6. Chapter Six

It was now three o'clock in the afternoon and I had successfully avoided discussing our grand unveiling to the world. It's not like we don't want the fans to know about us, we just didn't want them to hate us. We don't want them to hate me for being in the boys lives. I have seen it happen with the One Direction boys and Justin Bieber and almost every other celebrity. I just don't want the boys to think that they have to chose between us and their fans because I don't think I could lose them.

Staying hidden works.

I like hiding.

"Guys, get ready, we have to be at the venue in little bit," Calum said and he was gone as quickly as he had came. My hair was already done from when I took a shower and I was already wearing my black skinnies with my Good Vibes shirt so I didn't have anything. So I just stayed in the lounge room with the rest of the boys, all of us doing our own thing. I sat next to Luke as he plucked at his guitar while Mikey and Ashton were playing a violent video game.

"Damn it Michael, stop shooting me!" Ashton screamed for the fourth time since they started. I giggled as he threw his controller on the couch. "I'm going to go take a shower, have fun playing alone you booger." With that he exited the room.

"Marissa come play with me!" Michael whined.

"No way, I will not play with you if all you're going to do is shoot me. Robert pulled that card way too many times for me to fall for it." I stated. Michael tried giving me the puppy dog eyes but I just shook my head, crossing my arms over my chest, cementing my words. Luke continued playing his guitar, chuckling at the whole encounter.

"You're no fun, Bunny," Michael pouted. "I'm going to go drown my sorrows in food because you're so mean to me." He said before leaving the lounge room. Leaving Luke and I alone.

"Marissa?" He asked timidly, stopping the noises from coming out of his guitar.

"Yeah?" I said, turning on the couch so that I was facing him. I had a feeling I knew what this would be about.

"Why don't you want the fans to know about you?" He was looking down, as if he was nervous to hear my answer. "Like, are you ashamed to be associated with us?" He looked up at me, pinning me with his blue eyes. I stared at him in disbelief.

"Luke, how could you even think something like that? I am so proud of you boys and I couldn't imagine my life without you guys. I would be a mess without you guys and I can't even tell you how many times I've almost let the cat out of the bag about you guys. I would love for the world to know, I just can't handle them knowing right now."

"But why? I don't see what would be so bad about it. You make us happy and they will accept that. Just please let us tell them. What happened today... I don't know what I would have done if that guy had taken you away from us. Marissa, what if he raped you? I could never live with myself." It was so hard to see him so upset over this. I just wanted to kiss him until he stopped feeling this way, but I couldn't.

"Luke this isn't your fault, you couldn't have done anything else."  I stood up and took his guitar from his grasp, setting it down lightly next to us. I sat down on his lap and hugged him tightly, his arms held me close to his chest.

"But I could have..." He mumbled

"Luke, I'm fine. Trust me I am. He would have gotten sick of me within the first five minutes, he would have just given me back." I said, leaning back in his arms to look into his eyes. "And I would love for the fans to know about me and Clara, I just need time to get a handle on the idea. The last thing I need is for them to find out and have a panic attack because I wasn't ready."

"Yeah, but what if they find out on their own, from a stupid mistake and none of us are ready? Why not just prepare ourselves now and tell them on our own?" I stood up while shaking my head. No matter how good of a logic that was, I wasn't ready for the hate.

"No Luke, I'm not ready and Clara deserves to have a say too. We need to talk to her about it too." I said.

"Ok, then let's call her then, right now." He pulled his phone from his pocket roughly, he was aggravated, I couldn't blame him. I would probably do the same in his place.

"What are you doing Luke?" I sighed, I knew he was adamant about telling them, but why?

"Calling Clara. We need to just get this over with."

"NO! You can't, she... she" How was I supposed to explain this? 'Sorry Luke, you can't call her because she is on a flight out here right now. Surprise!' that wouldn't work.

"Luke stop!" I grabbed his phone out of his hands, he wasn't even listening, just continued to scroll through his contacts. He stood up, towering over me.

"Give it back, Marissa. You wanted her to get her say, so let's call her." He said through gritted teeth, reaching for his phone.

