Small Things

Poetry, what else?

10. Responsibility

Every minute, every hour
Seems to bring me
Increasing power
And more I'm entitled to see.

They pour it out in gallons,
Drowning me in what I can do
But all I feel is the grip of talons
Tightening on all that is new.

The more I'm given
The less I feel I can cope;
Maybe the reason I am driven
To look longingly at the rope.

I'll never do it
But sometimes I can't
Carry the burden and sit
And I long to say I shan't.

All this to me
Is a calamity
Being given the key

To having responsibility.
