2. Pretend to know him!
I’m half way down the road when I sense that today is going to be a weird day. I mean I walk on my own to school because all my other friends either get a lift to school or live in the opposite direction. It’s not as though a zombie apocalypse is about to happen or something it’s just that I literally am the only person walking on their own. Everyone else is either skipping hand-in-hand with their boyfriend/girlfriend or walking with their friend and stalking their prey a.k.a the group of boys/girls in front of them. Seriously I don’t know what it is but on this day everyone seems to get hyped up about the idea of being in love. Everyone gets sad about being alone on V day, but what about the other 364 days of the year?
I notice that on the other side of the road is a boy I’ve not seen before. Surprisingly he’s actually walking on his own. But there are 3 girls galloping behind him giggling every time he looks wearily behind him. He suddenly catches me looking at him and starts to wave. Oh no, I think do I know him? I hate these kinds of moments. I decide to pretend I know who he is and smile back. Bad move, after I smiled at him he suddenly ran across the road towards me! Oh dear, what do I say I can’t even remember his name! When he reached he pulled me into an embrace. Panicking, I just went mute for a moment and said nothing. I was wondering what to do when he whispered in my ear ‘Hey, sorry about this but can I pretend I know you to get away from them girls over there.’ I look over his shoulder and see the 3 of them standing there looking puzzled. ‘Oh!’ I say realizing what he had been doing. ‘Hey… um.’ I still don’t know his name. ‘Daniel.’ He whispers. ‘Oh yeah, hey Dan! How are you?’ He suddenly smiles and I don’t know why. But, it feels me with that weird gooey feeling that some girls say they get. And I swear his smile is contagious as I suddenly smile back and then for some unknown reason, burst out laughing. Not the small, cute giggle your meant to do around boys. A huge idiotic rumble. He gives me a odd look then joins in and for about 5 minutes the two of us are nearly rolling on the floor laughing.
After that random attack of hysterics I hear the school bell ringing just up the road. This not only means we’re late it means that we’ll get a detention after school because it’ll take over a minute to get there if we run now! ‘Oh great, late on my first day!’ He says. ‘It’s your first day, I thought I hadn’t seen you before?’
‘Yeah, and it may not mean much to you, and it normally wouldn’t to me either, but I don’t want to be late so I think it’s time we started running.’ So we start scrambling down the road desperate to get to class. WE reach the gates and before I know it we’re powering through the corridors. I can’t believe how quickly people have got to class when I remember. ‘WAIT, It’s Friday!’
‘We have assembly on Fridays!’ Knowing we have to get to the other end of the school in under 30 seconds I suggest we think of an excuse. ‘I know!’ he says ‘We could just say that I got lost and that you were showing me the way.’ I think to myself a while then decide its better than: sorry miss we started laughing for no reason. But as we get closer to the hall doors I can’t help but hope that school was cancelled today even though I’ve already seen everyone go to school.
