13. Cold Autumn Night
It took a while to get to the orphanage. It was in the middle of Sydney. Looking out the window of the car watching the world go bye. As we drove past places I had been with Alex, Rose, James and the others I felt mixed emotions happiness that those memories were there and sadness that I couldn't see them again. The lady watched me. She didn't say anything for a long time, but then she spoke up, "What were you two doing in that room?!" She asked as if it was her business, "Excuses me but when did my relationship become your business? Do you even know either of our names? And do you really want to know?!" I snarled pissed off by the whole deal. "It's my business because if you are carrying a child you'll have to have an abortion. Your name is Kate Harris and I don't care who he is, and I DO want to know." She said turning back to look at me. I was so mad "I'm NOT pregnant and even if I was ALEX and I would NEVER have an abortion! I don't believe in it! It's the parents fault the child doesn't deceive to fucking die! If anything people who believe in it deceive to die! My last name is not Harris! It's Ambrosia! And we were JUST kissing it was the last time we could see each-other and we were making the most of it until you came in!" I started to shake the idea of an abortion scared me I remember how my uncle dealt with my pregnancy in grade school. I refused to answer anything else they asked.
Once we got to the orphanage I got out and slammed the door shut. I was still pissed at them. The lady who ran the orphanage came out. "Oh deary me look at her. What did you say to make her so mad?" The lady asked looking at the others and then back at me, "Deary I'm going to take good care of you don't you worry. Nothing bad will happen to you." She smiled she seemed so sweet and kind. She was a bigger lady and she was aboriginal by the looks of her. I grabbed my bag and flung it over my shoulder. "Nothing bad would've happen to me if I had of stayed with Alex" I grumbled walking up the marble steps of the orphanage. "Come with me there's a hot bath waiting." The lady said "And your room is the one right next door." She smiled kindly.
I got undressed and slid into the bath. It was so relaxing. I started remembering the past couple of months. Pulling my legs towards me I started to cry. My phone started to beep when I got out. I looked at it. It was from Alex, 'I might've tracked the car...and I'm kinda standing out the front.' Was what the message read, I quickly got dressed. The three adults where in the kitchen. Creeping down the stairs, I quickly ran to the door. Running down the cold marble steps I jumped into Alex's arms, my hair and skin still wet from the bath. Alex kissed me and I kissed him back. He held me tightly.
We just stood out in the cold autumn night hugging on the marble steps.
