I sighed in relief as the bell rang for break. I felt like it was my entire class against me.
I wandered through the corridors and found Hugo leaning against some lockers.
I had never been so happy to see him.
"Hello" he smiled, his eyes widening now that he had seen me. I gratefully took his hand, and let the safe, warm feeling spread through my veins. We started to walk towards where Hugo told me would be our regular lunch time spot. We sat on a stone bench near the front gates.
"How was your morning?" I asked.
"It wasn't too bad!" he nodded optimistically. "I kept my head high and kept in mind that you were nearby. I did just what you said."
I needed to take my own advice. I was really worried about school already. Even though I should be used to all this by now, it never hurts any less. The constantly growing ball of anxiety in my stomach was already battling with the warm feelings I have when I'm around Hugo.
"Was your morning good too?"
I put my head down and bit my lip.
"Emily? Oh, honey, what happened?"
He pulled my into a hug and rubbed my arm. I rested my head against his chest, and listened to his heart beat.
I smiled. I still couldn't believe that there was room in that beautiful heart for me.
"What did they say?" he asked, brushing some of my hair behind my ear.
"I'm basically the laughing stock already" I sighed. My eyes widened. "And you wouldn't believe!" I added indignantly.
"Some girls asked me would I break up with you to go out with some random guy!"
Hugo's body jerked upright.
"What?" he asked angrily.
"I know! As if I would ever go out with anyone else."
Hugo's body relaxed by a fraction.
"How dare they" he scowled.
I giggled, and touched his face.
"Look at you getting all possessive" I teased. He smiled, and took the hair out from behind my hair again.
"Who wouldn't be with someone as perfect as you?"
I melted and blushed, and wondered how I wasn't a puddle on the floor. I looked up and we locked eyes, but then the bell rang.
"What a way to ruin a moment" I sighed.
"We'll meet here and walk home together, okay?"
"We have to move or we'll be late."
"You can do it, Emily."
He kissed my cheek, and I sighed as he left.
I eventually found my way to the right classroom. I sat on my tod in the front of the classroom again. I pondered as to why they even kept us in for the entire half day. They only gave us our timetables this morning, so no one had any books with them.
I started to get lost in the oblivion of my thoughts, until someone coughed, and someone mixed a word into that cough.
And that word was... Accident.
