7. Small Things

I’ve said it before

And I’ll say it again;

It’s the small things that matter,

The things that make up your life:

The people, the places,

The words and the gestures.

They hold me together,

Prevent me from falling apart.

Without them I’d be nothing.

Without them I wouldn’t be here.

I say they hold me together,

In fact, they keep me alive.

Look at poor Astrid Clay

Who has now gone on her way

To a better place than this,

Somewhere that I know as heaven.

She fell apart

By missing out and forgetting about

The small things in life

Which always matter the most.

But for me and me alone,

I know that my belief

In holding tightly to the small things

Will keep me steadfast here on Earth

Because I’ve said it before

And I’ll say it again:

It’s the small things that matter,

The things that make up your day-to-day life.
