It was now Tuesday 27th July. A normal morning really.
"Come on Alex, get up. It's already 10 O'Clock." Shouted Sister Louisa. I groaned and shoved the covers off my body, the damn cold air hit me.
"I'm up!" I yelled back. She walked away from the door and I pulled on a random jumper and my cool lion feet slippers. I ran out of my door and down the stairs where we ate breakfast. "Morning All!" I cheerily greeted. I laughed as I got a round of 'shut ups' from the older girls.
"Please sit down Alexis, get some breakfast please. Then you can have your post." Sister Marlene ordered. She's quite strict. OMG! I've got post!!
"I've got post?!" I squealed.
"Yes, now eat." I grumbled and shoved some toast in my mouth and ate really quickly.
"Your such a pig Alexis." Sneered Diana Vicks. She's 14 and thinks she's the queens daughter.
"Shut up Diana. I don't need to eat toast with a knife and fork." I spat back. I jumped from my chair and ran around the orphanage to find Louisa.
"Louisa! Louisa! LOUISA!" I yelled.
"I'm here in the bathroom Alex!" I smiled and ran down the hall and into the bathroom.
"I have mail! Louisa I have mail!"
"Really? That's great. What is it?" She asked. I suddenly frowned, I didn't actually know.
"Oh, I don't know yet. Sister Marlene made me eat first. She's still got it."
"No worries dear. Come on, let's go and find your letter." She held out her hand and I grasped it and tried pulling her along. "Calm down Alex. No need to pull my arm off." Louisa chuckled.
"Sorry." I smiled at her and carried on pulling. We finally made it downstairs and we found Marlene and went over to her. "Now can I have my letter?" I whined. She raised an eyebrow at me. "Please?"
"That's better. Now stop treating Sister Louisa like a rag doll and I shall get your letter." She walked away and I grinned at Louisa.
"She loves me really." We laughed. After a pain staking minute Marlene placed the letter in my hands. It was a weird yellowing paper which felt more like card. There was swirly green lettering on the front and a weird wax seal saying 'Hogwarts' on the back.
I turned back to the front and it said,
MISS. ALEXIS JAYMEE BLACK,
THIRD FLOOR BEDROOM,
LADY MARYS ORPHANAGE,
I marvelled at it and then it was snatched out of my hands.
"What's this then?" Asked Casey Leigh, a 13 year old girl who's room is opposite mine.
"It's my letter. Give it back!" I growled at her. I heard the doorbell but just ignored it. Casey was always tormenting me and I hated it. We had had countless rows and fights.
"Aw, little Alex is mad." She cooed. God I could so smack her face right now.
"Just give it back. It has nothing to do with you!" I spat. She always ruins my happy moments.
"What's Hogwarts?" She quieried. "And how the hell do they know what bedroom you sleep in? They sound like freaks already, just like you!" She jeered. I growled lowly and then smiled sweetly at her.
"Just give the letter back Case. You know it's not wise to get me angry." I walked towards her and I chuckled as fear flicked across her face.
"Shut up Black. I don't care, I'm older and stronger than you!" She argued. "Poor thing, did you think the letter was from your parents maybe? They left you didn't they? Poor Alexis Black. You just weren't wanted, my parents actually loved me." She sneered.
"Well your stupid parents are dead! I feel slightly better in the fact that I have never actually known my parents. You watched them die didn't you? Watched them burn." I smirked as she lunged at me. I moved out of the way and she landed on the floor.
"I told you not to anger me Casey. You never listen. Now. Give. Me. My. Letter." I growled in a deadly voice. She jumped up from the floor and grabbed the letter from the floor.
"Don't insult me Black." She smirked and ripped it clean in half. I swallowed the lump in my throat as she ripped it again and again. (Little did I know that two people had been watching from the doorway since she first snatched the letter).
"Stop that." I asked quietly.
"Why should I? You insulted me, you don't deserve anyone to contact you, no one else gets letters in this place." I made some sort of weird strangled noise and lunged at her. My hands grabbed her hair and I kneed her right in the face.
"Don't mess with me you stupid cow!" Two strong arms grabbed my waist and hauled me backwards but I didn't let go of her hair.
"Alexis Jaymee Black! Let go of Casey!" I heard Louisa yell. Casey was holding my wrist and trying to pull my hands away from her hair but I let go and then kicked her in the stomach. She landed on her butt and I laughed at the look on her face.
"You'll regret that you little freak." She quickly ran out of the room and Louisa stood in front of me and crossed her arms. Who the hell is holding me then?
I looked down at the arms and they were clad in black but the hands were kind of large and pale. I guessed it was a man. He released me and walked around and stood in the same position as Louisa. Their eyes bore into mine and I looked down.
The man had shoulder length black greasy looking hair, hooked nose and a black suit with a black shirt.
