45. Chapter 45
I woke up alone. I sat up and looked around the room, finding it empty. I swung my feet over the edge of the bed and walked out of the room. The door was slightly cracked and I knew that meant Andy had left for downstairs. He knew I hated sleeping with the door open.
As soon as I widened the door, the smell of bacon and eggs wafted into the room. I bounded down the stairs and came to a stop at the bottom step.
Andy stood in the kitchen over the stove.
"Hi." I said softly. Then was unsure if he could hear me because of how quiet the noise was.
But he did.
He turned around and smiled at me. Then a poker face. "Morning. Want something to eat?"
I nodded and walked towards him. He handed me a plate piled with food. I sat at the counter and started to eat. He stared at me, making me uncomfortable.
"Why are you staring at me?"
"No reason." His lack of emotion kind of scared me.
"Andy..." I didn't know how to ask him. "Are you lying about being mad?"
"Are you lying right now?"
"No." He didn't laugh.
"I feel like you are." I tried for a smile. Nothing.
"Well you're mistaken. I told you that I'm not and that's the truth."
"But you're hurt."
That time, he paused before he answered.
"I told you, as long as you're happy, then I'm happy."
"But what do you want?"
"For you to be happy."
"Come on, Andy. Give me a real answer."
"What is it that you want? and don't say 'for me to be happy' because that's crap and you know it."
"Fine. Yes it hurt when I found out you cheated on me. I thought I could trust you. Guess not. And then it hurt when you wouldn't give me a straight answer. I wanted you to say 'Oh of course I love you Andy. I only love you. It was a mistake and I'm sorry.' " He snapped at me with his eyebrows together angrily.
"I am sorry." I said quietly, still sitting.
"What do you want, Alex?" He said, anger in his voice. Although it couldn't completely mask the hurt.
"I'm still figuring that part out."
"Do you even have the slightest clue? Because obviously, if you really loved me, you never would have kissed Bill."
I looked down at my plate. I knew who I loved. Wasn't that obvious? I just didn't want to hurt anybody.
"I do care about you Andy."
"Do you?" He sounded doubtful.
"Maybe I just- maybe...."
"I have to tell you something."
The ringing of my phone dragged me out of unconsciousness.
"Hello?" I said, putting the cold material to my face.
"Bill? It's Alex."
"Can we meet? I need to talk to you." I couldn't read the emotion on her voice.
"Of course." I said, slowly coming out of grogginess.
"I'll be over there in a few minutes."
The other line clicked as she ended the call.
I put the phone on the dresser beside my bed and stretched. Then crawled out of my blankets. I walk around the room lazily getting dressed and then I walked out of the room and down the stairs.
"Woah, it's a new record. Bill's up on his own. And at eleven?! Bill are you feeling all right?" Tom mocked shock and sat at the kitchen table, eating cereal.
"Oh shut it."
Soon there was a knock at the door. I pulled open the door and Alex stood behind it, looking troubled."
"Is everything okay?" I asked her.
"Fine.... No, it's not actually." She rubbed her eyes.
"Bill, who's at the door?" It was Tom.
"It's Alex. I be in in a minute." I walked farther out the door and shut it behind me.
"What's the matter?"
"I-..............." She paused for a long time. She looked like she forgot how to speak.
"I left Andy."
