The first week was pretty weird. I spent most of my time after school at Kate's just getting to know each other. We got into the routine of walking to and from school, all our classes, and lunch together.
Today was Saturday and I was casually laying in my bed. I strummed a couple chords on my acoustic before finally giving in and texting Kate.
You doing anything today?? -Nialler
She replied about 10 minutes later.
No I just took a shower, why? -Katie
You wanna come over? You've never seen my house anyways.... -Nialler
Yea sure see you in a minute. Literally. -Katie
I laughed at her blunt humor and got up to answer the door.
"Mum, Katie's coming over. That's okay right?" I asked remembering that I never asked her permission in the first place.
"Of course I love Kate! She's always welcome here."
I kissed her forehead and went to the door. Just as I opened the door Kate was about to knock. So basically she knocked on my upper chest once.
"Okay that's totally not what I wanted to happen." She said blushing already.
I chuckled and let her in, giving her a hug and shutting the door behind us.
"Hello Mrs. Horan." She greeted, giving my mum a hug and kiss on the cheek.
"Oh dear please call me Maura. Mrs makes me sound so old." She laughed.
Maybe it's because you are old, I thought. They finished their greetings and I grabbed Kate's hand, leading her to my room.
"Nice room you've got." She commented sarcastically.
"Yeah I guess I should jazz it up a bit," I said awkwardly noticing my blank white walls.
"A bit," she said raising an eyebrow.
"Okay a lot."
She laughed and we sat on the bed with the backs on the wall. We both had no clue what to do, so we kind of just sat there staring into space.
"So did you actually have anything in mind to do or did you just want to see me," she asked.
"Nahh I just wanted to see your beautiful face again."
"How sweet," she said blushing.
"Do you want to go to the park with me?"
"Sure thing. I'll go tell my mom where we're going and then we can head out."
We walked the short distance next door and told her mum that we were going to the park. She sent us off with the promise to be home before dinner.
"So I never asked, why did you and your family move all the way here from Ireland?" She asked.
"Me," she asked as her eyebrows furrowed and her nosed crinkled in the cutest way.
"Yes. When a person gets close to the age of 18 and they haven't found their mate yet, they start getting little hints of where they are and what they look like. As it got closer to my 18th birthday I started having these dreams of you and once I figured out where you were I told my parents and we moved."
"Wait if you got dreams of me why didn't I get any of you?"
"Well you don't turn 18 until June 4th, which by the way is in 2 months. I turned 18 last September."
"This is confusing."
"Doesn't matter. I've found you now and we're together." I said as we reached the park.
She let go of my hand and ran to the playground that should be for children but I'm sure she'll fit just fine. I met Kate at the swings and walked behind to push her as she wanted me to. When 6 o'clock rolled around we found ourselves parting ways at Kate's front doorstep.
"Thanks for spending the day with me. Tell your mom I said hi," she said before giving me a hug.
I leaned back with her still in my arms and smiled at her before kissing her forehead and letting her go.
