I paced back and forth, biting my lip nervously. He hasn't called me all day and I'm getting worried. I've grown paranoid ever since my dad sent him that text. What if he gets into a tragic accident? What if my dad got to him? What if he's been seriously injured? I called him every hour he was out and he wouldn't answer me. Calm down, Dawn. He's gonna be okay.
I took a deep breath, collapsing onto the bed. As I was about to lie down, I heard a crash from downstairs. I jumped up, walking towards the door. Before I could reach for the doorknob, I heard footsteps coming up the stairs. Curiosity kicking in, I opened the door and walked out of the room. I walked into the hallway, walking towards the staircase.
When I got to the stairs, there was no one. I was about to walk down the stairs when a hand covered my mouth. My screams were muffled, and hand pulling my phone out of my pocket. The person snapped my phone in half right in front of me, making me scream again. I felt something hit the back of my head, resulting on me falling to thew floor, blacking out.
I looked down at my phone, noticing Dawn called me every hour. I was about to dial her number when my phone beeped, indicating my phone was out of battery. I internally groaned, putting my phone into my pocket.
Director: Alright that's a close for today. Justin, we'll ask you which girl you want to use in the video.
Me: Can I use my girlfriend?
Me: Because last time, she got jealous. Plus, I wrote this song for her. It would make sense to put my girlfriend in than another girl.
Director: Fine. Bring her next week.
I smiled. Finally I get to have my girlfriend in a music video. Well, except in Baby. I mean, yeah, we didn't date until afterwards, but still. As everyone packed up their equipment and left, I was there by myself. I sighed, picking up my burlap sack that contains the different outfits I had to use.
My eyes fluttered open, my vision still blurry. My head was still hurting. God, what was I hit with? My vision was no longer blurry as I noticed I was no longer in the hallway. I was in a room I've never been in before. Where am I? I sat up with my hand on my head, looking around the room. The windows were shut, old curtains covering them. I got up from off the floor, walking towards them. I opened the curtains, seeing nothing but darkness and trees. Lots and lots of trees. Okay, so I'm definitely no longer in Los Angeles. Then again...am I even in the state of California?
?: You're awake.
I spun around, leaning against the wall. I saw my dad standing in the doorway with a beer bottle in his hand.
Me: Where am I?
Dad: Not near Justin, that's for sure. I warned him.
My eyes widened.
Me: You kidnapped me?!
Dad: I had no other choice!
Me: How about, "Dawn, please come home"?
Dad: You would have stayed with that bastard anyways.
Me: Don't call him that! He's not like that!
Dad: I can call him whatever I want! Freedom of speech!
Me: I don't care if you have the right to speak your mind! You do not talk about my boyfriend like that!
Dad: I can-
Me: What happened to you?! I thought you were going to change. By the looks of it, you haven't changed a bit!
Dad: I never wanted you seeing him in the first place!
Me: You don't even know him! You never gave him the chance to prove to you how good he is for me!
I sighed, turning around to face the window.
Dad: I wanted him out of the picture to spend time with you. Y'know, to get to know my own daughter.
Me: You ruined that chance years ago.
I turned around to face him.
Me: I love him, dad. If you can't accept that, then get out of my life like you did thirteen years ago.
Dad: You don't know anything about love.
Me: Oh, like you and mom did.
Dad: Don't bring up your mother.
Me: I can bring her up if I-
He slammed the door behind him as he walked out, cutting me off. He locked the door, making me perplexed.
Me: Dad, what are you doing?
Dad: Locking you in here.
Dad: Because you're staying here for a month.
My eyes widened.
Me: A month?! You can't do that!
Dad: Yes I can. Since you won't listen to me at home, I might as well keep you in North Carolina for a month.
Me: You're crazy!
Dad: Not even close.
I heard his footsteps fading away. I ran towards the door, banging on it with my fists.
Me: Let me out of here!
Dad: Not until I can trust you!
I heard the door close downstairs, making me scream my lungs out.
Me: He's gonna find me, dad! He will! You just wait!
Tears fell from my eyes as I collapsed to the floor with my head in my hands.
Me: Find me, Justin.
I walked up to the payphone, a quarter in my hand. I put down the sack, taking the black phone in my hand. I put in my quarter and dialed her number, putting the phone to my ear. Ring. Please pick up. Ring. I sighed, the phone continuing to ring. After what felt like forever, I heard a voice on the other end, but it wasn't hers.
"I'm sorry. The number you are trying to reach has been disconnected."
I furrowed my eyebrows, hanging up. I dialed the house number and put it back to my ear. Pick up, Dawn. Come on. The phone kept ringing until...
"Hey, it's Justin. I'm either out working or doing something with my girl, so I'm unable o answer right now. Leave a message and I should get back to you. Bye."
I hung up. She didn't answer the house phone, either. Maybe she went home? I put in her house number and put the phone to my ear again. It rang...and rang...and rang. Eventually, I got tired of it and hung up. If she's not at my house or hers, then where is she?
Rocking back and forth on the floor, the door suddenly opened. I looked up, seeing a guy in all black. He walked into the room with a plate of a BLT sandwich and some chips. He set the plate down in front of my with a water bottle.
?: You're welcome. And the name's Jason if you need anything.
Jason: No problem.
He walked out of the room, closing the door behind him. I sighed, picking up the sandwich.
I ran up the driveway towards the house. Unlocking the door, I started getting nervous. What if she's not inside? What if she went home without telling me? No. She wouldn't go back. She told me. I sighed, opening the door. I saw pieces of furniture all over the room. Lamps were shattered along with vases and mirrors. Carefully, I walked into the kitchen. Pots and pans were all over the place, water dripping from the sink. I turned off the water. Either she had a fit or she was trying to make dinner. I walked back into the living room.
Me: Dawn, are you here?
No answer. I carefully walked towards the staircase, trudging up it.
I walked down the hall and towards my room. I stepped on something and looked down. Moving my foot, I saw her phone...split in half. I knelt down and took it in my hands. No wonder why it said it was disconnected. I held the broken iPhone in my hands as I walked towards our room. When I opened the door, there was stuff everywhere. Clothes all over the floor and her belongings on the floor as well. I looked over at the bed, noticing a piece of paper on the pillow. I walked towards the bed, sitting on it. I took the note off the pillow, reading it. Anger boiled inside of me as I crumpled up the note.
I warned you.
