I woke up on a bed in an unknown room. I felt as if I was dreaming but I knew I was awake. I was hoping that what happened last night was only a dream, but when I looked around the room I saw him; sleeping in a chair across the room. I had to get out of there. Quickly and quietly I slipped out of the bed, praying that the floor wouldn't creek underneath me. I tiptoed over to the door and slowly opened it without a sound. I slipped out into the hallway and headed towards the back door. I was getting close enough that I could almost taste the freedom. I reached out and unlocked the door, then twisted it....big mistake! An extremely loud alarm went off and the door went on lock down! I tried to open it but it wouldn't budge. Suddenly
I heard footsteps coming towards me. I turned around and saw him. He was coming at me with full speed. I ran to to then end of the connecting hallway and was brought to a dead end. I turned around and saw him coming. I slid down the wall and put my head in my hands, tears already forming in my eyes. But instead up getting hit I felt a warm touch on my shoulder. I flinch a little and the grip to my face gets stronger. "Hey...hey, it's alright, I'm not going to hurt you." His voice was so sweet and gentle. "Please look up." I stayed put for a minute then peeked through my hands. He chuckled and was smiling great big. "See, that's better. You can trust me uhm...what's your name?"
"Kai. Wow, that's a neat name." He said. "My names Harry." What is going on? Last night he was chasing me with a gun and now he's speaking to me as if he was a parent or something. "Listen, about last night...it wasn't what it looked like. I know you saw a lot but if you knew why it happened you would understand. I know you don't trust me but believe me when I say this. I would never hurt a girl, especially one as fragile as you." I glanced up at him and he grinned a little bit.
"But, you kidnapped me. And kidnappers are bad peopl-"
"No. Not all of them. I'm not."
"Then why did you shoot that poor man and my friend?" I asked.
"Hhhh.....how did I know you'd ask that?" He sat back against the wall next to me. "You see, I'm not like normal guys. My job is so confidential, anyone who sees would have to be well....killed. However I've never been brought to this circumstance with a girl." He concentrated real hard when he stated this. "I uhm...I'm a Spy, for the government. I go around and take care of people like the one last night. The kind of people that belong in nightmares. I know I may look scary and I know you don't trust me one bit. But, just know that you can. I'm not a bad person Kai, I get rid of the bad people." This actually made sense. I mean he hasn't hurt me yet, and he did have a pretty good story to back it up. However, I barely know this guy. I don't trust him. Not yet at least. After all, he did just kidnap me.
"When can I go back home?" I spoke quietly. His smile faded and he leaned his head back against the wall.
"Kai, uhm, hhhhh..." I knew this news wouldn't be satisfying. "I can't let you go back home. I'm sorry."
"Wha...? Why?! Just like you say I can trust you can't you trust me?! I'm not going to tell anyone you have my word!" Tears were starting to brim my eyes again.
"I do trust you, if it were up to me you'd be home in a heart beat, but, the government would find out and I'd be fired and you'd be hunted down, including your family. I'm sorry Kai, but I can't let you go back home. It's for your safety and mine."
I sat there for a while. Not knowing what to say or how to react. And Harry, he just kept his eyes forward, giving quick glances to me. I couldn't go home. I'd never see my family again and they would be so devastated. This can not be happening, my whole life just went down the drain. What's going to happen to me? Where will I even stay? "I-I have a q-question..." He looked over at me.
"Alright. What is it?" He asked as gently as possible.
"Uhm, where will I stay, or live? I don't have anywhere else to go.."
"Well, that's the thing. I can't let you out of my sight, soooo....you will live here, with me. I have a spare bedroom right next to mine." I stared at him for a while. He gave me a small apologetic smile.
"So I can never go back home?" I asked slowly.
"This is your home. Your new home. But don't feel like your a prisoner. You can go anywhere you want in this big house. I have a pool outside, a garden right next to the back door and a game room, home theater and more. Just, I ask you this one thing. Don't go down stairs." His facial expression was now a very serious one. I could tell he meant what he said.
"What's down stai-"
"Nothing! Nothing....it's just my work area and you don't need to go down there. Besides you have all the rest of the house to occupy yourself."
"Hhhh...so this is it? I'm never going to see my family or friends again?" I asked hopelessly. He shook his head slightly, looking down. "What will I do for clothes?" I asked a little nervously.
"Haha..." He smiled when I asked. "Well, I'll have to go and buy you some. What do you like?"
"Well, I'll pretty much wear anything. I'm a size small. And I wear a size 7 shoe..."
He grinned. "Alright, I'm going to run to the mall. I'll get you some clothes and shoes. But you will have to stay here. I'll set the alarm so no one can come in. And uhm, you can't get out...then you have the whole house to yourself." He grinned again.
"Okay." Was all I said. I was still in shock mode. I mean I would never see my friends or family again, my books, my room. I'll never gets to eat my moms cooking again. All of it was so sad. But, I'd have to deal with it I guess.
"Alright, uhm you have your own bathroom and closet. You have a tv in your room with some movies. I have to get some things out of my car for the library and then-" My head shot up.
"Library?!" I half yelled.
"Uh, yes I have a library. Why? Do you like to read?" He asked smiling.
"Yes! I love to read! I read my books all the time...oh, uhm well I did read my books.." I paused. All my books were at home and I would never get to read them again.
"Well, you can read any book you want in my library." He paused and I could tell he was thinking. "Do you wanna see it?" He grinned when I grew wide eyed and nodded yes. He stood up and handed me his hand. I hesitated. "It's okay, it's only a hand." I reached up and grabbed his hand and he pulled me up. I let go of his hand.
"Thank you.." I said quietly.
"Of course. Okay, shall we?" He asked motioning his arms down the hallway. I smiled and nodded my head. "Alright follow me."
We walked down tons of hallways and up a few stair cases. He was giving me a slight tour. Finally after a few minutes we came to a giant door and stopped. "Alright, ready for the sight of your life?" He asked. I only nodded. He slowly opened the door and we walked in.
It was amazing! Books everywhere! It had more books than our city library! There were two levels. The first one had nonfiction books. And the second was all fiction. I stood there a while and soaked it all in. "You can go look around." Harry said. I looked up at him and then smiled big.
"Okay." I then made my way to the stair case and walked up to the second floor of books. Looking around I saw so many books that I have read, and so many authors I recognized. After a while I came upon a lonely book shelf with about five books. I was about to move on when a Title caught my eye. 'My Captivator', I picked it up and read the back:
'While hanging out with her friends one night, Zoey witnesses something she would regret. A man ending the life of another. When the man finds out what Zoey has witnessed she is kidnapped by the man and is his prisoner. What she thinks will ruin her life forever, gives her hope and a new future. This life changing story will bring her through tears and suspense, but what she doesn't expect is to fall head over heals in love with, her Captivator.'
Wow...this book sure sounds familiar.. However I won't be falling in love with Harry. And my story probably won't have a happy ending. I took the book and walked back over to Harry. "What book did you pick out?" He asked smiling.
"Oh, uhm, The Life of Tom Sawyer." I lied.
"Oh, that's a classic! Do you like Mark Twain?" He asked me.
"Uhm, yeah, he's a good author." He then told me to follow him and we headed out the door. We made our way back through the massive house and back to my room.
"Alright. I'm going to turn the alarm on and then run to the mall. I'll be back in a few short hours. Don't do anything stupid and remember...stay away from down stairs." He spoke with a stern tone. "Understood?"
"Yes." I said. He then left and headed to the garage door. I heard him pressing some buttons and then he opened the door and left. I now had the whole house to myself.