"You can't. This is not the time to call her. We need to do this when we are all here to talk about it, not just three of us. This affects all six of us. Besides, she's at her cousins wedding, that's why she couldn't come this weekend. Let's just set aside a day when we don't have to go to the arena in a five miuntes. We need to take a day that we can have as much time as we need to talk about this. This is such a big decision and it doesn't need to be rushed. Okay?" When he didn't answer, I set his phone down on the couch and grabbed his face between my hands. I looked into his eyes, and he started to relax. "Okay?" I asked again, he only nodded and I pulled him into a hug.

"I'm sorry I'm being such a dick about this, but today really freaked me out. Something as stupid as secrecy isn't worth losing you." He said as he played with a piece of my hair.

"I know, and we will figure it out, I promise. Now let's go to the arena so you can kick tonight's show in the ass!" He chuckled and we let each other go before going into the front of the bus where everyone else was waiting for us. Tonight was going to be fun.

It was about 6:15 and Paul had arranged for us to go to the airport at 6:30. Things were going well so far and the boys still had no clue. All the boys were in their dressing room, just chilling before the show. I however, was in the bathroom trying to think of a way to get out of here. Maybe I can fake an injury... no, they would want to come to the hospital... Death in the family.... no... faking sick... perfect.

"Oi, fuck off Calum!" I heard Luke scream from the other room. I giggled and began to wet a towel with hot water and held it to my face. I put on my 'I don't feel good' face that I have used loads of times to skip school. Hey, I never said I was an angel.

I pouted in the mirror a few times and after a minute I exited the bathroom. I plopped down on the couch next to Ashton, leaning my head on his shoulder.

"You love us Lou and you know it!" Michael said from where he was hugging her behind Luke who was still getting his hair done.

"Please don't touch me..." Lou trying to run away from Michael cringing. Everyone was laughing, but I tried to keep my sick face on. I nudged Ashton.

"Hey I'm not feeling too good..." I said his hand went to my forehead and cheeks and he frowned.

"It feels like you have a fever, do you want me to see if we have any medicine?" He was the sweetest.

"No, I think I'm just going to go lay down on the bus," I said standing up.

"What's wrong, Bunny?" Calum asked and everyone looked at me.

"I don't feel well, I'm going to go lay down on the bus for a bit before the show." I said with a sad smile.

"Do you want me to walk you?" Luke hopped up from his seat.

"No, I'll be fine, you finish getting your hair done..." I shuffled my way to the door, trying to play it up as much as I could. I felt bad for lying, but they would thank me later. Once I got out to the bus Preston was waiting for me in the car. I smiled at him before hopping in next to him.

"How have you been, Preston?" I asked.

"I've been alright, these boys are making my hair go grey, but I'm good. How have you been? Any boys  back home that I have to beat up?"

"Only the ones I'm here to visit." I laughed. "But I've been good, school isn't too bad. Nothing really special."

"That's nice, so like give me the dish on you and Luke! He was totally looking at you today and like I can't wait until you guys make babies!" I burst into laughter and so did he. Preston was such a great guy, he loves to make people laugh.

"That was impressive, have you been practicing?"

"No, I'm a natural. Besides Lizzie never shuts up about that kind of stuff when she has friends over."

"That must be awkward, is she still dating that one guy?" I was glad he let me move the conversation away from Luke, everyone seemed to like talking about it.

"No, they broke up and she was devastated for weeks. It hurts to see your baby in pain, you just want to hold them and make it better, but you know you can't. And all at the same time you want to go over to the kids house and strangle him for hurting her. I guess a kiss on the boo-boo can't fix everything." I nodded and pretended I knew how he felt.

"She's okay now and that's all that matters. So how is Patricia and Johnathan?"

"They're alright, Johnny started Secondary School this year and Patricia and I are having another baby soon. She just told me this morning, you are the first person I've told." He was smiling from ear to ear as he shared the amazing news.

"Preston, that's fantastic! I'm so happy for you, just make sure you keep me updated. Send me pictures too, just put me on that list right now!" he laughed, but agreed.

"Just think of me as their annoying Aunt Marissa that has to know everything, come to think of it, put me on the list for Christmas cards too!"

"Will do, Boss. We will be at the airport soon, do you want me to come in with you?"

"If you want, I mean we are picking up Clara so if you want to hug her first you'll have to fight me for it," I said with my fists up. We both laughed at my weirdness.

"I might have to take you up on that." He said and turned into the airport. I was so excited, I hadn't seen Clara since she came to visit for summer break which was almost a year ago.

