"You had plans Liam. If I had said something, do you think you'd be here right now? I couldn't hold you back, and I'm glad I didn't."
"I'd rather be with you." I took a step towards her, but she stepped back.
"Happiness Liam. It doesn't just happen over night."
"Yeah, like you and Louis." My words were no good. The only thing they did was turn her face sour, which concerned me.
"Louis is my boyfriend. I still wanted to be with you when we left, but actually spending time with him made me realize how much I want to be with him. When we got here and Louis met Jason they hit it off so well. I just kept thinking to myself, that should be you. You should've been Louis. You weren't though, and now it's too late." I died a little at the words 'too late'. She didn't really mean it did she?
"What do you mean?" I reached for her as she went inside.
"You can come inside if you want, meet your son, but there is nothing between us. I choose Louis." The screen door clicked behind her. I fell to my knees on the front porch and couldn't move for a long while.
"Liam, mate. You okay?" Zayn appeared behind the mesh.
"What's he like?" I asked, finally able to move my eyes from the ground to Zayn.
"Jason? He's just like you." Zayn spoke like he's known him forever.
"Good. Can we go now?" I stood up and started to walk away.
"Hell no. You just learned you have a son, and you're going to walk away from him?"
I looked at the house, then at my phone that was waiting to call a taxi.
I heard the click, but I kept walking. If I stopped, looked back, anything, I'd have to turn around. I was waiting to hear the door creak open. I was waiting for him to run after me, but he never did, and that hurt worse. I finally collapsed in a chair in the kitchen.
"You look a little pale hun. You alright?" My mom walked over to me. Her apron covered in flour and other powders, and now frosting.
"I'm alright. Jason, can I talk to you for a second?" My voice about cracked because of the tears coming. It didn't and Louis kept washing dishes, Zayn worked on the cake, and my mom had disappeared. Jason hopped off his stool that was between Lou and Zayn and walked over to me.
"What's wrong?" Even his sweet little voice reminded me of Liam's deeper one. And although he's never even left this state there was a dash of an English accent.
"You know that other boy that was at the door? He came with Zayn?" I pointed at Zayn and he nodded.
"Liam." He smiled at me, waiting for a praise for remembering the name.
"Yes, that's it. Well, you know how you've been asking about your daddy?" I tried to talk in a voice where I'd keep him interested. He nodded again and looked back at Zayn and Louis. Before I could continue I heard something hit the floor. I looked up to see Zayn left horrified.
"Liam is Jason's father?" Zayn seemed to be shock, yet everyone else tried to hold back their laughter.
"Yeah... Will you go check on him? He still hasn't come in." Zayn wiped the frosting off his hands. Then he was gone too.
I got lost in my thoughts after I watched Jason walk down the hall, but soon I felt a pair of cold, wet hands rest on my knees. I looked over at him with a half smile.
"What's up?" He set his head on his hand, I could feel the fluffy hair on my leg and it sent goosebumps up my whole body. When I looked back down at him, his eyes were closed.
"Just thinking." I sighed.
"I -" he began, but heard the door creak and Liam began to yell my name.
"Kayla. Kayla..." Over and over again.
"In here Liam." I yelled at him. I went to run my fingers through Lou's hair, but he was gone. I hadn't even felt him move. Where could he be?
"Kayla. Kayla. Kayla..." He repeated louder. He came into the kitchen. Zayn wasn't with him. He stomped up to me and started to shake me.
"Liam what is wrong with you?" I tried to pull away from him, but he was too strong. I could hear birds chirping, and I could see daylight in Liam's eyes.
"Kayla wake up." He shouted. I closed my eyes, and when I opened them I was somewhere brand new.
