7. Looking For The Begging Of A New Life
Niall was snoring on the cot in the back room, Harry was talking to his sister; who he hasn't seen since this all started. "So, what happened to Zayn?" Pierre whispered sitting across from me. "He didn't make it. Just like the rest of them." I shrugged lighting a ciggerate. "You don't even care do you?" She seemed to grow with anger. "He was bit while we were escaping from a mob of zombies. Does that satisfy you?" I blew smoke into her face. She smiled at me and wiped away a tear. "We were suppose to get married this year." She spun her ring around on her finger. "He never mention you." I finished the last of my ciggerate. She smiled and looked around. "We were going through a rough time. But I never stopped loving that man." She ran her fingers through her hair and got up and went to the front. I laughed to myself and went to the back room. Niall was still asleep so I took off my clothes without turning around. "You're so beautiful." Niall mumbled. "Oh my god, you're awake!" I jumped and grabbed the blanket off the bed. "It's okay. You don't have to hide from me. I've missed you so much, Nina." He smiled at me with his eyes closed. "Guys come here!!" Harry yelled from the front. I quickly changed my clothes and ran to the front with Niall. "What happened?" I asked pulling my jacket on. "Look." Harry handed me the scope. I hesitated but I looked into it. A huge wall was sitting right in front of us. Blood was stained all over it and zombie bodies were piled on the sides. "What is this place?" I whispered in awe. "We should check it out." Gemma shrugged. "Are you sure?" Pierre ran her nervous fingers through her hair. "I'll go." I zipped my shoes and put my hair into a ponytail. "I'm coming with you." Niall put on his jacket. We both climbed out and walked up to the wall. "Hello?!" I shouted waiting for an answer. I heard guns click, "What do you want?!" A husky voice yelled out. "To be civil! We just want to know why you have here! It's the first thing we've seen since this all started." Niall shouted. We waited for what seemed like forever the door to the wall opened. A scruffy man stood in the opening. "Who are you?" His voice was rough and mean. "Survivors." I answered him. "My friends and I. We were wondering if we could check the place out? This is the first safe place we've found." I gave him my best smile. "Nina is really good at the safety stuff. She has great skills." Niall tried to boost me up. The man nodded. "How many others?" He looked over our shoulders. "Just three more." I could tell that Harry and the others were staring at us. "Alright. Just for the night. But keep your weapons in the tank and keep the tank outside the wall." He instructed. Something about this place made me uneasy. I took Niall's hand and waved the others in. We left our weapons inside but I kept my knife tucked into my boot. I took a few sharp breaths as we walked through the door. Niall squeezed my hand. "You can stay in the house at the bottom of Eral Street. It's empty." We nodded and smiled at them. Once we entered the house we all ran to the food and bathroom. Claiming bedrooms. Niall and I took the one on the first floor near the entrance. "Check the house before you settle in. Lock all the doors and windows." I shouted so everyone can hear me. "My love, calm down. There isn't any danger in this house just as long as we're in it." He rubbed my shoulders and I rested my head on his. "I love you so much Niall. I'm so glad I found you again." I hugged him as tight as I could. "Don't break my healed bones now, love." I laughed with tears stinging my eyes. "Let's get some sleep." He took my hand and walked me to the bedroom. After he took a shower he crawled into it with me. "Maybe this will work, Nina. And maybe it won't. But right now this is what we have." He kissed my forehead and I laid my head on his chest. Falling asleep with him.
