It was 11:00! I ran into English huffing and puffing heavily. My annoying mother wouldn't give me a ride to school. We argued for 1 whole hour! But I guess part of it was my fault, I shouldn't have continued that foolish argument and wasted my time. I had a horrible morning, there was no more food left in the kitchen and apparently I was suppose to buy some yesterday. So I had to run to school with an empty stomach. To make mattes worse, it was raining today and I forgot to bring an umbrella so I dashed down the street as fast as I can. When I had gotten to the front gates of the school my hair was all in clumps and I bet my whole look was a disaster. The guard seemed to have the same thought because he had blocked me from going into the school and questioned me. He actually thought I was about to break in without permission! Adults nowadays, they never seem to trust us kids anymore!
I quietly slipped into the classroom, luckily Mr. Wattson had his back turned to the board. I quickly scanned the room for seats in a brief second before the teacher turns around and scolds me in front of everyone. There weren't any seats left besides the desk near the back. With no choice I walked to the table. But just as I was about there I tripped over the leg of the guy next to me. Which led to me falling face down to the ground, my head was spinning for the next 30 seconds. The guy couldn't help but snicker loudly causing everyone to avert their attention to me. Oh great, I probably look like a complete idiot right now. Especially with this horrendous hair-do and clothes.
"Hey what was that for!" I exclaimed. I glared right at they guy who was biting his lip from laughing. Haha, real funny.
"Ms. Fray, thank you for being extremely late and distrupting the class from our very debatable discussion." Mr. Wattson scolded sternly. "But I know you are better than this, you are one of my best students so I will let you off the hook just this one time."
I said nothing and just smiled gratefully as a thank you to him. "Alright class, back to page 84!" he announced enthusiastically. Everybody groaned as they turned around to face the front again. I took out all my stuff and was about to take the notes I missed until I felt someone tapping my shoulders. It was the guy who I tripped over, yay! Note the sarcasm, I am in a really pissy mood today, I think you would understand. I looked at him and said, "What?"
"Uh, so it seems you've got quite a pair of clumsy legs on you huh?" the guy cleared his throat.
I huffed, "Well if it wasn't for you horrible posture, your ridiculously long legs wouldn't have been sticking out now would they? Which wouldn't have led to the following events that just happened." I snapped annoyed.
"Is it the time of the month again? Coz I can feel all your irritation from here." he replied cooed.
"Sorry, its just I'm having a bad day so far thats all. I'm not usually like this but today just isn't my day. So would you just leave me alone? I'm not in the mood for arguing." I explained softly. I sigh and buried my head in my arms as I lay on the table. I felt a light tap on my shoulders to see the guy giving me the 'watch this' motion.
He put his hand over his mouth and coughed "penis" and then came a long, disgusting, and embarrassing fart. Everyone started bursting out laughter and pointing to who they thought was the culprit. I rolled my eyes at how old and kidish this trick was. Yet I couldn't help but crack a small smile at the corner of my lip. "That was so totally immature!" I laughed out. "I thought someone like you would think of a way better prank than this old thing."
"I could have, but I am saving them for later." he winked. "At least I got you to smile a little, now your day wouldn't be as bad as you thought it would be." he shrugged. "I like you by the way, wanna be my new best friend?" he smiled cheekily.
"Haha, I like you too." I reassured him. "I'm Emily by the way.
"Ethan. Hey, next block is lunch would you like to sit with me and my friends?"
"Um..." I mean its always good to make new friends right? Oh wait but I can't, I still have to watch Olivia's drama performance. "I'm so sorry! I am not available this lunch, I have to watch my friend's performance. Maybe next time?" I suggested.
"Sure, till we see next time then!" he said just as the bell rang. Then he was gone.
I quietly slipped through the audience as they watched inventively at the show that was currently going on. Olivia was doing fairly well in her play, she was Maria in The Sound of Music. I was planning on sneaking in to Olivia's changing room so that I can give her a little surprise and congratulate her on her performance before the mob of people get to her first. As I open the door, I saw a figure looming over all of Olivia's belongings which are placed at one of the corners of the room.
