"You may not need me, but I need you."

1. Chapter 1

"Jamie I'm going to the gym before class." I called out to my roommate who was most likely still asleep. I decided to get up early this morning so I could attempt to go to the gym and work out before my classes started. I go to Cambridge University here In England. No I'm not British but I decided that it would be fun and interesting to study abroad for my college experience. I mean how many people get to say that?

"Kat please shut up!" Jamie shouted back. I guess she was awake then but barely. I laughed at her and headed out towards the gym.

When I got to the gym I went ahead and checked in and stuffed my small duffle bag into the tiny lockers that the facility offered. I decided that I would first start with cardio and go upstairs and try the treadmills.

On my way up I walked past a room with multiple punching bags and only a single person using one. He had his hair pushed back with a sweatband but a couple of loose curls made their way down to his forehead. I noticed a variety of tattoos arranged up and down his arms. He looked so intense and focused as if he had a death wish against the punching bag itself.

I hadn't noticed that I was staring at him until I saw his gaze shift from the bag and to me. His face contorted with confusion and I gasped quickly moving out of sight of him.

Well that was awkward.

After an hour and a half of working out I checked my phone's clock and realized that I needed to get ready for the day. I quickly collected my stuff and headed back to the apartment.

"Hey you weren't gone long?" Jamie said as she put a bowl in the sink.

"Well we do have school today." I walked into the bathroom and ran the shower water. I washed up and brushed my teeth. I braided my while it was still wet and threw it over my shoulder. I don't particularly feel like actually trying today so I pulled on my grey Cambridge sweatshirt and a pair of light blue jeans. I slipped on my grey toms to top it all off and was ready.

"Jamie come on!" I shouted. Jamie came hopping down the hall on one foot as she attempted to put her shoes on. My roommate.

My first class of the day was calculus which I took even though I hate it. I took my usual seat next to my other best friend here at school named Charlie. Ever since the first day when I walked into this class awkwardly he made me feel as if I wasn't the most awkward person ever being the only American here.

"How was your morning?" He asked politely.

"I actually went to work out this morning."  He jokingly gasped at my accomplishment.

"Oh shut up." I playfully nudged his shoulder.

Our professor Dr. Mason walked in to begin today's lesson. Honestly I could care less what goes on in calculus. I still question to this day as to why I took it in college. I was pretty good at it in high school but that doesn't mean that I enjoyed it.

The class groaned on to what felt like hours but thank god it was finally over. The rest of my day went by pretty fast and I was most certainly thankful for that.

The next morning I decided to do what I had did yesterday morning and go to the gym. I got myself ready and headed out.

When I got there I went to the same place I had yesterday and on my way up I saw the same familiar figure in the room repeatedly hitting the punching bags. This time he noticed me immediately. He stopped punching the bag and turning fully to look at me. He began walking towards me and came out of the room.

"May I help you?" I asked out of breath, a hint of annoyance in his tone. I didn't know what to really say. I saw that his eyes were an emerald green. He raised an eyebrow at me.

"I-I sorry." I stuttered. He probably thought I was a complete idiot.
"You're American?"
"Yes. Why?"
"Your accent." He said like it was the most obvious thing in the world which I guess it was.
"Oh yeah right." An awkward silence followed behind. What else were we supposed to say to each other?
"I'm Kat." I introduced. He nodded his head.
"I'm a name. Is there anything else you want?" I was taken aback by his rude response and tone.
"No thank you." I felt my face heat up with slight embarrassment. I went back down stairs and left the gym. God how rude could he have been?
