12. Valentines day dance invitation part 2

Ok so I accidentally just deleted the whole of this chapter so I am sorry, this was supposed to be up earlier, but here it is! :)

Hermiones POV

"Come on Ron!" I called over my shoulder at him as I walked briskly and at a quick pace up the pretty steep hill we were climbing. It was covered in springy green grass, and it was a beautiful sunny day, especially for November, even if there was a bit of a chilly breeze blowing on my face. Thank God I tied my hair up!

Ron and I had decided to go on an early morning walk, and I thought Ron wouldn't agree with me as he usually hates early mornings, but when I suggested the idea, he seemed all up for it, which was quite strange.

"It's so steep! My legs are tired!" I heard Ron shout up to me. I rolled my eyes and chuckled.

"You should be infront of me you know, with your long legs!" I yelled at him.

"It's just so early in the morning!"

I stopped.

"Then why did you agree to come with me?" I asked, genuinely curious.

He frowned a little, but didn't reply and carried on walking. I rolled my eyes again and continued up the hill. I soon made it to the top, and when I did, I bent over forwards with my hands on my thighs, breathing heavily. That was a very steep hill, and although I had climbed it many times before, I was obviously out of shape.

When Ron joined me he laughed at me but then patted me on the back. He then straightened up and looked around, his eyes widening. I grinned up at him.

"Woah! You can see everything from up here!" he said with genuine enthusiasm.

"I know right?" I said smiling smugly. "I usually come up here when I'm stressed or anxious because it helps me to relax. It's just so beautiful!"

I was right. As I looked out from over the edge of the grassy hill I could see the whole of Hogwarts castle with it's many towers and turrets, as well as the huge lake which sparkled in the sunlight and the stunning scenery that surrounded it.

I looked over at Ron and had to hide my blush when I saw that he was looking at me, a slight smirk on his lips. I looked away quickly, and nervously tucked a piece of stray hair that had escaped my pony tail behind my ear.

"Your right," he stated loudly, breaking the silence. "It is beautiful up here." I looked at him again and he still had his eyes on me, smiling slightly.

And then he took me by complete surprise by swinging his arms over my shoulders, like it was the most natural ad easy thing to do in the whole world to do, but then pulled both himself and I backwards and down to the ground. I screamed but we landed safely on our backs on the grassy hillside, facing the pretty blue sky. Then he burst out laughing and I mock scowled at him. I hit him lightly in the chest with the back of my hand and muttered "arsehole," but I still couldn't stop myself from smiling because I was just in a generally good mood, and also Ron still had his arm around me, meaning that we were extremely close.

We looked at each other for a moment, smiling like idiots and just enjoying each other's company, before we both looked up at the sky at the same time.

"I know," I squealed. "Let's play cloud spotting!"

Ron rolled his eyes light heartedly. but still said, "Okay, that one there looks like an odd teapot," pointing at a particularly large cloud. I nodded slowly.

"Yeah I suppose so, but to me it looks more like a big dog to be honest."

"Oh, my dear... YOU HAVE THE GRIM!!!!" Ron shouted at the top of his lungs, doing the best imitation of Prof. Trelawney that I had ever heard. I snorted very loudly and unattractively, and Ron laughed too. I couldn't help but feel happy.

Our cloud spotting game went on like this, wit me pointing out everyday objects in the clouds and Ron trying his best to turn them into bad omens, just like Trelawney would have done had she been playing. However after about twenty minutes, I decided that we should probably go back to the castle.

"Come on then, we better go," I said sitting up in the grass. However Ron put his hand on my shoulder and gently pulled me back down again.

"Hang on a sec," he said, sounding nervous. "I just want to ask you something."

I watched as his eyebrows knotted together and his ears started turning red. He looked away from me, and finally said, "Well, you know there is this Valentines day dance thingy coming up on the fourteenth?" he asked.

"Yeah," I said, excitement bubbling up inside of me.

"Well, I was just wondering if you knew anyone who you think I might like to go with?"

My heart dropped.

This couldn't be happening.

All my excitement suddenly plummeted down to my toes, and I had to look away for a moment.

Of course Ron wasn't going to ask me.

Of course he wasn't.

He didn't like me like that.

"Erm, well... I -" I tried to start, still facing away from him. I knew my face was still bright red with embarrassment.

And then he did something very unexpected.

He burst out laughing.

"BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! You should have seen your face!" he screeched.

"What?" I asked, bewildered.

"Oh my gosh, that was so funny!"

And then it hit me that he had been joking. Instead of relief filling up inside of me, I was hit by a tidal wave of anger. Well, it hadn't been very funny had it?

"Idiot," I said getting off my grassy little tuft and starting to make my way down the hill. Trust Ron to ruin the most perfect morning ever, with his stupid jokes. Stupid stupid stupid. I thought he had changed and grown up a bit, but obviously I thought wrong. He was still an immature, annoying, irritating little -

"Hey Hermione, wait up!" I heard him call. He had stopped laughing and was making his way down the hill.

"What?" I fumed angrily with a vicious look on my face. He looked a bit taken aback, but he still had an adorable cocky grin on his face.

"Will you go with me to the Valentines day dance?"

Wait, what?

Yes, of course!!!

Just as I was about to blurt out a yes, a sneaky idea hit me.

"No!" I said loudly, trying my best to still look very angry, although I was starting to feel quite elated and excited inside. "You had your chance and you blew it. Go and find someone else to ask!"

The cheerful look on Ron's face dropped to the ground immediately. Panic started to wash over his face as he started apologising straight away.

"No wait, Hermione... I'm sorry! I really am! I take it all back, and I promise to make it up to you somehow! I wasn't trying to be rude or mean or anything, I swear! It was just a joke and I'm sorry, so please go with me. I really really...... "

I couldn't hold it in any longer. I burst out laughing. "You should have seen your face!" I cackled imitating him.

"What?!" he said confusedly. And the he caught on. "That was not funny Hermione!" However, a small friendly smile was playing at his lips.

"Serves you right!" I joked. And then out of the blue I suddenly heard myself saying, "Of course I will go with you!"

He looked at me for a moment before he picked me up and whirled me around in the air. I was surprised at how strong he was, but I wasn't complaining.

After a minute or two he put me down, looking embarrassed and his ears were going red. However I just smiled and laughed happily. We looked at each other for a moment and my smile faded.

Oh my god.

Oh my god.

He was looking at my lips.

I was looking at his.

We were leaning in closer. Closer and closer. My heart was in my mouth, pounding so loudly and so hard that I was sure he could hear it.

Was this really happening?

Did I want to do this?

Right now?

"NO!" a voice somewhere in my head whispered.

I wasn't ready for this.

Not just yet at least.

However, instead of just pulling away from him and really hurting his feelings, I decided to play with him a little bit. I leaned closer and closer until our foreheads were almost touching and our breath was mingling. Then, I suddenly and very abruptly turned around, my hair swinging into his face and started running down the hill at top speed back to the castle.

"First one back to the castle wins!" I called over my shoulder.

Ron had tried to kiss me.

He wanted to kiss me.

Although I wasn't ready now, I knew that soon I would be, and I just couldn't wait!