We pulled into a parking space and walked into the big airport. After searching for her terminal we finally found it. The plane had just landed and the passengers were waiting to be let off. I bounced in my spot as I waited very anxiously for all the people to come out.

I gave Preston an excited look and he smiled back. What felt like forever later I saw my short, red headed Twinzie walk out the doors, looking tired as hell coming towards us from customs.

"CLARE BEAR!!!!!" I screamed before barreling over to her.

"ISSA!!!!!!!!" She screamed running over. We clashed into each other and hugged each other for what felt like ages.

"I missed you so much! We need to fly out to see each other more, I will not stand for seeing you only once a year!" She huffed.

"We must, I need my Clare Bear more than just through a computer screen!" We pulled back and Clara picked up her backpack from the floor. When she stood back up she screamed "PRESTON!" Before flinging herself into his arms.

"If you're this excited to see me and this weird one, I can't imagine how excited you are to see Calum and the rest of the boys." Preston laughed from where he was bent down to hug her. At the mention of Calum, Clara pulled away blushing pink.

"Let's just go get my bag, please, I don't want to miss the concert."

Clara and I were currently sat on the bus. If I knew the boys at all one of them would come get me before the show starts. I was hoping that it wasn't Calum because if Clara didn't have enough time to hide, it wouldn't matter as much if it was one of the other boys. Sure we were all best friends and the other boys would be excited to see her too, but the surprise was mostly for Calum becuase of how important she is to him.

"So what did I miss today?"

"Well I surprised the boys this morning, Calum and I both recorded it and then we went to breakfast where I had a nervous breakdown because Ashton brought up Robert and I let everything out about him being to pure and nice to be in the military. Then as we were leaving I had to ride Benji dow-" Clara burst out into laughter as I said ride Benji because she is a little perv, but I just smacked her arm and continued "Anyways, I rode Benji down the street to the car so that no one assumed I was with the boys and some guy tried to kidnap me so now all the boys want to tell the fans about us and all day I have been trying to avoid the conversation until you got here and Luke almost called you to get your opinion because I kept saying how you wanted your say and I finally got him to calm down about it. Then we went into the arena, I faked sick to leave then I picked you up from the airport and now here we are."  I said with a huff.

"Well shit Issa, that's rough, did you kick his ass?"

"No, I ended up screaming for the boys then kicked him in the balls. Oh and I bit his hand."

"That's my girl, but I was talking about Luke" She winked. I smacked her arm and rolled my eyes, earning a giggle from her.

"So when are we heading in?"

"I'm betting one of them will come get me, but if they don't about ten minutes. They go on at eight so yeah. What are you going to do?"

"About what?"

"How are you going to surprise him? Like are you just going to wait in the wings or are you going to pop out like 'I'm here motherfuckas'?"

"I'm not sure yet, but I'll think of something." We both heard loud laughs coming from outside the bus and Clara jumped up before climbing into one of the bunks. I stayed on the couch, but layed down and pretended to scroll through Twitter as the bus door opened.

"Hey guys, what's up?" I said as I sat up. Ashton sat down on the couch next to me and felt my forehead.

"Your fever is down, that's good, we go on stage soon so let's go."

"Alright, I have to run to the bathroom first, you guys go ahead and I'll catch up."

"Alright, Bunny, just go right to the wing of the stage, we will be there." Calum said and turned to leave, but stopped.

"Calum, what's wrong?" Ashton asked.

"I thought I smelled Clara's perfume... I miss her so much, I'm delusional." He said it so sadly though, that I almost started to cry.

"You'll see her soon, after the concert we will all be quiet so you guys can Skype okay?" Ashton  said and slapped him on the shoulder

"Yeah, you're right. Anyways, meet us in the wings, Bunny!" I nodded and the two left the bus. I sighed in relief, that was close.

"They're gone, you can come out now!" I called and I heard the curtain open, revealing a flustered Clara.

"I think my heart just broke! That was seriously so sweet, I might just cry!"

"I know!!!! It took everything in me not to come out and surprise him now!" She said while frowning. "So how are we getting into the arena without them seeing me? I need to hold my Calum and I mean now."

"That is where our security friends come in" I said, pulling out my cell and dialing Preston, my mom would kill me for my phone bill, but this was far more important.

