I hope she gets here soon
I think as I glance down at the ivory piano keys. I glance up at the door and back again. I breathe in deeply trying to relax.
A lot has changed since I've met her and in a lot of ways so have I. I still remember the day our paths crossed and since then she has changed my life.
It was lunch time and I was sitting in the corner of the choir/theater room. The campus supervisors wouldn't let me into the B-Building and my lunch was in my locker. I tried explaining to them that I was only going in there to get my lunch but they refused to let me.
So I decided to seclude myself from my two friends Mel and Lily. I didn't want to have to sit with them and say something I didn't mean.
I was sitting there when someone walked up to me.
"Johnny?" Asked a small voice.
"Yes?" I smiled and looked up.
It was Tami Ortega. A short Mexican girl with short spiky brown hair, brown eyes with green in them, full lips, and a cute little face. I wouldn't call her skinny but I definitely didn't think she was overweight.
"Um...Do you have any snacks in your box?" She asked with a smile.
"Yes." I jumped up, grabbed my box and opened it for her to see. After a couple of minutes of looking she gave me $2, grabbed 2 Oreo packs, said thanks and left.
A couple of other people came and bought out of my box. When they left I put my box down and resumed back to studying my music. I play piano so I needed to learn the music I had to perform in a few days for my teacher.
After a few minutes I felt like someone was standing next to me. So I turned to see who it was.
I stand up thinking that she wanted to buy something else.
She smiled at me and I just kept staring down at her.
"Uh...Ha...Well...I was just wondering why someone as popular as you was sitting alone. I mean...I don't know...it's just your a senior right? Everyone knows you and loves you. I think anyone in here would love to hang out and talk to you. If it was my senior year I wouldn't want to spend it alone..." she smiles and I just continued to stand there and stare at her. She noticed I wasn't saying anything so she started to back away.
"Um..Well...I was just wondering..." She smiles, almost apologetically and walked away. The way she walked was so confident with her shoulders back and her head held high.
I sat back in my chair staring at my music with out really seeing it. I looked back at Tami and saw that she is with her friends. Laughing and smiling.
I glanced up at the clock over the sink. 5 minutes left. So I started to put my music back into my back pack and head over to where she is.
She had noticed the time and was packing up too. As I was approaching her she looked up and smiled at me.
"Sorry about that but if you don't want to be alone come find me I'll talk to you...or Bianca will. We both would." she smiled and left before I could respond.
The next day I walked into the choir room and she was there. Sitting on the risers eating her lunch. And I've always gone there for lunch ever since.
But at the moment, I'm sitting here waiting for her to realize I'm not in there and to come knocking on the door.
I begin to play a piece on the piano trying to distract myself from over thinking about it. My fingers dance across the cool keys and notes bounce how the walls and bounce together to blend together to make music. It almost stops the butterflies in my stomach.
