Hamish and his family live in a peaceful country when all of a sudden a war arouses. Hamish fights to have his siblings safe from wars harm.

In search of his aunt to stay away from wars harm he soon discovers that this 'visit' will be longer than he planned.

1. The Escape

We ran out of the house straight for the bomb shelter, my mother and father not that far behind me. I ran inside to see my sister and two brothers safe. My father clambered in and fell to the ground. I heard a loud crashing sound and knew that any moment now, a bomb was going to go off. I clambered to my younger brother and held him tight. He was crying and shaken, he looked pretty scared. “It’s ok Thomas, you’re safe and were here to protect you,” I explained.

Dad started a head count, “One… two… three… four….. Where’s your mother?” No one knew.

“I’m going to go look for her, if anything happens, Hamish I want you to take your siblings to Switzerland and find your Aunt. her address is on the wall. There should be enough money in that draw to travel over,” he included.

“I will not fail you father, I promise,” I proclaimed.

Then in a flash he was gone. I looked around the bomb shelter. There were a set of bunk beds on both the left and the right wall. There was a double bed at the end with a small bedside cabinet on the left. There were paintings and paper stuck all over the walls. Willow was over on the double bed holding Thomas. She was trying calming him down. He was in tears. “Willow are you alright?” I asked.

She nodded still holding Thomas in her arms. Edward was near the bunk bed on my left. “What about you Edward?” I added.

He started getting teary so I went over to comfort him. I tried to tell him that we were safe but he started questioning me about it. He is one smart cookie, for an eight year old. My father did not come back so I had to expect the worst. I decided to put Thomas and Edward to bed, Thomas would not let go of me.   I cuddled him tight before Willow sang to him, her lullaby. She had the voice of an angel, it definitely calmed us all.  It was a lullaby that my mother used to sing to us when we were younger:

Sleep, my child, and peace attend thee,
All through the night
Guardian angels God will
 send thee,
All through the night
Soft the drowsy hours are creeping,
Hill and dale in slumber sleeping
I my loved ones' watch am keeping,
All through the night

Angels watching, e'er around thee,
All through the night
Midnight slumber close surround thee,
All through the night
Soft the drowsy hours are creeping,

Hill and dale in slumber sleeping
I my loved ones' watch am keeping,
All through the night

I explored the bomb shelter further , there were some old things in here. I found the piece of paper on the wall with my Aunt's address.  I hope that she still lives there. Willow came up behind me “So, what we do now?” she asked.

“Well, the only thing we can do.  Go to Switzerland. We will head off tomorrow morning, if all is safe.” I explained.

She nodded and walked over to the bedside cabinet. She opened a draw and her big beautiful blue eyes light up. It was such a beautiful sight at this dreadful hour. She signalled me over.  Inside was a picture of Willow, my parents and I.  It was taken when Willow was no older than five. That was over eleven years ago. My mother was fairly young in the picture, her beautiful blonde hair was flowing in the wind. Her beautiful blue eyes were looking over in the distance. Her smile was big and bright.  Her arms were wrapped around my father. He looked different, He had short brown hair and big brown eyes. His mouth was quite big and pink. He was of a bigger build and healthier looking. On his shoulders was Willow, with the widest grin across her face. Her big blue eyes shine bright in the sun light and her long brown hair swaying in the wind. Standing next to my father was me. I was smiling.  My brown eyes were gleaming.  My short blonde hair tussled by the wind.

I saw that Willow  looked tired, she needed some rest. I would take the first watch while she slept.  She clambered into her bed and fell asleep. I examined the piece of paper with my Aunt's address on it closer:

Macey Baize

            Apartment room 7

Justingerweg 18, Bern, 3005, Switzerland

I tore it off the wall and placed it on top of the cabinet. I explored the cabinet more.  In the bottom drawer were some clothes that my parents must have stocked up on every now and then. I turned around to see Thomas starting to get teary again and he started sleep talking. I made my way towards his bed and sat beside him. He jolted up and turned to see me.  He hugged me so tight, I could barely breathe. He would not let go so I cuddled him back to sleep.
