I sat on the bed with both of my hands crossed over my chest as I looked over at the girl that was lying on my bed beside me. Her eyes were lightly closed peacefully. She was lying very still; the only sign of life is her light breathing and her chest slightly moving up and down. I ran my fingers through my hair in frustration. What am I going to tell Ethan and Shania? They aren't going to like the fact that I showed her what we really are.
And more importantly, what am I going to tell this girl? She looked so innocent, so pure and sweet. I don’t think she’ll take this entire thing well.
I continued to watch her for a few minutes, nothing changed. I walked out and went downstairs to the kitchen, if you could call it a kitchen. Because when I walk in, I almost start to doubt if I was in the right room. The kitchen was a mess, pots and pans were everywhere, food was on the ground, things were scattered everywhere, and I’m pretty sure I even smell the scent of burnt meat and ashes. Shania was sitting by the kitchen table with her arms crossed and a small smirk on her face. Ethan on the other had used his puppy expression and he was on his knees in front of her.
“Wow man, you’re so whipped.” I chuckled.
As soon as Ethan heard my voice, he immediately stood up and gathered himself. “Ahem, uh, what?” he cleared his throat.
Shania also stood up and softly giggled as she stood on her tippy toes to pat Ethan’s head like a puppy. “This guy here was annoyingly ordering me around in the kitchen. And soon I realized, why am I always the one to clean and cook?” Oh, I know what she is getting at. “So I decided to let Ethan boo take care of breakfast for himself this morning.” she said proudly. “And as you can see, its obvious that you boys need me more than anything.” Shania gloated.
“Alright, alright Ms. I’m-so-awesome. Would you please stop bragging and move your little arse over to make me some food?” Ethan mocked playfully.
Shania continued chuckling to herself as she gave him a peck on his cheek and skipped over to work.
I shake my head with a small smile on my face and head to the living room with Ethan following behind me. We lazily crashed on the couch and Ethan reached for the tv remote to turn on the tv.
A soccer game between Brazil and Germany was on. Suddenly, the screen started to flicker black and white rapidly. "What the hell? Ethan what did you press? That was an amazing match, turn it back on!" I yelled in protest.
"Um, that wasn't me man." Ethan replied warily with his eyes squinted in confusion.
All of a sudden, a clip started playing. "You shouldn't have messed with me Hayes, you practically asked for this." Vincent's raspy voice seethed through the speakers. The camera started to shake and wobble for a while and then it was focused on a pile of something dangling by the ceiling. Ethan's eyes were wide with shock, worry,and...pity? Once again I stared at the screen for a better view.
And right at that moment, my heart stopped. Mentally and Literally.
I felt like my heart was beating un-normally fast, the speed of its beating increasing more and more by each second. I felt like I needed more air. The tips of my fingers were tingling like fire crackers. I could hear the each ticks from the clock. The sound of sizzling from the bacon and eggs filled my ears. Ethan's constant fidgeting on the couch as he waited for me to explode. And the horrible sound of the evil man's arrogant cackle.
Tick tok, tick tok, ssss, fidget fidget squeak, hahahahahaha,
Was that Elizabeth?
tick, sss, tok, fidget, tick tok, squeak, hahahahahaha, fidget,
Why was she hanging from the celling?
Fidget fidget, tick tok, hahahaha, sss, hahaha, sss, squeak, hahahaha
Why was she laying limp soundlessly and motionlessly?
hahahaha, hahahaha, hahahaha, hahahahaha, hahahahah, hahahahaha
And then everything snapped. I could hear the beat of the drums from my heart thumping abnormally slow. My breathing was once again calm and everything in my eyes seemed to be hazy and moving slowly. Ethan was on the edge of his seat, clenching his hands around each other nervously. Even Shania had come out from the kitchen. I felt like I was paralyzed. Did all of that really happen?
The sound of soft pads of footsteps came into my ears. I still wasn't able to process what is happening. Then, a loud astounded gasp came from behind me.
