I woke up the next day, feeling great. I knew I was going to meet Niall when I got to school. I quickly got dressed and ate my waffles.
As I picked up my backpack and headed for the door, my mom stopped me.
She said, "Lily, you are way too early. Eat some more waffles and make sure that you did your homework."
Lily groaned. The only thing that was in her mind was Niall.
She told her mother,
"Er, Mom, I need to go to school early because I have to do a science project."
Then, without a word, Lily ran out of the house. She slowed down when she was far away from her house.
Lily found a bench, so she sat down. She didn't want to go to school early anyway. She just didn't want Niall to think that she was a bad student.
She opened up her backpack and searched for her notebook. She took it out and started writing things down.
She wasn't a fan of writing, but sometimes, she wrote poetry and sometimes even how she felt about things.
She scribbled on her notebook:
Sometimes, if I feel excited, I make mistakes because I am overjoyed.
But if I make a mistake right now, Niall would see me.
I know he isn't here, but he might be...
And besides, since when did I care about guys?
I really have no clue to deal with them.
Lily looked up in the sky, then at her notebook. She stood up and started to walk. She might go to school late if she spent too much time sitting around.
She was near the front doors when she spotted Niall. He was talking with John Nelson. Lily laughed as she remembered the time when Mariana had loved John.
John used to like Lily when they were in third grade. But when Lily kept saying no to him, John gave up and started to make Lauren Jackson his girlfriend.
She decided to not bother them. She walked into the school building. Kids were everywhere. But Lily could spot Mariana.
She caught up to her and tapped her on the shoulder. Mariana turned around, looking annoyed.
Lily said, "Hey, Mari. Are you still mad because of Luke?"
Mariana didn't say a thing.
Lily coaxed, "Come on, there are better boys than Luke!"
"Luke was perfect! And he hates me!!"
Lily said, "Not really... He just dislikes you."
Mariana snapped, "It's the same thing!"
Mariana said, "I guess that Niall kid is okay... He is cute."
Lily gulped. She didn't know what to say. She was the one who liked Niall. Niall had to be her boyfriend.
She didn't say anything.
Mariana said, "You got to admit, Lily, Niall is super cute."
Lily replied, trying to not sound suspicious,
"He's okay, I guess."
Mariana said, "I'm going to ask him if he want to go to a cafe with me after school."
'Ah,oh! She might find out!'
But it wasn't the end of the day yet... She would find a way.
Niall walked to Lily. Mariana blushed. She hid her face behind her books.
Lily waved to Niall.
"Hey, Niall. What's up?"
"Not much, Lily."
Lily said, "Wasn't the homework hard?"
"I was a bit confused. But I did all of it."
Lily and Niall walked away. Mariana dropped her books and stared at them. She never guessed that her best friend, the girl who was never interested in boys, was Niall Horan's girlfriend.
