'OK...you've done many school shows before why would this one be any different?...Just because Tami will be there doesn't mean anything...well it does...no she's just one girl...there are tons of them out there.......but not like her...'
I was walking to the choir room for our after-school rehearsal. I had never been nervous about going before but now....this may seem trivial but i had just gotten a new haircut and I know that the other girls will like it...they always do but there was only one girl in that room I wanted to impress and it was her...
5 o'clock. Exactly.
I did a one sweep across the room to her usual spot.
She wasn't there.
I look over to see her sitting on a stool in the front watching with guarded eyes. She was smiling slightly and caught my eye smiling bigger. I looked closer to see how one of her eyes was bigger than the other and how the smaller one looked like she was wear too much black eyeliner. Then I realized she had been hit.
It was a black eye.
Our advanced choir class, is a show choir. Meaning we dance and act while we sing. This years "Hollywood Hurrah" show is Disney related, and is very fitting seeing how in March we will all go, plus the theater class, to Disneyland.
I took my place in the back-row with the basses, while Tami sat in front looking sheepish with our choreographer Kelly.
We have three medleys to sing. Beauty and the Beast, Lion King and the Disney Medley. I have always been an excellent dancer so it was easy.
We were given a short break and I went outside to see if Tami was out there.
I saw her sitting on the planter and walked over to her. She was surrounded by her friends who were questioning her black eye.
"I told you all I am fine." She said smiling. She didn't realize i was standing there yet.
"Well..at least tell us what happened." Bianca asked worriedly.
She sighed, "OK, Fine. But it is not a big deal." She looked over to where I was standing with my arms crossed waiting for her explanation. She smiled and my heart took off racing. "Actually...It's Johnny's fault..."
I stepped forward. "My fault?"
"Yes your fault..."
"How is it..." I was confused I didn't hit her in the head.
"Well you might not have done it but you were the reason it was done. Yesterday during rehearsal Kelly told us to sit down where we were and listen to her advice. So I sat down and listened. When she told us to go back up on the risers, I started to get up. What I didn't see was June. She was doing a back bend for Johnny and she slipped and fell on me. Her left hand shot out and hit me in the right eye and my head hit the cement. I went to the hospital after school where they confirmed that I had a slight concussion. So if she was doing that for your attention then it is your fault." She smirked and looked at my lost expression.
"Well then. I'm sorry?"
"You are forgiven." She smiled then it was gone. Looking up at me she stared at me questioningly. "Is that the best you can do?"
"I-I don't understand......I'm really sorry?"
"I meant with your dancing. You know the steps but you aren't into it. You are soo tall and have really long arms use them!"
"But if I use them, I might hit the ceiling!"
"Then hit the ceiling! Get into it. Right now your face is so lifeless. Put some expression into it and it will look great!" She smiled really big and stood up. Her hand shot up to her eye and she winced in pain.
It pained me to see her hurting like this.
A voice from behind yelled for everyone to come inside.
I followed Tami in.
