They won't know anything about me. Nothing. Not my family, not my life, and especially my skills. I figured the first part out on my own, but how I supposed to hide my dangerous qualities.
"They'll eat you alive if you show them." Dash utters, warning me for the millionth time how valuable the quality of secrets is.
"Alright. Can I go now?" I've developed a sense od arrogance since I got on the train. Trying to hide my true identity. If they think I'm a little girl, not worried at all, then they'll take it easy on me, thinking that being alone in an arena will dull my attitude and I'll end up doing something to get myself killed. It's funny how easy it is to read people, even when they're acting, I can tell what they're thinking. It's a secret of my own, since I have no powers I claim just yet. I never used my wand, so there's no magic there. Just me, in my own little world.
"Fine." He counters my annoyed voice. I roll my eyes at him and walk out, strutting more like. I hear him grunt in disapproval behind me.
Back in my compartment I change out of my plum dress for the first time since the Reaping. I carefully take my boots off, and slip a pair of black leggings over my legs. They're soft against my skin, along with a silk shirt the same color as my dress. I put my boots back on, not wanting to loose them. They're what I'm wearing to the training center, and for the next few days. They're all I've got of my former self.
"Hey, you tried the strawberries?" Fisher asks me, tilting his head and smiling at the sweet taste of the red berries he sucks down at a million miles per minute. I nod my head yes. They were amazing, and when dipped in chocolate, they were a delicacy. However I've had them before, at home.
"My sister won, you know." I point out, deflecting anymore talk about being poor. Evelyn actually just won last year.
"I do know. Just asking." He turns on his heel, taking the bowl of strawberries with him. I laugh to myself, and take some tiny cake cubes with me to my room. I sit on the bed, thinking of all the ways I could lose this. I know everyone is expecting me to win, that doesn't include me.
**Two hours later**
Creatures with pinky skin and eyelashes longer than my fingers prop and probe me for minutes on end. They tear every last strand of hair from my legs and arms, taking samples of my skin to find out what chemical makes me different than them.
"OW!" I scream when they rub yet another burning scrub on my open skin.
"You need to calm down." Sheaper barks, throwing hot towels on my legs.
"Whatever." I answer, and bite my lip for the rest of the preparing. Who could honestly be so important that I have to alter my entire body g=just to meet them?
