In a nutshell, I was lost. Not knowing which direction to go, I took turns and twists maybe where I wasn't supposed to, and light was fading fast. I had a flashlight on my phone, but my battery was dying and if it lost all the battery life, I'd be screwed.
I held my phone in the air, trying to catch a signal, but got nothing, I considered climbing a tree but I didn't want a repeat of the rope incident when I wouldn't have anyone there to catch me and keep my from cracking my skull open and then my body rotting and/or getting eaten by animals.
That's a great picture to keep in my head.
I pulled the beanie down further over my head in an attempt to keep out the cold night air but I had no success. The cold crept in and my teeth started chattering.
I stopped and scanned my surroundings, possibly locating a landmark or something, that I could use to find my way out. I didn't find exactly what I was looking for.
Glowing yellow eyes suddenly pierced the darkness and I screamed and backed up, hitting my back on a tree. The eyes watched me, not growing bigger, not getting smaller. Whatever animal it was, was just watching me, possibly going over the best ways to kill me.
I closed my eyes and slid slowly around the tree but when I opened my eyes, two pair of glowing yellow eyes greeted me. I took a deep breath, closing my eyes again, but was greeted with another pair of yellow eyes when I opened mine again.
I screamed again and turn and ran as fast as I could, knowing it wouldn't be good enough, but in the hopes I could at least make it out of the woods before getting killed so at least my parents could grieve me properly, find my body, have a funeral.
The earth greeted my back like a hard stone and sharp claws dug into my chest, sending shockwaves of pain through my body, and I screamed again. One paw raked down my torso, than the other. Paws with sharp claws raked down my legs, my arms and left red stripes down each length. And pain was all that greeted me.
A howl sounded in the distance, and I knew in my gut that more animals were coming. I would be dead before I saw the light of day once more. I felt cold tears fall from my eyes as blood did from the gashes, staining my clothes.
But the animals retreated. They left, without doing anything more to me. Than a face appeared above me. Derek.
"Are you alright?" He asked in a soft voice, that sounded so unlike the tones he'd used earlier. I shook my head. "I need to get you to a hospital. You're losing a lot of blood."
"I don't want my parents to worry." I managed to croak.
"Okay, I know what to do." He picked me up carefully and carried me through the woods. Suddenly something occurred to me. Why would an animal attack me, then get called off by its leader? How would that animal know that I wasn't supposed to be eaten?
I looked up at Derek. "I know what you are." I said, then gasped for breath. "You're a werewolf."
"Yes." Was his short answer. "And you're lucky I heard you scream or you'd be dead right now."
"Thank you." I said, and again gasped for breath.
He smiled down at me and then looked back up, continuing to walk. I let my head fall back and the blackness take over with the sweet relief from the pain.
