As all classes are on a Monday morning, mine dragged by miserably. By lunch I was desperate to see Jazz and Chloe.
I met them at our usual table with our other friends, feeling much better after laughing at their comments and jokes about each other. Chloe had left after 10 minutes to join the jocks and cheerleaders, or the "Popular people" as they like to call themselves. No one really minded much as it had always been this way, so it seemed normal when she got up and said her goodbyes only a couple of minutes after we sat down. I excused myself to get some lunch about half way through after having stitches in my sides from laughing so much.
I walked up to join the lunch queue and stood there awkwardly for a couple of minutes before I heard a deep voice from behind me.
"Excuse me? You dropped this." The voice was smooth and made me insides melt like butter. I turned around and froze.
Staring down it me was one of the most gorgeous faces I had ever seen. This beautiful boy smiled at me with perfect white teeth with a small gap between the two at the front. His eyes were warm and welcoming, a beautiful mahogany colour with long eyelashes and crinkles that told me he smiles a lot. He had a mop of messy chocolate brown hair on top of his head that I had a sudden urge to run my fingers through. He was tall, about six foot and relatively muscular with faint traces of a six pack under his plain t shirt. His skin was a pale almond colour, but not so pale that he was sickly looking. He was gorgeous.
"Ummm...thanks...I uh...didn't realise". Great one Via.
He smiled and his face lit up. "It's cool. I'm Tristan." He stuck out a hand which I just stared down at it for a moment before realising he was expecting me to shake it.
I shook his hand and it felt like I was on fire. Warmth spread from my finger tips all the way through my body to my toes and I nearly gasped. It felt like I had been electrocuted. I blushed furiously at this and looked down at my shoes.
"Umm, Via. Hi." I mumbled. This conversation just got better and better.
If he felt what I did then he didn't show it, he just smiled at me and said "Hey."
I dared myself to look up into his beautiful brown eyes and decided to say something to create a proper conversation. I was already intrigued.
But before I got the chance to say anything I was interrupted by a girly, high pitched squeal that came from Chloe. She ran up to Tristan and I whilst beaming and grabbed his arm.
"Tristan! OMG, it's been like, forever!!" She smiled widely.
Tristan laughed and the adorable crinkles around his eyes deepened. He replied with "I saw you yesterday, Chloe. In English?" He grinned.
She rolled her eyes and said "Exactly! Oh good, you've met Via? V, this is my new English partner I was telling you about!" She smiled. But she didn't tell me about her new English partner. And that wasn't her regular smile. I've known Chloe for years as well as Jazz, so I could tell what her genuine smiles looked like and this wasn't it. This was the smile she had when she liked a boy. When he was her property and just hers. Fantastic.
I forced a smile that I knew she wouldn't realise as fake, and said "Yeah. I just dropped some money and Tristan picked it up for me. Thanks, by the way." It was my turn in the queue but I had suddenly lost my appetite, so I asked for a diet coke and paid.
"Oh Via, you're so clumsy!" She fake laughed. I knew she wanted me to back off. I gave them another fake smile and said "See you in English." With one last glance at Tristan. He smiled again, he's so cute when he smiles.
I turned and walked back to my table and Jazz mouthed a silent "You ok?" Looking concerned as I sat down amongst the chatter and laughing. I rolled my eyes and mouthed "Chlo."
She rolled her eyes back as if in agreement. I sat there silently for the rest of lunch to think. My eyes searched the room for Tristan and I wasn't surprised when I saw him sat with the jocks. He looked like an athlete, lean and muscular. Chloe was all over him no doubt, touching his arm and flicking her hair. I rolled my eyes again and thought "Why should she get this one?" He seemed sincere. Not broken. Right then, I decided that I wasn't going to give him up to Chloe for her to have some fun with then break into pieces. If she wants to play, let the games begin.
