Bright white light. Was I dead, going towards the light and passing on? Not getting to say goodbye to anyone I loved? Leaving them?
I turned my head and saw Derek, passed out on a chair and knew that I wasn't dead. Just in the hospital. A smile crept across my face. Until I looked down at my arms.
They were covered in bandages from my shoulder to my wrist, and underneath was no doubt the gouges left by the animals in the woods.
Without looking, I knew there were bandages on my legs and torso as well. Covering what I know will be ugly scars for the rest of my life. I'll never get to where a bathing suit again...
The door opened and a woman with curly brown hair and warm brown eyes came in. She had to be a mother. No way could she look so kind, if she wasn't a mother.
"Good to see that you're awake, Scarlett. I'm Nurse Melissa, how are you feeling?"
"A little sore," I admitted. "But I'm alive at least."
"You can thank Derek for that. If he hadn't found you, there's no way you could have lived through that attack." Nurse Melissa told me.
"I know. He called off the animals and carried me here. I owe him my life." I looked over at Derek again, another smile managing its way across my face.
"He called them off?" Melissa asked, I looked back over at her, she clearly didn't believe me. Not that I blame her, it sounds crazy even though I know its the truth. I don't even know why I said it.
"I did, actually. You know how, of course." Derek spoke, I hadn't even realized he was awake.
"She knows?" Melissa asked, though directed at Derek.
"She figured it out last night. Before she passed out." He explained.
"Not yet. But I will call them here. If she knows about me, she might as well know about them too."
"I could call."
Nurse Melissa left, and Derek got up, stretched and walked over to me. "How are you feeling?"
"Sore. But at least I'm alive. Thank you, again, for saving me and calling off those animals."
"Did you text my parents something, tell them I was staying at a friends house, give them an excuse at least? I really don't want them to worry."
"I did, I said that you were staying over at a friends house and that you'd call them after school to tell them if you were staying over again. In case you needed to stay another day here. I also called the school to tell them you'd be staying home today." Derek told me.
"Oh. You thought of everything, didn't you?"
"If the school called home, your parents would be suspicious, no?"
"True...But thanks. I would never have made it out of there if it weren't for you."
"That's the third time you've thanked me. I get it."
I smiled and the door opened. In came Scott, Stiles, Aidan, Ethan and two girls I'd never met. As well as Melissa. What were they all doing here?
