After around an hour, Rebecca had grown silent. I chewed my lip in worry.
Jeff looked at me. "20 bucks says that as soon as I open the door, she charges me." He held out his hand. "Do we have a bet?"
I smiled. "You and I both know that she will charge. What's the point?"
He shrugged. "Well I get 20 bucks out of it."
"Alright, I'll give you that."
He smiled in a way where his gums showed and his eyes scrunched closed.
"Isn't that adorable." I smiled.
"I'm not supposed to be adorable." He pouted.
"I know right.... So how in the world do you manage it?"
He sighed and removed his foot from the door. He stood and slowly turned the doorknob to open it. Sure enough, Rebecca charged right at me, knocking me to the ground. She grabbed a fistful of my hair and began to pull. I bit into her arm hard and felt myself drawing blood.
"OW! WHAT HAPPENED TO NOT HURTING ME MARLEY?!" She screamed.
"You have a handful of my hair." I said calmly.
"YOU LOCKED ME IN A BATHROOM!" She yelled.
"You were going to go to the cops." Jeff said and lifted her from me. She didn't release her grip of my hair.
"Hey, um...can you let go of my hair?" I asked.
Reluctantly, she released it.
"Thank you." I said rubbing my scalp.
"Promise that you won't hurt me?" She asked, her head whipping from me to Jeff and then back to me.
"Of course we won't." I said, then after a moment, added: "Right Jeff?"
"Huh? What? Could you repeat the question while I (in not any way suspicious at all) reach for my knife?"
"Jeff." I growled. Rebecca's eyes widened.
"Of course I won't. Gosh. It's like you don't trust me at all. What reason do you have for not trusting me?"
I narrowed my eyes.
He snickered. "Right."
