Prez had been taken off guard for several seconds, just staring at the ring. It was silver, with a single sapphire in the center. The engagement ring she'd always dreamed of.
She managed to swallow the glob of Nutella before remembering how to think. She scrolled through the pros and cons rapidly, so fast she couldn't even understand them. Normally she was a slow and logical thinker when coming out of a shock, but oh Gallifrey why was this so hard. . .
"If it doesn't work out, we could always get a divorce. You're only fourteen, after all."
She couldn't tell, but that statement was more to appease Girlie than herself. When Prez fell in love, she fell hard and fast, and was unlikely to fall out of it unless the other person broke up with her.
So she mutely nodded.
Bill grinned and slipped the ring on her finger, pulling her into a tight hug that she returned with no hesitation.
She just barely managed to catch the look of pure fury that Girlie was shooting at Bill.
'CIPHER, THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!'
The intrusion was so sudden, violent, and unexpected that Bill had to force himself to keep his hold on his new fiancee instead of grabbing his head and crying out in pain. His eyes had turned completely coal black and he didn't answer for fear of making it worse. He half expected that the shout had echoed out of the range of just his mind it was so loud.
'JUST PROTECTING HER WAS BAD ENOUGH, BUT NOW YOU'RE GOING TO MARRY HER? YOU'RE MESSING WITH FATE TOO MUCH. SHE'S GOING TO DIE AT THIRTY FOUR WHETHER YOU WANT HER TO OR NOT. THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO PROTECT HER FROM US. YOU CAN PROTECT HER FROM BEAUFORTE ALL YOU WANT, BUT THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO AGAINST THE TIME COUNCIL! YOU CANNOT STOP US, YOU IDIOT TRIANGLE!'
Shaking, Bill blocked them out. He was in more trouble than he'd ever been in his life and he knew it. He'd seen the Time Council mad before, but never anything like this.
For the first time since he appeared in the Dreamscape millions of years ago, Bill was afraid for his life. Not only his, though . . . Prez and Girlie were in danger too . . .
What have I done?
He faintly sensed that Pine Tree and Shooting Star were returning to the Mystery Shack, and quickly released Prez. "I - I need to go. I'll see you soon. Love you."
Before he disappeared, he tried to telepathically threaten Girlie telling her that if she turned Prez against him there'd be nothing holding him back, but he was so shaken up that it didn't turn out even half as evil as he wanted it to.
He gave Prez a quick kiss and nodded to Girlie, and with a snap of his fingers Bill Cipher disappeared.
Prez fell back onto the air mattress, unable to do anything but stare at the ring in shock. She tried to convince herself it was just a temporary lapse of judgement, but it was impossible. She was engaged now. And she loved it.
About five seconds after Bill disappeared, the Pines twins entered the attic. After about ten seconds of looking at the Appleshine sisters' expressions, Dipper sighed.
"Okay, what did we miss?"
