2. We've Arrived
We made it. It took forever to get out of the airport. But eventually we did it. We got a cab and my mom gave the driver our new address. I haven't seen the house yet so I was kind of excited to see it. The car ride was about forty five minutes long. My mom slept through most of it.
The driver told me that we had arrived. When i looked up I got confused. This couldn't be right. This place was humongous. How could we afford this? I turned to the side and nudged my mom. She woke up and looked at the house. She immediately started smiling. I asked her " are we in the right place?" She simply just nodded.
At the same moment I noticed that there was two cars in the drive way. " Who's cars are those?" Right when I said this the smile left her face. This smile was replaced with a worried look. "What's wrong?" I asked. She then looked away and continued to say nothing. After about three minutes the cab driver interrupted the silence by saying " are you going to pay me or not cause I charge by the minute?"
My mom silently pulled out a fifty dollar bill, told him to keep the change, and got out of the cab. I followed her to the trunk and helped her get the luggage out. When we were finished the cab drove away. My mom finally broke the silence by saying " I've been meaning to tell you something and I'm not sure how you're going to react."
At this point I was scared to death. I had no idea what was about to come out of her mouth. But I had a feeling I wasn't going to like it. She finally came out and said " this isn't just our house." I just stared at her confused. What did she mean
by that? "This is my fiancés house," she continued.
I was shocked. So many questions were going through my head at the moment that I forgot to say anything. Her face dropped. But she also had a look on her that she kinda knew this would happen. I didn't know what to say. Part of me wanted to be happy for her and the other part wanted to scream at the top of my lungs. I finally said something. "Wow." Her facial expression immediately changed to confused.
I guess she was wondering why I wasn't yelling at her. I was kinda wondering the same thing. But instead I just started walking to the front door of the house. My mom slowly followed behind. When I finally reached the door, I rang the bell....
