" He just shakes his head sadly and I stare at him, completely confused. "Elsa, your parents are no longer with us. They died in a car crash between the hours of 11 pm and 3 am. I'm sorry." I just stand there, gripping the surface of the breakfast bar, hearing the words but not understanding. "They're gone?" I ask quietly. He must have heard because he gives a small nod and looks down at his hands. "We're trying find someone to look after you and your sister until you're 18. I will leave you alone. Best of luck, miss Mauseth." The door closes and then the words suddenly make sense. I'm filled with grief but also anger. They died. They put themselves and their stupid arguments before me and Anna and now they're gone. "Stupid. Useless. Parents." I mutter angrily. I punch the wall to let out my frustrations but its not enough. I lose control.
