The man in black gestured for us to follow. We followed him deep into the forest. I was so tried but I trudged on. We where walking for a good hour or more when I was almost ready to give up. I felt like I was about to collapse when we finally saw a small house. The man finally took his mask off. He had short blond hair and piercing blue eyes.
"Sorry I was so rough" he apologized in his Australian accent.
"Steven?" Joshua asked the man.
"Yup" said Steven with a shrug.
They bro hugged. I just stood staring.
"So who's this guy now?" I asked.
"Oh sorry" Steven apologized, "I'm Steven, I'm your cousin"
"Oh" I sighed as I shook his outstretched hand. I was going to have to get used to meeting people who I don't remember.
"The doctor is waiting for you inside. I assume you brought whatever he is looking for?" Steven said to Joshua.
"Yes" Joshua replied.
"He wouldn't tell me what you where delivering to him but he said it was important" Steven chuckled, "well the doors unlocked so go right In"
Doctor? Looking for somthing? What? I don't like doctors. I don't like anything to do with them and I don't like shots. I don't want to go in there!
"Thanks" Joshua replied and led me and Marcus into the tiny old house.
"Josh what's going o-" I started to ask but he cut me off,
"Shhh..... Just trust me." He whispered.
I decided to trust him. After all he was my brother. Marcus shot a nervous glance at me as we cautiously followed Joshua into the dark old house. I shot him an equally nervous glance. I too had no clue what was going one. Josh came to a room and stopped. It had some kind of hand scanner. He put his hand on it and his name and a picture of his face popped up on the small screen. I heard the faint 'click' of the door unlocking. Josh pushed it open. I was amazed at what I saw! The room was so drastically different than the dingy, dark, old house. It was a clean beautiful white room. I mean I don't like white because.... Well being held in a white room will so that to you.....but it looked beautiful compared to the grunge of the house. We walked inside. A man was hunched over his work with his back turned towards us. I looked around. The room was filled with test tubes and beakers full of liquids of every color.
Joshua cleared his throat to get the mans attention. The man turned around and peered at us. He looked like Steven but older.
"Hello josh!" He greeted Joshua and stood up. When he looked at me his eyes widened.
"Experiment X?" He whispered to Joshua.
A smile crept onto Joshua's face as he nodded. The man looked at Marcus.
"Experiment X2!" He gasped.
Ok so apparently he are "experiments" ........great
The man introduced himself, "my name is donnavan. I'm your uncle."
"Ok" I shrugged. Yay!!! I finally met another crazy family member!!! (Not)
"I have a place for you to stay, as you are all probably very tired. But first I will need a blood sample from you both." Uncle Donavan said as he ran around the lab collecting various things.
I glanced at Marcus. I could tell he shared my fear and dislike of needles because he looked terrified. Uncle Donavan got the blood sample from me first. I let him do it without fighting back. He put it in a test tube labeled "Experiment X". I was calm. Marcus in the other hand shrank into the corner and covered his arm.
"Common it won't hurt just give me your arm" uncle Donavan tried to convince him but he shook his head. It was kinda funny because Marcus was really brave...... Just not around needles. It was kinda cute to see him so helpless like that.
"Wait uncle Donavan" I said.
"Just call me uncle d" he replyed.
"Ok uncle D" I restarted, "lemme do it"
I grabbed the syringe and crouched down next to Marcus. He turned his head and squinted his eyes closed. I gently took the sample from his arm and gave it back to uncle D.
"So wasn't so bad uh?" I asked. I had to hold my breath to keep from laughing. He was such a baby when it came to needles.
"Oh you did it?" He asked. He blushed. I could tell he was embarrassed so I decided not to rub it in anymore.
Josh led us out back to the house. We took quick showers and ate sandwiches. I found a room with 3 musty old mattresses laying I the ground.
"I guess its better than nothing" Marcus said as he plopped down onto one of them.
I shrugged and plopped down on another one. At least we had somewhere to stay.
