I woke up. Dazed and confused and sweaty. Where the hell am I?! I realized, I was in my room. My ceiling fan above me whirled, spinning its white blades fast.
My mind went over the dream I just had. Drowning. I was drowning. The deep, murky water filled my lungs. Then he saved me. I wanted to die but he saved me. I couldn't remember his name or face. Why couldn't I?!
I decided to get up and get dressed. Even though my alarm hasn't gone off yet. My alarm goes off at 6a.m. Some days I wake up earlier and some nights I don't even sleep. The previous night I woke up at 2 and didn't want to go back to sleep. You can tell why.
"Brisa hon. You've got to sleep sometime." My mother kissed me on the forehead. I was standing up about ready to walk into the kitchen.
"Mom I can't. He is stuck in my head." I've told my Mom about the dreams. Only her and Liam. I can only trust them.
Liam is my best friend. Even though I've known my other friend since my 9th grade year. I'm a senior now and 17.
"Well don't be late to school." She hugged me before she walked out the door to leave for work.
I felt lonely. My house was empty except for my little brother Alex who was in the 6th grade. I sauntered to his door. "Alex." I knocked. No response. "Alex." I pounded. No answer. "Alex Shayne Coldman!" The door opened.
"What?" He seemed grouchy.
"Well grumpy. Get ready for school."
I looked down. He was dressed, "Well eat some breakfast."
"Fine." He walked out towards the kitchen. I went into my room to grab my phone and my keys. I have to drive Alex to school every day. That's the rule since I have a car.
I heard my phone buzz on my nightstand. My shitty phone. Which I don't really complain about until it doesn't work right. I don't blame my Mom and stepdad for not trying. There not exactly rich. But my older brother Tommy he helps out a lot. Even since his wife got pregnant.
I decided to pick it up before it went to voicemail. I thought it would be Clarissa. When I looked at the caller I.D I screamed, on the inside.
**Two years ago around Christmas**
It was a week before Christmas. Everyone was excited. I mean everyone. Even the Grinch's. I felt like this Christmas was going to change.
I was sitting down in a plastic chair teaching little special education kids how to sing Christmas songs. They were laughing and having a lot of fun. There was only 5 of them. I could handle 5. I think. I was by myself.
Then a guy, about my age I think, walked in with another kid. The kid didn't seem to have a mental or physical disease. But don't judge a book by its cover. The little boy came over and talked to me.
"Hi." He said.
"Hi." I replied in a sweet tone.
"What's your name?"
"Brisa Skye. Just call me Brisa."
"Well hi Austin. Were about to sing another song. You want to join?"
"Yes." then he sat down with some other children. The taller boy walked over to me and pulled up a chair.
"Hi." He had a british accent. Come to think of it so did Austin. They looked like each other. Are they brothers?
"Hi." I smiled. He was really cute.
"What songs are you teaching them?"
"Christmas ones." I replied.
"How about we sing Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer?"
"Hi Liam!" I yelled into the speaker.
"How was your flight?"
"Good! I got some shut eye."
"I bet you did. I can't wait till you come back home." I blurted. I really couldn't. Even though he just left.
"Me either. Did you have another nightmare?"
"Ya sadly. I can't go to sleep anymore. I'm afraid of drowning again."
"I'm sorry Bri. I'll be back in a couple of days. I'm just visiting my Mom and Sophia for Halloween."
"I know. Don't worry about me. Im fine."
"I'm sorry Bri. I got to go. I just found my mom and Soph."
"Ok. Tell them I said hi!"
"I will. Bye Brisa! Have a good day at school."
"Ugh. School." he laughed at me then hung up. Liam is my best friend. He works at the library so every day after school I go there to do my homework. But I won't go for a couple of days now that he's in England.
