"Lacey, please be quiet!" I urgently whispered.
"Don't even dare" she snapped. "What do you think you're doing to my twin?!"
"You don't own me, Lacey" Hugo glared.
"This is disgusting! Sarah and dad are getting married! She'll be our sister!"
"Step, sister. It's not like we're related."
"You think dad will see it that way?!" she spat. "Or were you going to keep it a secret."
Lacey stared daggers at me.
"Until you became pregnant. Just like your mum. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, does it?"
"Don't you dare insult my mother!" I snarled.
"Lacey, you have no idea what you're on about" Hugo stated, calmly, only an undertone of anger in his voice.
"I'm telling dad."
"No!" Hugo and I yelped.
"We're going to tell him" Hugo blurted.
"Really?" Lacey sneered. "The only reason I would believe that is if she was knocked up. Is that why you wander off everyday?"
"We're virgins" I scowled.
She clenched her jaw and turned to Hugo.
"Tell dad by the end of the week, or break it off. If not, I'm telling him."
She stormed off back inside.
"Looks like dad and Sarah are getting a surprise this week" Hugo said, looking wide eyed and bewildered.
I inwardly sighed in relief.
We weren't breaking up then.
But I still cried myself to sleep that night.
