15. Treated bad
Liam came over one evening and immediately he noted that Niall was there. It was as if he almost became a little angry at the Irishman and he clearly showed that he didn't like it.
"Are you letting best friends sleep here now or what?"
Harry smiled weakly and didn't know what to say. Niall just took offence and felt totally off.
"I live here for a while." he got out. Liam seemed to flinch and just stared at Harry.
"So you let people live here?"
Harry blushed slightly. He didn't know what to say.
"Yes, he lives here until his apartment is fixed."
Liam threw himself down on the couch and looked coldly at Niall.
"So you have no other friends or do you try to exploit Harry?"
Niall had no answer. He felt how he almost shrank. He sought support from Harry, but got no help.
"No, I exploit no one here."
Liam didn't give up and seemed anything but friendly.
"So move then?"
Harry didn't seemed to like the subject. He also didn't make any attempt to defend Niall. In the end Niall chose to leave them alone. He went up to the bedroom and closed the door. He heard that they were talking, but he couldn't care. He felt so small and felt like everything was his fault. Niall realized slowly that the relationship wouldn't last. Harry wasn't ready for a partner and certainly not for the defence that he was gay. The lies would only grow and get bigger. Still didn't Niall want to leave the house. It was nice to wake up in a bed and knowing that you wouldn't freeze the day after. It was nice to have a full stomach and knowing that there was more food to get. Yet he felt that perhaps it wasn't a good idea to stay?
After a while Niall heard a knock on the door and Harry stuck in his head.
"I'll just go out with Liam for a while."
Niall turned his back to him and closed his eyes. He was close to tears, but didn't dare to show the emotions openly.
"I'll be back in a few hours."
Harry then left him and Niall heard the door shut. Then Harry went down and he left the house along with Liam.
Niall chose the easy way out. He went through the entire wardrobe for warm clothes and changed. He chose all that kept the heat and packed a backpack. Harry had given him clothes, so then it didn't matter if he retained a few. He also chose shoes that managed the cold of the night and a jacket that was really hot. Then he sat in the kitchen and wrote a letter to Harry.
I'm tired of being the one who doesn't fit in and I'm tired of you not standing behind me. Instead of lying more against your friends and your family, I leave you. It wasn't meant to be something between us, and you can't even handle the pressure. I'll keep the clothes that keep me warm, but the rest you can keep. Hoping that one day you will find a partner you can truly stand up for. I hope that one day you dare to argue with your friends and really show who you are. I can't wait for that day. As bad as you and Liam treated made me hurt. I don't want to be treated like an idiot, one who use or pretending to be a rich guy. I'm Niall and I'm myself. You can't change that. My story is something else and I know that I can no longer be in your circles. I belong to the low-paid and those that aren't worth anything. You showed yourself me the limits and I realize that I also will not have a future with you.
It was getting dark out there, but Niall was determined. He chose to take with him some food and water. He found some money and chose to begin his life as a thief. Harry wouldn't miss a single penny, but for Niall was money everywhere.
Niall pulled up the collar of the jacket. He put on his hat and the gloves, then he left the house for good.