"Explain yourself Alex." Louisa sighed. I shook my head and looked up at her disapproving eyes. "So you did it for no reason?"
"She insulted me." I virtually whispered. I can smart talk and back chat anyone if I get in trouble, but Louisa always makes me feel different.
"You should know better than to act against that girl. I know you have trouble controlling your temper, but you need to. You will only get in trouble if you don't."
"I'm sorry Louisa. She ripped up my letter as well."
"I understand Alex. Don't explain yourself, me and this man here saw it all. Both of you were out of line." I just nodded. "Good. Now surprisingly enough, this man is here to see you." My ears perked up at that. Who would want to see me?
"Really?" I grinned. I looked at the man.
"I'm Severus Snape. I have come to talk to you about the letter you received this morning. As I have seen though, I believe you haven't read it." His voice sounded like he really didn't want to be here.
"Yeh. Stupid Casey decided to rip it up as you saw." He turned to Louisa.
"Is there anywhere that we can talk privately?"
"Yes sir. This way, come on Alex." She put her arm around my shoulders and we walked to Marlene's office. She sat in the office chair and I took a chair in front of the desk and so did Mr.Snape. "Shall I leave or stay?"
"You may stay Sister." Mr.Snape spoke.
"Ok then. Any drinks or anything sir?"
"No thank you." He turned to me and looked me straight in the eyes. It was really creepy. He had the deepest black eyes ever. "I have to talk with you."
"I gathered that." I rolled my eyes. He scowled at me but continued.
"It's about that letter. Luckily for you, I have another one with me." He took out an exact replica of the other letter and handed it to me. I finally get to open the damn thing! Yay!
I carefully turned it over and opened up the letter. It was quite chunky and actually had three things inside. I read the first letter in silence while Louisa and Mr.Snape watched me.

I threw the letter to the floor after I saw the stupid train ticket. I have been to kings cross many times and have never seen a bloody platform 9 3/4.
"What a load of rubbish! Do you really expect me to believe this?" I asked and pointed to the letter on the floor. Mr.Snape glared at me and picked the letter up.
"It is all true Miss.Black." He droned on. "Your mother and father were both witch and wizard." He knew my parents?!
"You know who my parents are?"
"No I don't, but our records state what blood status you are and also what blood status your parents are." He explained. What is blood status? I'm confuzzled!
"Right. I still don't believe you. Prove it then." I stood up and crossed my arms stubbornly. This guy is not going to fool me. He stood up and looked at Louisa.
"Im afraid you cannot tell anyone about this occurance Miss.Stone." He spoke sternly.
"I do not wish to Professor." She winked. "I am a squib and have lived with the secret all my life." Ok, what's a squib? This is getting more complicated.
"Ah I see. Very well." He looked back at me and pulled out a wooden stick. I burst out laughing and Louisa and the guy just looked at me funny.
"That's a bloomin stick!" I laughed.
"Just shut up and watch." He hissed. Someone's got a temper problem. He waved the stick and the lamp on the desk moved upwards. I gasped and stared at it with wide eyes.
"What?" Was all I said. He made the lamp float back to the table, pocketed his stick and sat back down.
"It's magic Miss.Black. Do you believe me now?" I looked from him to Louisa and back. She was smiling widely at me and nodded her head.
"Yeh, I guess. I just don't get it though. Why am I only finding out about it now?"
"I don't have an answer for that. You are a witch and have been accepted to the school. I'm the potions professor there. You learn to control your magic." I just nodded, not knowing what to say. "Has anything weird ever happened around you?"
"Yeh. I turned Louisa's hair blue once." I laughed. Good times. "I also accidentally made a mirror fall on one of the sisters here, I was about seven at the time. Vases have exploded and stuff when I'm angry."
"There's your answer. I need to go now. Someone will be here in about a month to take you and buy the stuff on that list."
"Thank you ever so much for coming Professor." Louisa said as she shook his hand. He just nodded.
"Yeh thanks." I pitched in. "I guess I'll see you at school then."
"Indeed." He then just disappeared. I blinked a couple of times and Louisa chuckled.
"It's called dissapariting Alex. It's a magic thing." She grinned at me.
"I can't believe you've known about all this magic stuff and never told me." I pouted. Is known Louisa all my life and she has never told me about this wicked thing.
"I wasn't allowed Alex. I didn't know you were a witch. You will love it at the school Alex. My parents and my brother Samuel were always telling me stories about the place. I always wished I could go but it doesn't matter now." She put her arm around my shoulders and we started walking. "Let's get you some lunch then shall we?"
"Definitely. I only ate a bit of toast this morning!" I need food right now! "I can't wait until next month. I hope the person is nicer than that guy though, what a grump." We both laughed and walked down to the dining room.
A/N -- Any thoughts so far??
I hope your liking it at the moment.
