I climb on the back of Secrets' motor bike, with Topic and Alex in the side car. I wrap my arms around Secrets' waist, my hands locking in front of him. He revs the engine, making it vibrate beneath me. I giggle, something I normally would have never done.
"Oh, yeah, Secrets. You guys can have my sewing room." Since she burned down Secrets and I's room earlier. He doesn't answer, but turns and looks at me, smiling, and pulls down the shade of his helmet. I lay my head on his back, feeling his boy heat rather than the cold breeze outside. He starts driving down the street. Topic falls asleep against Alex in the side car, and he drapes a coat over her as a blanket. Seeing her fall makes me realize how tired I am. My feet ache from dancing, and I can barley hold my eyes open. Topic speaks up, awakening.
"Secrets, how far from home are we?" She mumbles softly. We pass under the romantic street lights, and I feel Secrets speed up in happiness. I try to look up and watch them, but their too bright for my sleepy eyes. I turn my head down, and slowly go to sleep as we ride. The last thing I remember hearing was Secrets whispering.
"Sweet dreams." And my eyes closed.
I'm in a tree, higher than I would normally climb. I look around to see if I can distinguish what tree I'm in. I notice a backpack on the ground. The one I had in the games. Wait, I'm in the arena. I look down, and there's a boy, Lucas. The boy who won. I know what's going to happen, so I brace myself. I fall, for what seems like forever. I try to flip, to move, to hold on the branches that hit me as I fall, but I can't. I don't hit the ground, but I land on something like a pole. It strikes through me, and comes out near my chest. I can see the spear tip through the black splotches in my eyes. I can't feel anything, not even the pain that I know is present.
"I guess the little Victor got hung up on something, didn't she?" I hear Lucas say, laughing his deep laugh. My eyes roll back in my head, and I can't see anything. My body stops moving completely, and I die.
I don't realize I'm screaming until I see Topic, rubbing my back, trying to calm me down. I whip my head around, trying to be rid of the images in my head. To make sure I'm all the way out of the arena. Once I fully wake up, I realize what happened. Another nightmare.
"I...I'm fine," I swallow, slowing my breathing, "I'm sorry."
The motorbike skids to a halt in front of our mansion, and Secrets whips his helmet off, facing me. He sighs when he sees that I'm no longer having a panic attack.
"Phew. You scared the life out of me."
"I'm sorry." I say between breaths.
"I...I'm going to go move the stuff out of the sewing room for you." Topic jumps up and runs out around the house, Alex close behind her.
"Alright...as long as you're okay." Secrets gets off the bike, taking my hand and helping me off, "Are you up for bed."
"Yeah sure. But um, I'm going to get something to eat before bed. I didn't have dinner."
"Brilliant." He kisses my cheek quickly, and pulls away, "Jeez, you're still shaking. That nightmare must have really spooked you."
"It happens all the time, it's fine." I nod to reassure him I'm okay, and I let go of his hand, walking up the steps to the front door. I have to clear my head, calm myself down. He doesn't know about the games. He probably thinks I'm a lunatic, having nightmares all the time. I walk to the kitchen, taking off all my jewelry and setting it on the counter. I press my palms against my temples, screaming at myself.
"Kennedy! Get it together!" I press harder, until I feel myself stop shaking, and grab a sandwich from the fridge. It's in a bag labeled Tori, but she'll have to get over it and make another one.
When I go downstairs, Topic is squealing that she can fix the room. She moved her sewing stuff out, and put a bed in there.
"Nice, I guess. I'm not the one to notice décor." I say, smiling just seeing Secrets again.
"And there's a wardrobe, for Kenny!" She opens a dresser, filled with dresses and corsets and heels.
"I sewed it all myself!" She says excitedly. Still in a good mood, I nod.
"Wow. Well, thanks, Topic. I love it, but I think I'll stick to black leggings and leather vests from now on." She doesn't pay attention enough to be hurt, just runs around fixing every imperfection.
"Topic, a little privacy, please?" Secrets says slyly. I try to hide my blush.
"Oh, yeah." She slips next door, and Secret's turns to me. I smile at him.
