I walked up and knocked on Carl’s door.
“Come in.” I heard his sister Mandy say.
I opened the door and literally pushed Shane in the house. I closed the door behind us.
“Where’s Carl.” I asked. Mandy groaned.
“Why every time you come here you hang out with that dweeb instead of me.” She asked. I rolled my eyes.
“This is serious.” I said.
“Fine. Dweebs in dad’s office.” Mandy said. I pulled Shane’s hand and drug him to the office with me. When we entered. Carl had his head in his hands and was crying. I walked over to him and hugged him.
“It’s going to be ok.” I said rocking him. He shook his head.
“No it won’t, where will me and Mandy live?” He asked.
“You guys can stay at my place; you know my parents love you. They will give you the spare rooms.” I said. Carl nodded.
“Thanks Jack, you’re the best.” He said. I patted his shoulder.
“Now let’s get this over with. Where’s your dad?” I asked. Carl nodded to the corner of the room where I saw a body lying. I slid my crossbow of my back and put and arrow in it. Slowly I walked over. When I was next to Carl’s dad he woke up.
“Blood. So thirsty. Blood.” He said.
“I hate this part.” I said.
I raise the crossbow to his head and fired. Blood was everywhere in seconds.
“Yo Shane!” I said and he was quickly at my side.
“You know what just happened?” I asked. He nodded.
“Was one of those things chasing you?” I asked. Again he nodded.
“Did you get bit?” He shook his head.
“Good. Now will you go get some towels?” I asked and he nodded. Mandy walked in just as Shane was leaving.
“Where did you get the hunk? I thought you only hung with nerds.” She said.
I rolled my eyes.
“He came running to my house in the middle of the night. He’s crashing at my place for I don’t know how long and I never really paid attention to how he looked. Guess he is pretty hot.” I said with a shrug.
Mandy shook her head. “Girl, I’ve seen the way he looks at you. I don’t think he’s ever leaving your side.” She said.
“He’s not by my side right now.” I said smartly.
Mandy patted my shoulder. “I’m happy we finally had a conversation that wasn’t about weird stuff.” She said smiling.
I rolled my eyes and we both burst out laughing. Just then Shane walked in with the towels. Mandy quickly stopped laughing and grabbed her brother’s arm.
“I just remembered me and Carl have a scrapbook to make, bye.” She said and pulled Carl out of the room.
Carl glared at Shane on the way out. I burst out laughing.
“What’s so funny?” Shane asked handing me a towel.
“Nothing, it’s nothing.” I said trying not to laugh. I took a towel from his hand and started wiping up some blood.
“So where are you from?” I asked.
“I used to live in Florida but my parents moved us here about a mile from your house.” Shane responded.
“Where are your parents?” I asked.
Shane gulped. “They killed them. I live with my older brother, he’s a hunter too.” He said.
“What’s his name?” I asked.
“Daryl.” He said. I nodded.
“I’ve met him; we have to hunt together a lot. How come you don’t hunt?” I asked. Shane shook his head.
“No good at it. I suck at using weapons.” He said.
“Aw man. I was going to ask you to be my partner.” I said with a shrug. Shane shook his head.
“I so can’t.” He said.
“Think your brother would be interested? He’s really good. I would really like the three of us to be a team though.” I said making a tsk noise. Shane let out a sigh.
“Fine. I’ll join, but I don’t guarantee my brother will.” He said. I grinned.
“He will, trust me.” I said.
I finished up cleaning the blood and told Shane I’d take him home. I ran upstairs to Carl’s room to say goodbye. When I reached his room I knocked. Carl opened the door. I hugged him.
“So sorry about your dad. Are you guys still going to crash at my place? I’m about to go take Shane to his house.” I said. Carl nodded.
“We are going to come to your house tomorrow if that’s ok.” He said. I nodded and kissed him on the cheek.
“Bye!” I said on the way down the stairs. When I reached the bottom Shane was waiting at the door for me.
“Ok. Let’s go.” I said and grabbed his hand.
