I woke up to light shining in my face. I groaned, pulling a pillow over my head. Wait, what? I moved the pillow, my eyes scanning the room. How did I get here? Just then, my phone rang. I took it off the charger and looked at the screen. Justin's name appeared. I hit 'answer', putting the phone to my ear.
Me: Hey, Justin.
Justin: Hey. How'd you sleep?
Me: Pretty good. Did you bring me home last night?
Justin: Yeah. You fell asleep on the couch.
Justin: Anyways, I won't be seeing you for a while.
My heart dropped into my stomach. I sat up in my bed.
Justin: Scooter wants me to spend more time with Selena, since she's my girlfriend.
I could tell he was rolling his eyes.
Justin: As of now, he doesn't want me to see you until my next break, which is not until November.
Me: So...I won't see you for four months?
Me: It's not your fault, Justin. I mean, if it's something you gotta do, then you do it.
Justin: So you're not mad?
Justin: Okay, good. I wouldn't want you mad at me.
Me: Why would I be mad? Your job's your job.
Justin: I'll talk to you?
Me: Depends on Scooter. That is, if he'll let you.
Justin: True. Bye.
I hung up, tossing my phone onto my bed.
It hurt me to tell her that. Believe me, I didn't want to. But if I didn't, she'd end up hurt and that'd make me feel worse.
I put my phone down, sighing.
Selena: Let's go to the mall.
Me: I don't want to.
I got up from my seat and walked towards the front door of her house. Once I got into the living room, I felt a hand wrap around my wrist. I spun around, Selena's hand hitting my cheek. I felt a stinging sensation on my cheek. I pulled away, putting my hand over where she hit me. I felt warm liquid oozing from my cheek. Blood. I looked at her.
Me: What the hell, Selena?!
She smirked and walked off. What the hell is her problem?
I sat down at the table.
Mom: Hey, Dawn. How'd you sleep?
Me: Okay, I guess.
She turned around, looking at me.
Mom: It's Justin, isn't it?
Mom: What's wrong now?
Me: Scooter's not letting him see me for four months.
Her eyes went wide.
Mom: What?! Why?!
Me: He wants him to spend more time with his girlfriend.
I rolled my eyes.
Mom: So...I wanted to ask you about school this year.
Me: What about it?
Mom: Do you want to be homeschooled this year?
Me: Mom, it's my senior year.
Mom: I know.
Me: Why would you ask me about that?
Mom: Remember last year?
Me: All of those kids are gone. They went to college or on with their lives.
Mom: Still. It could happen again. This time with Justin.
Me: If Justin and I dated, it's possible kids would hate me. Come on, he's Justin Bieber, for crying out loud. Plus, it's not like Justin and I would date. That'd never happen.
I looked down, my heart aching at what I said.
Mom: You like him, don't you?
I lifted my head up.
Mom: Do you like him?
Me: Honestly, I think I'm in love with him.
I regret telling Justin not to see her. I feel guilty because I can see it in his eyes how he really feels about her. When he was recording Mistletoe yesterday, he looked at her, smiling. It was as if he was happy to have her there. But I had to tell him not to see her. Otherwise, he wouldn't get his work done. I can't have that, especially since he's dating Selena. I know he can't stand her, but he can't be seen with Dawn. Who knows what could happen to his reputation?
Me: What is wrong with you, Selena?
Selena: No, what is wrong with you?
Me: What is wrong with me, huh?
Selena: You seeing her is what's wrong.
Me: Ugh, why do you hate her?
Selena: She's using you, Justin.
I rolled my eyes.
Me: You really think she's using me?
Selena: I know she is.
Me: You don't even know her! You can't start making up lies about someone you don't know.
Selena: I can do whatever the hell I want. And why are you even defending her? She's a slut.
Me: NO SHE'S NOT! DON'T YOU DARE SAY THAT ABOUT HER!
Selena: Why do you care about her so damn much?
Me: You wanna know why I care about her, Selena?!
Selena: Please give me an answer.
Me: BECAUSE I'M IN LOVE WITH HER!
Her face softened. Mine did, too, when I realized what I just said.
Selena: Y-you w-what?
I shook my head and walked past her. I ran down the stairs and out the front door. I can't believe I just said that to my own girlfriend.