"Alone, at last." He whispers.
"Ah, now, where were we?" I say, taking a few steps towards him, staring into his eyes.
"Oh, I think I remember." He kisses me, hugging my body tightly against his. I run place my hand on his neck, letting the kiss last a few more seconds before giving in.
"This is so nice, but I'm so sleepy. To be continued?"
"Mmm, tomorrow morning?"
"Patience, grasshopper." I whisper into his ear, then slip out of my shoes and let my hair out of it's braid, sliding under the covers on the bed.
"Oh, alright. I guess we'll just let it flow." He takes off his top, and grabs his gun, laying next to me. He takes the gun apart, slowly cleaning it piece by piece. I hear Topic muttering and rustling in the other room, and I decide to check on her.
"I'm going to check on Topic." I announce to Secrets.
"Good idea." He answers, still cleaning his gun. I tiptoe into the next room, and see Topic rolling around on the floor, screaming for Haven. Her dead brother.
"Topic! Topic, it's okay." I grab her shoulders, trying to get her to look at me. She's asleep. I can't wake her up, nothing works. She just screams for Haven and rocks around on the floor. Eventually, I just hug her and rock along with her.
"Everything okay in here?" Secrets says from the doorway. I look up, terrified.
"I don't know what to do!" I almost scream, begging him with my eyes to help me. He kneels down next to Topic and I.
"Oh dear, she's suffering from PTSD. Poor girl." He whispers to himself. I let go and stand, letting her help her, getting out of the way.
"Wake her up!" I scream, trying to encourage him but ending up sounding bossy. He grips her shoulders, saying her name loudly.
"Topic. Topic, look at me." He brings her eyes to face his. I stand away, not knowing what to do.
"You're okay. You're in the mansion, me and Kennedy are here, okay? You're safe."
"But, but H-Haven." She shakes. I can barley take it.
"He's not here. He's gone. But we're here, okay? We're here for you. Just try to relax, and calm down. You're safe." I try to back him up, but no words come out, so I just nod.
"I'm....I'm sorry for ruining your night." She cries.
"Don't worry, me and Kennedy are fine with a few minutes of our night being used to help you.
Just relax. Breath in, breath out and sleep." He picks her up gently, placing her on her bed, pulling the duvet over her shaking body.
"Secrets, I have to go. I'll be in the other room." I have to leave. I can't take seeing her like this. It makes me think about what would happen if I lost a sibling.
"Alright, I'll see you in a bit." He turns back to Topic, and I run. I run out of the room and into mine, burying my head under the blankets. I hear the door to Topic's room being knocked open, and hear Alex's voice.
"Is she okay? I heard screaming!" He screams. He's wearing boxers and a tee shirt. I hear Secrets explain to Alex, and he comes back in the bedroom.
"I'm sorry. I didn't want to be in the way. It's just, you're so good at that stuff. I'm not." He sighs and lays next to me.
"Yeah, well, I've had to deal with that kind of stuff before. What stuff are you not good with? Being kind in general?"
"I guess you could say that." Before we say anything else, Alex interrupts us. He stands awkwardly in the doorway.
"Secrets, is she okay?"
"Yeah. She just had a little bit of a panic. Is she still sleeping?"
"No, she's sewing."
"Okay, as long as she's calm."
"Oh, and hi, Kennedy." Alex says, nodding. I smile a little.
"Hey, but if you don't mind, I'd like to see you with pants on from now on." His face turns a light shade of red, but he smiles.
"Right. Well, as long as she's calm." He faces me next, "And you'll get the hang of it." I don't think I'll ever get the hang of being nice, but whatever. Alex leaves, shutting the door. Finally able to go to sleep, I scoot closer to Secrets, and burry my head in his chest. He puts his arm around me.
"Promise?" I say, and I'm asleep, just like that. I don't know if he answers or not, but I dream he says "I promise."
About twenty minutes later, a voice wakes me. Not enough to cause me to open my eyes, but to know I'm awake.
"Is something wrong?" I ask Secrets sleepily, keeping my eyes closed. He whispers back.
"Nope." And I fall asleep again, without a care in the world.
