My little secret

Arielle Malik was as close to her brother as two people could possibly be. That was until the one night that caused her to change drastically. After months of being depressed and pushing everyone away, Zayn is extremely frustrated by his failed attempts to not only comfort her, but to have her confide in him about what it is that happened. When Arielle is finally ready to recover, and her mother arranges for her to tour with her brother's band for a few months, things may spiral out of control in more ways than just one...

17. 16

The bus ride is mostly calm for the few hours we are in it. Niall seems a little bit more like himself, laughing from time to time, but is still a bit down from earlier. Zayn is just as depressed as before. I can’t blame him. He must be having a mental battle between letting me see Niall and earning my forgiveness, or keeping me away from him and getting his wish.

It doesn’t really matter anymore, though. Niall will never hang out with me again between Zayn threatening him to me declining his offer for a relationship.

We finally arrive and I am put in a room with Harry. We head up and I change into a white v-neck and purple flannel shorts, again not planning to go to their concert tonight. As soon as I come out, Harry complains.

“Why are you in your pajamas? You can’t miss the concert again,” he whines from his spot on the bed.

“I want to read some more,” I inform him as I put away the shirt Louis got me and my shorts.

“No. You are going to the concert and watching from the very front row,” he demands, standing up and moving over to my suitcase.

“What are you doing?” I ask, confused.

“Picking out an outfit,” he replies as he rummages through my clothes.

“This I would like to see,” I scoff.

“Test my skills, do you?” he says as he turns and gives me a look.

I can’t help but laugh at him. He searches for another ten minutes before throwing me some clothes and commanding me to go change in the bathroom. I do as he says after saluting him and am actually impressed with what he picked out. He originally chose a pair of black pumps, but I declined and said I preferred sneakers. I make sure and take a quick shower before coming back out to show Harry his finished product.

He now has on a plaid green shirt overtop of a plain white one with black jeans.

He tells me to do a quick spin before giving me the thumbs up on my outfit. I pick out a small black clutch to put my phone and room key in before he leads me out the door.

“Is it already time to go to the concert?” I ask, wondering why we had so little time at the hotel.

“No. I just thought I'd take you to get some dinner before,” he says sweetly.

At first I hadn’t liked Harry as much as the other boys just because I knew he had a reputation as a player, but now I see that he is just as kind and caring as the rest of them. I also know that this is just a friendly dinner, and he isn’t interested in me in that kind of way.

We both climb into the back of one of the SUVs and speed off to a nice looking restaurant. Harry leads me inside without anybody recognizing him, which is good. We get a booth near the back and begin scanning our menus. We stay silent until the waitress comes over.

“Are you Harry Styles?” she almost screams.

“Yes, but would you please keep it down? We don’t want anybody noticing,” he answers, and I can sense a bit of aggravation in his voice.

“I’m sorry. Who are you?” she asks as she turns to me, the disgust very apparent in her voice.

“I’m Arielle... Zayn’s sister,” I mutter awkwardly.

“Can we just order please?” Harry speaks up from across the table.

“Of course. What would you like?” the waitress asks, ripping her hate-filled glare away from me.

“The lobster please,” Harry answers simply before handing her his menu.

“I would like a caesar salad please,” I say quietly.

“Good choice,” she sasses snootily as she snatches my menu.

“Excuse me?” Harry asks in shock.

“Nothing,” the woman says as I just sink in my seat.

“I would like a new waiter,” Harry demands as she stalks off angrily.

“I’m so sorry, Arielle. Don’t listen to what she said. She was just jealous because she thought we were on a date,” he tries to comfort me from across the table.

“No. It’s okay. She was right,” I mumble.

He gets up and comes to sit next to me. He pulls me under his arm and I wrap my arms around his chest. Another waiter comes over and takes our orders, but we don’t move from this position. Harry makes me order a steak, telling me that I have to eat something unless he wants me to call Louis and get him down here to force feed me. I comply, not wanting to argue with him.

While we wait for our food, neither of us talk, but eventually he begins singing quietly:

Oh, her eyes, her eyes

Make the stars look like they're not shinin'

Her hair, her hair

Falls perfectly without her trying

She's so beautiful

And I tell her everyday

I know, I know

When I compliment her she won't believe me

And it's so, it's so

Sad to think that she don't see what I see

But every time she asks me "Do I look okay?"

I say

When I see your face

There's not a thing that I would change

'Cause you're amazing

Just the way you are

And when you smile

The whole world stops and stares for a while

'Cause girl you're amazing

Just the way you are

I’m sure he would have continued had our food not arrived right when he finished singing the chorus. I pull away from him quickly, finally remembering something.

“What is it?” he asks worriedly.

“What if Zayn sees us like this?” I panic.

“Don’t worry. Nobody knows we’re here,” he coos, visibly relaxing.

I just hope that Zayn doesn’t find out. God only knows what he would do if he did.
