Haunted

Three friends. One house. More danger than they’ve ever faced before, more strange things happening to and around them than they ever thought possible. The deeper they let themselves get entangled in, the more perilous they’re lives become. And they still have no idea, they still don’t realize that their lives are at stake and this one house will not leave until it has what it wants.

2. Angela- The Start of it All

Hiding in the Dark

Angela- The Start

The house looked like it hadn't been used for years. The paint was peeling off and the windows of the three floored mansion were open. It was supported by pillars which were broken and cracked. It looked like a wreck. It was so different than the houses near it. The other houses were painted, with a nice garden and weren't supported by pillars like this one.

"It is said that it is haunted." Katie said, staring at it like me.

"I know but I always wanted to see it from inside." I said. If it had been kept nicely, the house would have looked great.

"Even I'm curious." Asher said from beside me.

"You know someone said, 'Curiosity killed the cat'?" Katie said, "I don't want to enter this place. It is said to be cursed."

"You believe in curses and these haunted mansion things?" I turned to look at her with raised eyebrows.  Her blond hair were left open and were falling on her shoulder. Her brown eyes seemed a shade lighter in the bright afternoon sun.

"Yes, I do." Katie said silently. I never believed in this. I only believe in things that I, myself have experienced.

"Okay, then, you may not want to come with us tonight." Asher said coolly. Asher was my best friend.

"Where are we going tonight?" I asked him, not knowing what he was talking about.

"If you want we all can go in there tonight." he suggested.

"My parents would not be home tonight. I'm in." I said. My dad was going to Sydney for some work and my mom was accompanying him.

"You know my mom would be working." Asher said and we both turned towards Katie, who seemed to be thinking hard.

"Okay, I'm in, I would say I'm at Angela's place as her parents have gone out." Katie said. Asher and I gave each other a high-five.

"I knew she would come." Asher said smirking, "What about the keys?"

"I'll take it from the caretaker." Katie said.

"Okay." I said slowly, shocked that Katie would bring the keys. "So we'll meet at one in the morning here?"

"Okay." The other two said together.

"But," Katie said, “We’ll just look around okay? No touching anything or stealing. This house is owned by some dealer here. I don't want to be caught."

"Katie, you know what?" Asher said, putting an arm on her shoulder, "You worry too much. Just chill."

I looked at my watch and said, "I got to go. Mom and Dad will be waiting." We all said a good bye and parted ways.

I ran home and found my parents packing their bags. I threw my bag on the sofa and went to my room. I slumped on the bed and turned my laptop on. The day went by ever so slowly. I was waiting for the night to come.

I had always been curious about that house. People said it was cursed and if anyone goes inside gets the curse and the ghost kills them. Stupid people scared of an old house.

Katie came in the evening, when my parents were about to leave. After they left, we watched horror film as we always did and then at midnight, we packed some things in a bag. God knows how, Katie had got the keys from the caretaker.

"We passed the house everyday, Angela, why did we get the idea to go today only?" Katie asked as she tied her hair in a ponytail, while looking at the mirror.

"I don't know." I said simply. I had tied my dark hair in a ponytail as well leaving the fringes to fall ahead. I put a flash light and a pepper spary in the small bag and put it on my shoulder.

"I don't think this is a good idea, Angie." She said, looking at me. I knew she believed in ghost and spirits but what's the harm in looking?

"There's no harm in looking. I know you are curious too." I said as I closed the window of my bedroom. "Asher was right,  you think too much."

"Yes, I think too much. I don't like what you're doing, okay? I still think it's a bad idea."

"C'mon, let's just go." I said, dragging her with me out of the house. I locked the house behind me and started walking towards the house. The night was still and silent. It was one in the morning and all lights in the houses near by were off.

We reached the house to see Asher standing in front of it. He had a flashlight in hand.

"Hey, did you get the keys?" Asher asked Katie.

"Oh, yes." Katie said, smiling. She took out a key from her pocket and tried it on the door. It didn't click.  "It isn't working!"

"Who are y'all?" A voice said and we all turned in the direction. It was a boy of probably our age.

"Who are you?" I asked back instead of answering him.

"The son of the owner of this house you're trying to enter." He said taking a step towards us. In the street light he looked like a ghost himself. "Where did you get a key from?"

"The caretaker." Katie said.

"We don't have a caretaker..." He said.

"Guys, I told you this house is haunted!" Katie exclaimed.

"We'll see." the boy said, "By the way, I’m Riley.”

“I’m Angela and these are my friends Asher and Katie.”

“So, y’all are here to see the haunted house?” Riley said, searching his pockets for the keys.

"Yes, I wanted to see what's inside that scares people so much." Asher said.

"I have never seen you around, you're new here?" I asked the boy who was by the door fiddling with his keys.

"Yes, I am." he said, "I wanted to see the house that my granny keeps talking about. And y'all can come with me inside. I don't mind."

"Thanks." I said. The key clicked in the lock and the boy opened the big double doors. It was dark inside. I took out a flashlight from my bag and turned it on. A cool breeze blew past me, making me shiver.

The boy stepped inside and turned the lights on. The others followed him inside but I stayed frozen on the spot. I had a bad feeling about this. I was confident before but now something felt out of place. I ignored the feeling and stepped inside the house.

Now that I think about it, I wished I had listened to that feeling...