"Who are you? And what do you think you are doing?" I asked this stranger.
Turning around was a girl with dirty blonde hair and brown eyes as big as saucers. She let go of everything she was holding and gasped loudly. "I-uhhh-um.. I'mm n-o-" she stuttered. I raised my eyebrows at her suspiciously. "I was just going to put these back in Olivia's bag." she said weakly.
"Sure, like I would believe that!" I'm surprised when the words come out of my mouth less fierce than I thought.
"Sorry, I wasn't doing what you thought I was doing! I-I just wanted to--" she tried to say.
"How about we start off with your name?"
"Uh, I'm Shania." she said with the slightest of smiles.
I studied her for a second, besides I didn't want her to think I was some weirdo checking her out. She had dark brown hair with a bit of blonde in it. She was wearing a formal cream colored dress that let me know she was attending the show tonight. Her face didn't look any familiar to me. She was actually really pretty, you could tell by her voice and clothing that she is one of those people who are very polite and sophisticated.
" I think you should go now. I wouldn't tell Olivia this happened only because you didn't do anything yet. But the next time I see you in this room with Olivia's stuff I would surely tell her." I spoke in a calm tone.
She didn't say anything and just pressed her lips in a straight line. I gave her a slight nod as if to say she may go now.
I sighed as I ran my hand through my hair. What should I do? A good best friend would have told Olivia what just happened. But I did promise the poor girl thatI wouldn't tell. I took a deep breath to relax myself and then decided I wouldn't tell Olivia. Just this one time though. If we weren't meeting in this kind of situation I would actually quite like that girl. She gave off this soothing and patient vibe which was weird.
My train of thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the door opening. I turned around with a huge smile on my face and beamed at my friend. "Oh my gosh Olivia! You were amazing, I didn't even know you could sing like that. Everyone was watching you so seriously I thought their eyes would pop out from stretching their eyes that wide." I told her.
Olivia giggled a little. Then she said, "Thanks Emily, but I wasn't that good you're exaggerating."
"Thats what you say every time! I'm tired of you always denying yourself, it just makes you seem even better." I retorted as she rolled her eyes at my theory.
"Yeah yeah, have you seen Alyssa anywhere?" she asked.
"Oh so now you want to ditch me and hang out with Alyssa instead?" I gasped with fake offence. " Fine then, I'll leave. But remember that I still love you! Don't forget about me right when all your fans come charging at you." I headed to the door.
"No wait, Emily! Don't go yet, I want to spend my last moments of peace with my best friend." She called after me. But just then we could hear the rumbling of people's voices letting us know that the audience has already walked out of the auditorium. Which means its time for Olivia to get her self together and meet the people who watched her performance.
"Sorry, but duty calls. Hurry up, don't want to make them wait for you right?" I gave her a smile and then left her room.
As I walked out into the hallways of the school I noticed I still had time to grab lunch. Maybe I could still take the offer Ethan offered me. I heard someone squeal lightly behind me. I turned around to see Shania in Ethan's arms while he spins her around in a circle. They both wore big smiles and were looking into each other's eyes. It was beautiful actually, I hope one day I would be able to be with someone just like them; someone who I can look into their eyes and see what he feels for me and hopefully vice versa. I turned away quickly because I thought I was ruining their private moment. So I guess sitting with Ethan isn't a choice anymore.
Well, if I can't have a relationship in real life like that then I might as well just go into my fantasy world. In that world, everything was different. I usually just need a few minutes with a book to get lost in that completely different place. With that, I took my book out of my bag and headed for the big oak tree outside.
So this was also kind of like a filler chapter where I introduced the characters.
The real story and drama would begin soon so I hope you guys would stick around and read it
If you think this chapter was too short then you can tell me but personally I think a book should have chapters with different lengths. Not all of them have to be long and detailed.