"Hey, I need your help. I have to get Clara in without the boys seeing her. Can you text me when they go to the stage?" I said once he answered.

"Of course, darling. I'll have them go now."

"Thanks Preston, I owe you one!"

"Don't mention it, Sweetie!" I smiled and hung up before turning to Clara.

"We are good to go, now we just wait for the all clear."

"I hope that I am never on the other end of your schemes" She said and I only winked before going into the bathroom.

*

"They're backstage, let's go!" I called to Clara as I came back out. We left the bus and we ran around as if we were on mission impossible, holding up our finger guns.

"So I was thinking that you can stay in their dressing room until they go on. That way you can come out and get ready to do whatever." She nodded and we went to find Preston. We found him talking to Liam and as we got closer we found that they were talking about what was happening after the show.

"Hey guys," I said as we walked up.

"Hello ladies, long time no see." Liam said.

"Yeah, it's been a while. We should catch up while we're here." Clara said. She was probably trying not to freak out because so was I.

"Yeah we should, see ya!" We both said a quick 'bye' before we pulled Preston away.

"So! We are hiding Clara in the boys dressing room until they go onstage,"

"Okay, you probably won't be able to find your way, so I will come get you. Let's go so that no one comes looking for you, Marissa." I nodded and we went over to the boys dressing room. We walked through the many halls before we got to the white walled room. We entered and Clara popped down on the couch.

"Have fun in here, I will text you if you have to hide from someone, see you soon." With that Preston and I made our way towards the stage.

*

"Are you nervous?" I asked Clara as we waited for the boys to finish. They had about two songs left and I was practically shitting my pants with excitement.

"A little, I think you're more nervous than I am though." She said with a laugh. I just stared at her confused.

"Why would you think that?" I asked.

"You're shaking and you're more jumpy than normal." Clara smirked. I immediately stopped my body from shaking and smoothed my shirt out, clearing my throat.

"I don't know what you're talking about" I said with my nose pointed in the air. Clara just laughed at me from her perch behind the sound equipment.

Before we knew it the boys were saying their goodbyes to the audience and I tried my best to keep my cool. They all ran off the stage, hyped up and sweaty.

"Did you guys have fun, Rockin' and rollin'?" I asked doing an guitar stance and rocker hands.

"Yeah we did weirdo, did you have fun watching?" Calum asked, coming over to give me a hug which I tried my best to dodge, but he caught up to me. I slyly picked his lucky guitar pick from the strings of his bass and pulled away from him.

He began chugging down a bottle of water and the other boys moved to give me hugs as well.

"Hey, where is your guitar pick?" I asked Calum.

"On my bass, why?"

"Can I see it?" He checked his bass strings before his eyes went wide and he began patting his pockets. He ran back on stage, earning a bunch of screams and as soon as he was gone I ran over to where Clara was and handed her the pick.

"If you guys don't play it cool when Clara comes out I will kill your first born children." I said to the boys as I walked back towards them.

"WHAT?" Ashton began to scream before I smacked my hand over his mouth. I gave him and the other boys a death glare and they all backed away with their hands up in surrender. I smiled as Calum came back from the stage with a confused look on his face.

"Did you find it?" I asked. He shook his head.

"I thought I put it on my bass, but I guess it slipped out..." Clara silently came out and made her way up behind him, I was trying to hide the huge smile that was fighting its way on to my lips.

"Are you looking for this?" She said and I have never seen anyone turn so fast. Clara was immediately picked up off the ground in a hug. I smiled as I saw Preston walk over with his phone pointed at the encounter, recording it all and everyone that was backstage began to clap and cheer. The two lovers shared a long kiss before they both broke apart in huge smiles.

"What...H-How...What?" Calum stuttered as he stared at Clara in disbelief.

"You're not the only one that can arrange a surprise," I said and Calum tackled me into a hug before retreating towards Clara, wrapping his arms around her.

"Now that all that excitement is over, who's up for some food?" Michael said.

"Me!" I screamed. I was starved. I had barely eaten all day and I was dying.

This day turned out amazing and after this morning I wasn't sure that it would. Our family was together and I smiled as Clara made her way around to the other boys to give them all hugs. All I could think as we made our way out to the cars was that this weekend was going to be awesome.
